"The food is fantastic. make sure you have an empty stomach because you will fill up rather quickly. I took my roomate for her birthday. They even added her name to the menu. She was very impressed. Nice touch!"

"I really enjoyed the service, which was very kind, friendly, and perfectly attentive.
The appetizers were excellent, especially the meat pies. Including the buttermilk sauce was a nice, interesting touch.
The one drawback was the crab cakes entree, which was rather ordinary in flavor. The creamed corn sauce and crab lumps were good, but I wish restaurants would be bold and present a crab cake that was infused with flavor instead of relying on a dash of lemon or an accompanying sauce."

"Had a fantastic experience with a group of 9 for Eye Opener Brunch. At the end of the meal, our only question wasn't when are we doing this again, but when are we not/can we just have standing reservation? Our server was EXCELLENT, she was spot on for food recommendations, knowledgability about the dishes, and kept the drinks coming."

"Acadiana was an absolute dream. The food is just amazing. It is the perfect blend of southern charm and high quality. I had the veal and grits dinner. The veal was so tender and perfectly cooked that I did not need a knife to eat it. I also highly recommend Acadiana as a brunch option. They have a great diversity of foods on the menu, and their blood orange mimosas are perfection in a glass."

"Our waiter almost ruined the experience. He was incredibly rude and arrogant-- I felt hurried to make a decision and bad that we weren't ordering any alcohol to accompany our meal. If weren't for the fact that we were on a double date, then we would have requested a waiter right there. Another than him, the food turned out to be excellend... especailly loved collard greens and red beans & rice."

"Food was overly pretentious to be Cajun food. It seemed to be pretending. The restaurant however was gorgeous and overall it was an okay experience. I however, will not be going back simply because of the service. We waited 30 minutes for the server to even take our drink order (after of course asking us if we wanted wine and walking away promptly after we said we didn't). Then, we finally got to order our drinks and meal. 25 minutes later, after our appetizer, still no drinks. It was only after we got the attention of the manager did things improve. At the end of the day, 2 free drinks and 1 free appetizer later, we left full and content, but not really worth the hype."

"I've heard a lot of positive reviews about Acadiana and decided to take my wife for her birthday. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The staff was great, but the setting wasn't very intimate. There were some booths along the window but the actual tables were about four inches apart. It wasn't extremely busy yet they still sat people side by side. The food wasn't very generous considering the price. My $33 NY Strip was literally 1" wide 4" long. The barbecue shrimp was not exactly what we were expecting. Again, the wait staff was great, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone else. It's one of those places where most of the attention goes to the presentation of the food and not much else."

"We really enjoyed our recent meal at Acadiana. The service was about the best we've had lately on our dining out nights: attentive but not rushed, amicable without being too familiar, and the server was very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. The food was excellent. I was a little concerned that the southern bent to the menu might mean a very heavy meal but such was not the case; both entrees were healthy as well as delicious. the ambience was good - noise level not too high, yet there were several groups in the restaurant. We would definitely go back, especially since Acadiana is on our "flight path" to the Kennedy Center from suburban MD. Final note: try the sazerac cocktail - fabulous!!"

"This is yet another visit of mine to Acadiana and the experience was, yet again, wonderful. From the Trio of Pies for the appetizer -- three different types of Cajun fillings in small pastry pies -- to the subtly spicey gumbo -- to the seafood special -- to the wonderful chocolate decadent robert cake -- the cuisine is fantastic. The staff, in my experience, is very attentive and enjoyable for chit-chat. The site was full, very busy, and somewhat noisy, but you can't blame people for loving this place!"

"The amnbiance was impaired when a diner at a neighboring table kept bumping his chair into my companion's until we shifted our table a few inches away from his. That was the only flaw in a delicious and delightful evening. "This is the first time I've ever rsponded to a review but I found the restaurant service, food and ambience to be outstanding. "Celebrating family birthdays. Requested booth,gave us a table w/very little room between us & the other diners. I asked if they had gotten my request,& they quickly & happily gave us a booth. Pleased with the food, but were a bit disappointed b/c the descriptions didn't quite give an indication of the true menu item. Two examples: Fried Green Tomatoes was really a shrimp dish served on the tomatoes. Also,to us, the hush puppies were a bit like a corn fritter vice a hush puppy. Both were very good, but not what we expected when we ordered. The service was good. Servers were pleasant, but we did ask for a few things & waited some time before getting, and in one case we never rec'd. Would def go again & recommend to foodies."

