l'escale, which means "port of call", is a restaurant seemingly lifted from glorious Provence and brought back to Earth on the waterfront of Greenwich, CT. l'escale serves an inventive Provencal menu in an atmosphere that captures the warm sun, sea breezes & evocative scents of Southern France.
"I drive frequently between Boston and NY. I always stop at this wonderful restaurant. A classy little place in a classy town!!"

"Went on a beautiful Sunday in may so it was really a perfect choice. The menu is very diverse -you can order brunch food or lunch food enjoying a nice glass of French wine and a very tasty chopped salad (although only 3 grilled shrimp were added)was for me a perfect lunch! Service is very attentive and the spot on the harbor most pleasant"

"L'escale is located in the upscale Delamar hotel on the Long Island inlet that intrudes on greenwich , Ct.'s shoreline. It is one of the few outdoor dining spots available in Greenwich and the only one on the shoreline. Food quality is very good as is service. The restaurant is very nicely appointed as is the bar area and the outdoor deck overlooking the Greenwich Harbor is a special treat in the warm weather months. Food is expensive, but you're also paying for the location and scenery. It is one of the few hotspots which is not overwhelmingly noisy. Makes for a great ambience overall."

"What a fabulous place! Wonderful food, ambience, and service. Celebrated my winning of the Kentucky Derby after watching the race and what a marvelous time we had. Service was very personal as we had specific requests which the matre'd and the hostess did their best to accomodate. Overall a place to come to feel as if you have been whisked away to the Cote d'Azure."

"The seaside part was not as we expected, a little disappointed. The coffee has been served before the desert. The desert of my husband was brought 10 minutes before mine. It was too expensive for the quality of service and the food served. It was the first time we went there with the terrasse opened. Maybe it is why...."

"L'Escale offers very refined dining without feeling stuffy. A beautiful location on the water, with lovely, but difficult to get, tables outdoors overlooking Greenwich Harbor. The dining room is beautiful, and when the sun is setting in the spring and summer, the light gives the room a soothing glow. Most men are wearing jackets, but you will see all levels of chic casual here. The menu is great, fish is very well prepared. The restaurant has its own pastry chef, and the deserts were over the moon. The service is not up to the level of the best Manhattan restaurants, but very good and friendly. Very large, eclectic wine list. More European than California in its orientation. The more we dine at L'Escale, the more we like it."

"We have been eating there for years and the food the last 3 times is loaded with salt and inedible. The waitress was awful and did nothing right. I feel badly because we were taking 2 other couples for dinner there and they will not return either."

"the atmosphere is nice, but accepting groups of 18 people can turn the place into "high decibels". Prices are on the premium side of the scale, while service is uneven at the best. Where was the Maitre d"D?"

"This spot on the water in Greenwich CT had surprisingly good food, nice ambience, good service and a very extensive and reasonably-priced wine list. The bar was lively and the drink of the house was delicious. In the summer, outdoor dining on the water looks very enticing."

"I've been enjoying dinners at L'Escale for 4 years. A friend told me I had to give it a try for brunch and so glad I did. It's wonderful! Fabulous service as always, 2 from my party of 5 had eggs Benedict, delicious! 2 from our party were children and they were offered a free buffet... Fries, chicken fingers, fruit... The entire experience was perfect! We'll be back at least 1 a month."

"Even though the main dining room was closed for a private party on a Saturday night, they made up the lounge area as nice as the dining room usually is, and the food and service continued to be first rate. The salmon tartar appetizer was especially good."

"The fireplace is pretty and the seating is good (tables are close together, but not too bad). The food is just ok. If you can make it to NYC for French food, do head into the City it is worth it. An American fare pretending to be upscale, but really just average."

"My boyfriend and I went here for Valentines Day and it was truly wonderful! We are not the type for a cheesy holiday dinner but the restaurant was perfectly romantic. The seating arrangements felt like a private dinner and the staff was really great. Nothing was rushed and we were able to enjoy ourselves. Top notch!"

"You get what you came for with this place, if you knew anything about it before going in. It's quite upscale, which means it is a little too pricey for what you're getting, but not by much, and it is Greenwich after all. I went with my girlfriend the day after Valentine's Day (a Friday) and a full dining area was still nice and quiet. Like I said you get what you came for, every single table was couples, except for two tables which had two couples. The decor was excellent (fireplace and candles and whatnot), the service was great for us, and I was very satisfied with a romantic Valentine's Day dinner."

"L'Escale was a beautiful restaurant with exquisite food. The ambiance was romantic and surreal; reminded me of a winter castle of sorts. The staff is professional and my only recommendation is that the Bar section of the restaurant is completely underutilized. It definitely caters to an older crowd but the space and décor could attract so much more but the music played is definitely on the dull decrepit side . I believe they can create a vibe that would attract not just the older crowd but definitely the younger crowd. I am in my late 20s and after eating dinner I wanted to stop by the for cocktails around 10:00pm on a Saturday but it was completely empty (the opposite of the dinning room area which was vibrant)."

"A memorable dining experience that will leave your heart warm and your palate flat. The food was only good and at prices that commanded more attention to detail. Chicken Paillard was a great lunch but somewhat underseasoned and crying out for moisture. The Cavatelli was a little overcooked and the sauce over salted. They get great produce so, if you get the things they dont mess with you'll be pleased like Oysters, Cheese plate, and the wine."
