"We had dinner to celebrate a birthday. Our server, while friendly, was very quiet and didn't really go beyond the basics. The bruschetta appetizer was good, but we were unsure why only half came with cheese on top. It would have been preferred if they were all served alike. Our dinners looked great and the salmon was seasoned well, but the sauce was watery without much flavor."

"Dined here on Mother's Day, at 5:00 with 6 people including 2 very elderly moms. Seated on bench seats at the far end of the restaurant and our moms could not hear a word of the conversation due to the noise. It was very very loud, and these women CAN still hear, but not here.
Food (every dinner) was excellent! Would rate service as...just ok."

"Usually very happy here. This experience reminded me why I normally don't go out to eat on Mother's Day. Service was slow even though brunch was almost over and 50% of tables were empty. Took an hour from time we ordered to time we got our food, and during that time they ran out of a few things. Our waitress was no where to found during most of our time there and literally only came to our table 3 or 4 times in the hour and a half we were there. Had to get a bus boy to get us plates for our appetizer. I understand that it's busy on Mothers Day, but so should they. Bring in extra help, and food. Luckily we've been there many times before and know that this was unusual, but if it were my first time, it would have been my last time...."

"we were there for Mother's Day brunch with a party of 9. the table was ready for us at the reservation time. the waiter was extremely helpful in taking our order and making recommendations. the food was outstanding. the pricing was quite reasonable. our family had a fantastic time and hope to return not only next year on Mother's Day but on other occasions as well."

"We had an excellent brunch at Caffe Gelato. The menu has lots of varied options; the eggs benedict I had was wonderful. The room is appealing, the staff friendly, and service spot on. We ordered Mimosas, which came with ice in the glass, a little strange, but the waiter corrected it without hesitation.
Of course, the ice cream finish, was a wonderful way to end the meal. All in all, we highly recommend this gem on the main street of U Del's campus. I think you will agree."

"The food was great, the staff friendly and helpful. We had a party of five, three of us sat on a horseshoe shaped banquette and two on chairs in a gangway that was too narrow, to avoid constant bumps bangs and excuse me's we pulled the table in tight, the result was that all our knees touched and the fabric on the banquette so tight that when someone leaned back the other two were propelled forward."

"We love the semi-circular booths that give a little privacy . Loved the violin music playing while we are. The pasta dishes we ordered were tasty and the pasta cooked perfectly. Servers were pleasant and service was great. We would recommend it to anyone."

"Food was fabulous! I got the steamed little necks (my absolute favorite) and the ravioli special with goat cheese. OMG I hope that becomes a regular on the menu! Service was excellent tonight. "We were celebrating my wife's birthday on a Tuesday night. We had a reservation -- we were seated immediately. Food was very good. My filet was surprisingly large, as was my wife's salmon portion. Wine pour was generous. All in all, a delightful meal."

"I went here last Sunday for brunch with my boyfriend on his mom's recommendation. We were so happy we went and cannot wait to go back. All the menu options looked delicious it was difficult to settle on just one. I went with the Paella and he opted for the crab and asparagus omelette along with a Bloody Mary. We were completely satisfied with our food. All the brunch items also come with an optional "Fun-dae" (vanilla gelato + berries + granola) for free at the end of the meal. It was a great touch! The environment was quiet and relaxed but also extremely chic. I noticed the bar area had been reserved for a bridal shower, which makes me think it could be great for a larger party there. If you love brunch, Caffe Gelato is worth visiting!"

"We got the booth I asked for when we made the reservations for 4 on a Wed night but it's half a booth. 2 ppl sit in a half-circle booth and 2 people sit on chairs. It's an unusual set up.
It was not very noisy or busy at 8pm on a Wed. But the service was only "ok". The food is delicious but over-priced. I got a pork loin entree for $28. It was more like an $18 entree. My BF got a $20 pasta dish & added chicken for another $5. We each ordered the "side" salad. One was clearly smaller than the other.
My drink sat empty too long. We went for long periods of time without seeing the server. She brought our companion coffee with cream but no spoon. So he waited. And waited for a spoon. :-/"

"We were shown to a table, but no waiter came over. After 15 minutes, my husband went to the maitre'd and requested a waiter. A rather flustered waiter showed up about 5 minutes later. His service was good.
We were seated at a table right next to the bar and the bartenders clanked the glasses in my ears the whole time. Poor place to put a table.
Three dishes were good. One was okay. Serving size good.
Dessert and coffee excellent.
I have been there before, but will probably avoid it. There are too many places that are great and treat me well."