"We went to Acadiana for my birthday and had a fabulous time! The food was very delicious with some interesting selections and flavors we're not accustomed to in our home town (Tucson, Arizona). Service was very good, attentive to detail. What a surprise for us when we saw our menus had "Happy Birthday Terri!!!" imprinted across the top - I have never seen this done before in any restaurant; then they gave us back our menus, rolled up and tied with pretty ribbons! And they so generously provided a complimentary dessert that I thoroughly enjoyed. Now how special is all this, and from a restaurant we've never been to before. We will surely come back to Acadiana when we visit DC again."

"Started off bad; the seating host gave me a bad table. I was literally looking at post. I said something to the wait staff and was moved to another table. Gosh how I HATE getting a bad table and this happens to single female diners more than you'd like to imagine! Add to that the overt southern perspective of the menu and, WOW does that send an overt message!!
The food was outstanding; I am a Cajun from Louisiana and the BBQ shrimp reminded me of many summers sitting at my families summer house in Calcasieu parish! "On previous occasions, the food at Acadiana has been unbelievably good, but this trip was a little bit disappointing. My jumbo crab cakes were overwhelmed by the bacon accent, and the rockfish special my husband got was just so-so. However, the charbroiled oyster appetizer was amazing, and the Sazerac (from the specialty cocktail menu) was also very good. The ambiance is very nice, and the service is consistently good here. I just wish the food was as consistent!"

"This was the best meal I have had in DC. We were treated to the Valentine's Day prix fixe menu which was loaded with interesting dishes. We tried Fried Green Tomatoes and Pork Boudin Balls as appetizers, then had Snapper Almandine and Jumbo Crab Cakes for our entree--all of it was excellent. Moreover the food came in perfect portions and the timing between courses was just right. Our waiter, Steven, provided superb service. All in all this was an excellent meal. Having lived in New Orleans before I can attest that the food at Acadiana truly captures the essence of Louisiana cuisine. Again, this was the best meal I've had anywhere in the DC area and I will definitely be back!"

"I visited Acadiana on Valentine's Day and there was a special prix-fixe menu, therefore the choices were limited. We started out with a wonderful potato fingerling which was followed by our appetizer choices. I had the sweet corn and crab soup, which was out of this world. My date had the gumbo which he said was the best he's ever had. Our entrees came next. To be honest with you, I don't remember what entrees we had, which says a lot about how memorable they were. I do remember it being tasty but not out of this world. The desert (a made to order chocolate cake) was heaven on a plate. It came out warm and chewy. The wine list was extensive and offered plenty of great choices. I would definitely try this restaurant again."

"Their Mardi Gras 3-course brunch is a great deal, and comes with true New Orleans flavors that you would find at a brunch down in the Big Easy. The charbroiled oysters appetizer was delicious. I ordered the french toast as an entree and it was the perfect size. Sadly they were out of beignets and bread pudding by the time we got to dessert. Try not to go at the very tail end of brunch. "My wife is a big fan of "Southern Food" so when I saw fried green tomatoes and collard greens on the menu I just new Acadiana was the spot for her birthday dinner. I had booked our reservation using OpenTable.com (new to me) and mentioned in the comments section that this was her birthday dinner. As soon as we were seated, we were presented the menus and low and behold, printed right across the top of the menu was "Happy 31st Birthday!!!" - it took my wife about 5 seconds to notice it as she immediately began scanning all the appetizer options - but once she did a huge smile appeared on her face.

Service was great... Food was even better! Drink prices were a little high in my opinion. We will definitely be heading back to Acadiana!!!"

"Acadiana has always been one of my favorite places for lunch, but this was my first dinner there. We arrived quite early for a pre-theater reservation; the staff was more than happy to move up our seating. After a quite pleasant drink at the bar, we were seated and served. With the exception of somewhat stale biscuits served before the appetizer, everything we ordered was absolutely first rate - especially the barbecued shrimp! The service was attentive but not overbearing, and we enjoyed a leisurely dinner with time (and quiet) for good conversation. We'll return often!"

