"This has been the most wonderful restaurant for overall dining experience. The service, food and ambiance were all of the highest quality. The lovely piano playing, or at Christmas the Carolers, other times a Barbershop quartet strolling through. Sad to say they are now closed forever. If you never had the chance to eat there, you missed a wonderful and classy experience. Oh and did I forget to mention the sunflower or beet bread, I have tears in my eyees."

"Thank you for allowing me to give you my comments. I've always like Mr. Stox. Why, my friend and I have tremendously enjoyed Mr. Stox over the years. We are both sad that you are closing down. This was the place we would go to, to have a quite and delicious dinner.
Our last visit was March 9. We had a wonderful time, but, I was a little bit disappointed aftter ordering the scallops with the pasta (sorry, I don't remember the name of the dish). It was not tasty, it had a very bland taste. But, nevertheless we had a good time and the rest of the food was good.

"Unfortunately, everyone seemed to want to get into Mr. Stox this last week before it closes forever. That's why my daughter and I chose it to celebrate our birthdays with our family. While the food was still excellent (except the desserts, which were nice but not GREAT), the place was so crowded and noisy, the valets overworked and slow (and self-park was non-existent), the wait staff overwhelmed and therefore slower and not as attentive as in the past, and the wine list so depleted, that what was meant to be a special dinner was not as special as hoped. What we used to value at Mr. Stox was the feeling of being taken care of in a very attentive way, from the balloons and photo for a special occasion (not this time!), to the relaxed ambi"

"Unfortunately this well-known gem of a restaurant is closing because of land-use issues in the city and the decision of the owners to retire. We will miss this restaurant terribly. There are very few choices around that come close to its quality and style of food. Thank you, Mr. Stox, for more than 30 years of setting a higher standard. I would give everybody above higher marks, except that it was very crowded because everyone knows this restaurant is closing and everybody wants to have a final experience before it is no more. So we waited a long time to be seated. The server did her very best to keep up with the pace of customer demand."

It will be missed especially as a "special occasion" destination for they have always treated you like royality on birthdays and anniversaries. I will especial miss their Beet Fennel bread which not only looks wonderful on a Christmas dinner table(a beautiful shade of red) but tastes absolutely marvelous. "This is a beautiful restaurant with very excellent and expedient staff. You do not feel crowded or stuffed into your seats as the atmosphere is open and comfortable. The piano player adds a very romantic and soothing feeling. Their homemade read is still a highlight of the evening. It is so sad that this restaurant is closing for good and being torn down. We need good restaurants like this to remind us that "everything is right with the world". Very few places offer so much in one location."

"We had a great time! The restaurant was packed as they are closing for good on March 15th (I believe they have been open for over 45 years!). We had two waitresses that worked together to serve us. They have both been working there for over 17 years and are best friends. They had an old school cocky (but fun) attitude and we had a great time with them. The food was amazing! It's very sad to see this restaurant go. Very fond memories of having my CSUF College Graduation dinner in one of their private rooms and selling flowers there as a flower girl while I was putting myself through school. It really is a tragedy that redevelopment is forcing them to shut down :("

"Fabulous food as always. The service fell a little short since we had to wait about 15 minutes for a wine list But that was the only mistep for the night. The rest was impeccable as usual. "We loved everything about this neighborhood gem. We just wish we had found out about this restaurant sooner. They will be closing their doors for good on March 15, 2013 to make way for an apartment housing development. They will be missed."

"I am very sorry to have to write a review for a wonderful restaurant that will be closing March 15, 2013. My husband and I were there for Valentines Day and so many people around us were buzzing about that fact that they were closing. My husband and I have been going there since they first opened sometime in the early 60's. He took me there on our first date and each year on the anniversary of our first date, we have gone every year since. To us, there was no other restaurant than Stox. We hope some restauranteur will buy it and reopen it again as Mr. Stox and be able to keep the quality of food, special feeling you get when you are eating there and the professionalism of all who work there.
