"My husband and I were surprised to see B. Smith in her restaurant hanging out at the bar socializing with patrons. She was so gracious and took time to take pictures with us. As a special touch, her husband came by our table later to greet us and thanked us for choosing their restaurant. The restaurant was nicely decorated, the service great and the food was delicious."

"we have eaten at B. Smith's many times. In this instance the restaurant was not mobbed for pre-theater yet the service was horrible & the food took forever to get to us. The waiter was in the corner chatting & we had to complain to get our service on anything. We ordered our main course at 610 but it was not delivered to us until 710-& we told the waiter we had a show to walk to & needed prompt service. The food was alos disappointing except for the chicken & waffle dish. Again, we have been there many times before & do not plan on going again."

"B Smith's was not crowded. We had a reservation for 7 at 10pm. We were seated right away. The service was quick and the food was good! Everything was delicious! We are already planning another girls night out there!"

"My latest trip to B. Smith's came after seeing Motown The Musical. I was celebrating my birthday with my wife, my cousin and her fiance'. The show was great and the meal was just as memorable. It's not too often that you remember eating a salad, but the Spinach Salad with Bacon was one I will definitely remember for a long time. I went with the salmon that I remembered from a previous trip and my wife had the chicken and waffles. After she gave me a bite from her plate, I will be having the chicken and waffles next time (not that there is anything wrong with the salmon). The best part of this particular visit had to be bread pudding. OMG. As my cousin and I say, it tastes like (I want) more. We will be back. Always a good time."

"I enjoyed B Smith Restaurant. I had a dinner engagement and I was running late. Once I got to the restaurant, they accommodated me and my dinner guest immediately. they gave us a table and served us right away. we didn't have to wait a long time for the waiter which was really good. Food is always excellent and the service is great."

"We arrived to an empty restaurant after a show. Waiter was nice enough but told us of at least two dishes that weren't available on the menu. Basically they were out of a couple dishes for the night. Started off on a bad note. We went here because we wanted a change from all the delicious Italian food we had been eating in NYC. We were very disappointed with the food. It was decent but nothing special. There are way too many other excellent restaurants in NYC to go here. Won't be back."

"This is a restaurant I used to enjoy many years ago when I lived in NY. I was so looking forward to reuniting with B. Smith's, but I have to say I was really disappointed with every aspect of my experience. First, I should have known better because when I got there, the entire main floor of the restaurant was filled with a tour group. Thus, we were seated in the corner of the balcony looking over shabby storage areas. Then, our waiter didn't even get our drinks right nor did he know much about the menu. Our food took over 30 minutes to arrive and the quality of the food was diner quality at best. My fried chicken was burned and had 4 small pieces. My wife's pasta was overcooked and bland. I'll never go back again."

"My friend and I had a girls night out by seeing a Broadway play and eating dinner. We selected to eat at B.Smith's. Reservations were made for 6:30pm. We arrived on time and was seated immediately. Our server was young, professional but a bit slow. She took our order which was both from the Prix fixed menu. I had the fried chicken and waffle. Absolutely delicious. The chicken was so moist and seasoned. My friend had the crispy salmon which she enjoyed as well. The food was a bit slow coming out which in turn didn't allow us time to have our dessert there. Overall great time and would revisit."

"This restaurant for me was great, we were seated on time. The empoyees were extremely friendly. We even had the pleasure of meeting the owner and her husband, who were so down to earth and pleasant. My friends and I travel from Connecticut on my birthday every year just to hang out at this restaurant and have not been let down. I have been doing this for the past 5 years on 05/24/ and it was so nice to meet the owner and take photos on my 49 birthday."

"I've always preferred the DC B Smith restaurant, but on my third visit to the Manhattan venue, I must say that it was a great experience. The three of us enjoyed our meals; we didn't experience the snootiness that we've noted there on past occasions. We were especially thrilled to have B. Smith drop by our table for a brief visit. I was also happy that we were able to get a reservation with plenty of time to make it to the theater."