"My wife is from New Orleans, and she misses that area. We made a special trip down to D.C. for Valentine's Day at Acadiana. The menu looked authentic, and we were both very excited. While we waited to be seated, we got a drink at the bar. I asked for a brandy milk punch, a popular New Orleans drink. The bartender looked at me confused and didn't know what that was. I found this hard to believe, especially since I think it's on the brunch menu. When we were seated, we were greeted to wonderful biscuits served with pepper jelly and cream cheese. Right on! We ordered the turtle soup, and I was sorely disappointed...way too much celery, and almost tasted like a glorified vegetable soup. The boudin was so-so. It tasted fine, but not authentic."

My foodie co-worker and I had the (2) charbroiled oysters (yum!!!!!) and BLT salads (fresh lettuces with lovely thick bacon crumbles and blue cheese dressing) which were excellent -- as usual. My finicky eating co-worker was delighted with her blackened fish (sorry can't remember which one) paired with fresh collards. She had even dined at Acadiana for lunch on the same day and enjoyed the trademark blackened Tilapia. Our fun evening was topped off by a couple of bottles of crisp Vermentino."

"I planned a special birthday dinner for my boyfriend, a picky Argentino who travels extensively and likes to make fun of American cuisine. I wanted to show him a thing or two, so I chose Arcadiana. It was an absolutely perfect place. Very elegant, without being stuffy or pretentious. The food was phenomenal, and the service was excellent. Very professional staff, with good grasp of the menu. The duck is absolutely fantastic, and the bread pudding is to die for. I have been to New Orleans many times, and grew up in the South - I was very impressed with the elegant Southern dining experience in DC. Great for special occasions."

"Simply outstanding food. I have been to many Cajun restaurants; this is the best. Period. It is due to the spices jumping around on your tongue as you eat. I had turtle soup and shrimp with grits. (It is not like shrimp and grits you have had anywhere else.) I would order the same next time. Of course,my colleagues had jambalaya and tilapia about which they felt equally passionate. "Dined here for the first time but wanted to try it since I have always had positive dining experiences at Jeff Tunks' other restaurants. I love southern cuisine and found the dishes to be diverse and creative takes on some traditional southern dishes. The jumbo and shrimp and grits were outstanding as was the duck. The various fish dishes were also nicely prepared. The wine list has some great wines at very reasonable prices. I dined with a party of seven and the waiter was very attentive and accomodating to our varied requests such as requesting separate checks and splitting a bottle of wine across multiple tabs. I read about the Sunday brunch and look forward to checking it out."

"To date, I have dined here twice. Once on a date a few years ago and the other recently for my fiance's birthday. I let them know in advance that it was for a birthday and they printed menus with her name on it, added a real personal touch. "The food was outstanding. Two of us shared a bunch of appetizers and a duck dish for an entree. I've never had a duck that was this moist and not fatty at all at a restaurant before. Gave "fair" for service only because of our table's specific waiter, who acted like he was too busy to serve us (despite the restaurant being half-empty and a ton of helping stuff) and the rest of the stuff seemed really nice."

"Underwhelming and overpriced. The idea that a restaurant experience should start when you walk in the door was lost here as we were ignored for about five minutes before anyone bothered to say hello or even acknowledge us with so much as an "I'll be right with you" from either of the two maitres de standing there. Our server was pleasant enough but when we told her we were attending an event her response wasn't "no problem. I'll let the kitchen know." It was more of a willingness to deal with the inconvenience we were causing. The food - crabcakes and flounder - was cooked fine but not memorable. And our total meal, just over $100. Of course there was also no "goodbye. I hope you enjoyed your meal" as we left."

"I come from south Louisiana and have a personal rule to not eat anything away from home labled Cajun. Acadiana, despite is name, does not do this. Instead, they've taken knownlege of real south Louisiana cooking. This is the first time I've seen courtbuillion (back home pronounced cube-i-on) since home. "Service was outstanding from the moment we stepped into the door. I really enjoyed the goldfish bowl of Anchor Steam I had after a very long day at work. "Brunch Menu

I don't typically claim to be much for mimosas, but the addition of the blood orange puree was divine. I would never have ordered it but as a complimentary drink with the brunch, I very much enjoyed it.

The turtle soup was edible but tasted like they stopped by Giant and picked up some Campbell's soup. It didn't seem like much more effort went into it than a bouillon cube with some chopped vegetables and very tiny pieces of meat.

As a Creole-motiffed establishment, the jambalaya was mediocre. I have had jambalaya in New Orleans and this was not it. Again, edible, but not worth the sticker price.

Now, the beignets were perfect! The coffee cream anglaise was heavenly. I would return just for these!"

"As a vegetarian, the chef made accomodations and prepared a great veggie plate with items from the appetizer and sides menu which I greatly appreciated. I ordered the roasted romaine, which arrived quickly; however, the main courses took a little longer than I has expected. My dining companion and I were able to both munch on the appetizer and complete it, have it cleared, with plenty of time to chat before the main course arrived. I would have liked a little less time between the appetizer and the main course. We both ordered the bread pudding for dessert which was more a custard than the traditional bread, that I would prefer. Though it was tasty, I was a bit disappointed with the custard. Overall, the food was yummy."

"I heard mixed reviews about Acadiana before eating there. It was phenomenal! Everything from the oysters to the shrimp to the creme brulee, was fantastic! I was literally licking the sauce off the oyster shell :) It just might be one of my top favorite restaurants in the country. Oh and EXCELLENT service. We had two people unexpectedly drop in and out, which is normally annoying in nice restaurants, but the waiter was so sweet. He had no problem pulling up an extra seat for them and seperating our bills."

"The food was so good there is no reason to comment - if you love great food, try this restaurant. If you like average or better service, don't go here. I can't even call the service spotty, because there was no upside. Our waitress disappeared 20 minutes at a time. The drinks ordered with appetizers were served with dinner. We gave up on trying to order wine (this from a group that normally orders two bottles with dinner). We did get coffee with dessert, and while waiting another 20 minutes to get our bill, someone other than our waitress came and refilled our cups. We eat out at nice restaurants 20-30 times a year. This is the worst service I have ever encountered. Need to hire a professional service manager and retrain the staff."

"A friend and I had passed this restaurant several months prior and decided to go back and give it a shot - glad we did! It was excellent and it absolutely deserved it's place on the top 100 restaurants in DC list from Washingtonian magazine. In fact, I'd wager it's one of the top 10 when you factor in both the quality and uniqueness of some of the menu items. This isn't a highly recommend, this is a if you live in the area and haven't eaten here you clearly don't appreciate good food."

"Great place for enjoyable food close to the Convention Center. We were finished with our volunteer work at the NBC Health Fair earlier than expected but the Acadiana staff found us a table despite that our reservation was an hour later. Our wait person was superb - friendly and attentive but not overbearing. She gave recommendation when asked that were spot on.
We were seated toward the back adjacent to a wait station and across from a wine cooler. It provided a quiet oasis away from the bar area which was very noisy and raucous with an energetic crowd watching the playoffs.
We enjoyed some tasty cocktails and a good rose to go with dinner. The grillade of veal was excellent, the signature prawns were too salty and overcooked."

"We went here for Restaurant week. It was a group of six. We tried various things on the menu including the turtle soup, gumbo, trio of deviled eggs, corn and crab soup, flounder, duck, barbecue shrimp, bread pudding, creme brulee, and chocolate cake. Overall, we thought the food was good. We agreed that we would not pay regular price for the food but it was a nice place to go to for restaurant week. The gumbo could have used some additional seasoning. The duck was very tender but it could have used some additional seasoning as well. The shrimp had a distinct flavor but I don't think I would get it again. It was missing something but I can't figure out what it was. The desserts were average. The service was fantastic and very helpful."

"My dining experience was excellent. I ordered from the "Restaurant Week" menu and was pleased with the selections. Although I reviewed the menu on-line our waiter Tor explanations and recommendations were on point. I ordered the smoked chicken & andouille sausage gumbo (appetizer) and grouper "court-bouillon" (entree). The only thing I was not impressed with was the bread pudding (dessert). I was thinking about the Pontchartrain Punch (drink) the next day, this I recommend.

The service was great. The food was served hot and with little waiting time."

"Acadiana was on a mission and they executed superbly. The service was impeccable, even during Restaurant Week. Many restaurants falter during RW with a limited menu, poor service, or subpar food. Acadiana scored perfectly on all items. We had a party of 5 and everyone's food was perfect. Each course was more salivating than the next. The waiters and staff quickly cleared plates, brought new courses, and address requests. They were so efficient, it was scary good. I cant wait to go back. I have told everyone to go since eating there. Get the Duck or the Steak."