"We have enjoyed B Smith's in Union Station, but were disappointed with our experience at her Restaurant Row place in NYC. The ambience was great; the service was very good; the restaurant was a little noisy, but not so bad. The food is what fell short. We had fried green tomatoes: they were too thick, too heavily breaded and just not as good as what we had had in DC. My wife and I had the prixe fix meal on Monday night, May 20th. Our grown son had the fried chicken and thought it was good. However, here fish dish was just so so; the greens on the dish were not very tasty. I had the beef bourginion, which was tasty, but with the mashed potatoes, it was a heavier dish than I enjoy. All in all, very disappointing."

"We thought we would try this for a before the theatre dinner & although the food was ok they certainly didn't cater at all to our gluten free diners ~ in fact the waiter appeared to be quite perplexed by this allergy ( which we found strange as it is now so common).

All in all the 4 of us had dinners that were mediocre but definitely we would not recommend or return ~

Too bad as we usually like southern cooking ~"

"I love B. Smith restaurant in Washington, D.C. at Union Station. This one in New York is nothing like the one in D.C. The food wasn't good at all. I took my mother and family there for Mother's Day this year. I was very disappointed. I will never go back there again. My mother did not eat any of her food; she was shocked that they would even serve food like that on Mother’s Day or any other day. It was a bad experience!"

"Dreadfully disappointing for the price and value provided

1) Online menu was different then menu offered at the restaurant
A) changed pancakes for waffles and had to argue to get pancakes
B) offered a special price for children that they did not want to honor until spoke to manager
2) wife's omelet was missing half the ingredients she ordered
3) had to miss desert as we had theater tickets which we informed the waiter of

"The food was ok. It was just ok, the fried chicken was a little too done & very small pieces as i got chick and waffles which should have consisted of 3 wings at least, but I got some unknown parts. "I took my mother for Mother's Day brunch and I ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was excellent, but the waffles were hard and very difficult to cut up. I want able to eat the entire waffle portion because it was so hard around the edges.
The dessert was wonderful. My mom and I both had the bourbon bread pudding. I would recommend the restaurant, just not the waffles."

"Its been at least 15 years since I've been to B. Smith's, NYC (former location). The food is very average, nothing spectacular. The fried chicken was fried very hard leaving a very dark coating with dry meat. So many reviews raved about the bread pudding, I took one forkful, not impressed. "Food was disappointing. Granted, we ordered a fried appetizer sampler that mostly tasted all the same, but the Caesar Salad was bland, the fried green tomatoes didn't have much meat on them, the coleslaw with the ribs wasn't good and the ribs themselves were slathered with sauce, making them very salty. They were tender though. Our server was helpful and friendly but definitely won't go back when there are so many other choices right on the same block."

"The food and service were just average. There are many other, better dining choices nearby. We (4) asked for separate checks at the outset and were told they do not do that. This always infuriates me since it certainly is always possible. I left a smaller tip with a note that this was because they declined to provide separate checks. The manager CALLED MY CELL (number left on Open Table when I made the reservation) and awakened me AFTER MIDNIGHT THAT NIGHT!!! He started by complaining about the tip and note I had left but really wanted me to not rate them poorly here. Customer focused restaurants and servers are happy to provide separate checks for small groups, or at least provide subtotals for each person."

"I remember some good meals at B. Smith a long time ago, but I was disappointed when I went there this week. The food just didn't taste all that good, and seemed to be cooked and served carelessly. Things like soggy waffles, rice that wasn't hot or flavorful, mediocre salmon, even the fried chicken was just okay. The rolls were under par, too. It's too bad, because it's a great location, and not too noisy, but it needs to raise its game to its former quality."

"So a friend actually booked the reservation, but wasn't able to attend. So I changed the reservation and upon arrival the entire restaurant was empty. It took our last friend a while to get there but the staff was very nice and friendly. We ordered and although the food was good, it wasn't great. We were able to stay for some time, talking, catching up. We stayed so long that we felt that we had to order either drinks/dessert. We had the mango mojito, which was great! Overall, it was a good experience, but I am not sure that I would want to return for the food, but if i wanted a nice romantic spot, yes or late night place to have a really good conversation and okay food, then I would recommend this place."