"This restaurant had me hooked at the hot buttermilk biscuits with the spicy honey marmalade. OMG so delish. The Brunch menu had great variety. My starter was the fried green tomatoes with Zatarins Shrimp, my entree was the blackend talapia with greens and corn pudding. Corn pudding was way to mushy but the fish and greens more than made up for it. The portions were quite generous. Had the fried beignets for dessert. Very close to the way that Cafe du Monde makes them in Louisiana. This restaurant is a must try if you are heading to downtown DC."

"This was our second visit to the restaurant within a week. The first week they sat us in a booth - we were walk-in - no reservations. On our return visit we were taken to a table in the middle of the room with reservations. When we asked for a booth they informed us that they had a full house. There must have been 6 booths available. This did not sit well with me nor my date. The other issue on our second visit was that is was during the NFL play-offs and the bar noise over flowed into the dining area."

"Strong, interesting cocktails and best selection of Abita in town. Boudin balls with spicy mustard and gumbo apps were great, only exceeded by the veal with jalepeno grits entree. BBQ shrimp were well seasoned. Desserts - chocolate cake and bread pudding - were disappointing, but the chocolate-marshmallow bites made up for it. "I selected Acadiana as one of my RW destinations because I had heard great things about it from friends who had went for RW in seasons past. In particular, I was told Acadiana offers a nice selection of apps and desserts, as well as their full entree menu for RW, which is indeed true.
Entering the restaurant, I wasn't overly impressed with the ambiance, it seemed a little generic to me. Nevertheless, the food more than made up for any of the restaurants shortcomings. My appetizer, a smoked chicken gumbo, was above average, but my entree and dessert were superb (veal accompanied by cheese grits and a toasted almond creme brulee, respectively). The service, which can be noticeably worse at other restaurants during RW, also was good."

"Biscuits were good but not served warm. Boudin balls were excellent! The pepper jelly was a nice touch. Seafood gumbo was tasty but the seafood quality was lacking. You could tell the seafood had been in the pot for awhile and the dish really suffered for it. The scallops with risotto was a much different experience! Quite possibly the best scallops I have ever eaten! LOVED the risotto and the cane syrup vinegarette rocked! The accompanying pork belly should have been sliced thin and fried into cracklins. Bread pudding left alot to be desired. Good but not great.

Service, once we got it, was great.

I recommend Acadiana but perhaps at an off-peak time."

"My girlfriend and I chose Acadiana to celebrate our fourth anniversary. The vibrant bar scene provided plenty of entertainment, not to mention a delicious Sazerac and fruity frozen rum drink called the Lousiana Purchase! Once seated, we chose a nice bottle of reasonably priced Zinfandel. We enjoyed the cheese biscuits, an artfully crafted trio of deviled eggs, and Andouille sausage and chicken gumbo, which was excellent. I loved the blackened Redfish Oscar with asparagus, tiny home fries, and crab meat. The ingredients complimented one another perfectly in taste and texture. Rich bread pudding and mango creme brulee followed, with a complimentary cookie plate! Gracious and attentive service by Howard!! All around great time!"

"It was restaurant week so we went for lunch. I had turtle soup for the first time, it was great! My seafood salad, was also great. Very ample amount of shrimp, crawfish and crabmeat. Seasoned perfectly. That was the best salad i've ever eaten. The bread pudding was good too. Unfortunately, my friend's food was just average. A smoky gumbo, and then the bbq shrimp po'boy was more like a shrimp bbq stew stuffed into a cylinder shaped french roll...I woulda sent it back and got a regular New Orleans po'boy. The food was good, but definitely outside of my dining out price range, it'd have to be a special occasion, but I'd recommend going."

"My husband and I visited Acadiana during 2010 Restaurant Week because they allow you to make your selections from their regular menu and not a prix fixe menu. Our server was very polite and very knowledgable about the menu selections. For appetizers, we chose the deviled eggs trio, Louisiana gumbo, and the shrimp & corn chowder. The latter two were "nothing to write home about," but the shrimp & corn chowder was excellent! For entrees, we chose the NY strip and Louisiana gumbo which was the same as the appetizer. The NY strip was the better selection. For dessert, we had the buttermilk chocolate cake, but it was dry. The server suggested the bread pudding, and it was delicious! My husband and I plan to visit Acadiana again soon"