"Went for my husband's birthday. The ambiance is a little "old" for my taste. We ordered soda's and bruschetta. My husband received 3 soda's during the night, and none of them were properly mixxed. We finally gave up. The bruschetta was basically a crouton with jarred sauce and a piece of cheese.

For dinner I ordered Salmon and he ordered lamb. The lamb was the whole reason we went there. I will say that the meats were the highlight of the meal. Both were cooked well. The port wine reduction was wonderful. The sides were mashed butternut squash for the salmon and mashed goat cheese potatoes for the lamb. The goat cheese was just sitting in a pile in the potatoes, and not mixed in.

Our waitress was perfect."

"Our first-ever visit to Caffe Gelato was for Easter brunch with my husband, 3-year old and 9-year old daughters. LOVE from a family standpoint that there was a separate kids menu and that any brunch item could be made "kid-sized." So my older daughter was able to have pizza with a side salad while my little one had pint-sized french toast with bacon. Our server could not have been nicer to the kids and Mom loved her mimosa. Since moving to Hockessin a couple of years ago, we have been meaning to get down to Newark to try out this neighborhood gem and we are glad we did. No overpriced special Easter menu, just the regular brunch menu with lots of specials. A great value!"

"I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed our meal and experience at Caffe Gelato. I have been few other places where the staff were as attentive and kind. I had mentioned on our reservation that it was our wedding anniversary. Each person that we saw or spoke with made sure to tell us happy anniversary.
On top of all of this, the food was very good. My husband ordered the veal chop and I had the filet mingon - both regular menu items. My steak was cooked to perfection, and the truffled whipped potatoes were creamy, smooth and flavorful.
We will definitely be coming back soon, and recommending this place to everyone we know."

On our last visit, it was a bit noisier and more crowded than usual because of the Wine & Dine Festival, but we still enjoyed our dinner and the service was impeccable. We had one of the best brunches we've ever had a few weeks ago, so we know we will be back for that. I had to physically hold my husband back from hijacking my stuffed french toast!
Our only (very minor) complaint was the Irish Creme coffee my husband had after the meal. It was mediocre. But overall, excellent dining that will keep us coming back!"

"This visit to Cafe Gelato was particularly enjoyable. It was Wine and Dine night in downtown Newark,and they reserved the entire outside seating area for the wine samples as well as some of the bar area. This made it more noisy than usual but it was rather short-lived and did not disturb us much.

An Artic char on the menu was phenomenal,they offered our table samples as an appetizer to taste. Our proverbial favorite, the shrimp and crab linguini dish was excellent, with loads of flavor and low in sodium, as requested. I also ordered the pinot noir flight of wines, all were incredible, with one being superb. All in all, it was a great experience, more so than usual."

"Food was excellent. Only comment is that the night we were there was a "buy one, get one free" night. Had to specifically ask for that vs having the server automatically take that into account. An acquaintance was tree the same evening and did not know that, so did not get the discount. Made her experience not pleasant after the fact and makes me wonder about the restaurants integrity."

"We regularly dine here for both lunch and dinner. The food is always excellent, the waitstaff pleasant and accommodating and the owner visible. During this outing, our pork tenderloin panini was fresh, tasty and delicious. Anna, the hostess and our server, did a great job honoring our reservation for a half-moon table and attending to our needs. Owner Ryan German stopped by the table and was advised what an excellent job he is doing with superior waitstaff selection. A nice perk for the wallet is the mailed coupon and special value e-mails which allow $avings."

"This was a special family night. It was my wifes birthday and I choose Cafe Gelato. When we arrived I found out my family of 5 was going to sit in the wine cellar. It was a great atmospher. A bit chilly but the temp improved. My kids are 14, 13, 13. They all choose something different. I must tell you I am a hard pleaser. The food was outstanding! The service by Jeff was FIRST Class the whole night. I ordered a special cake and all the details were handled perfectly. My family left with HUGE smilies on their faces. I was thrilled with everything. The service was impeccable!"

"After a disappointing first try on Valentines Day, I was unable to judge the food or wait service. With outstanding customer service from management, we were encouraged to come back to give them a second chance. I am very glad we did. On a regular business day, there was no wait and we were guided to a booth. The waiter we had was fantastic; he gave great suggestions that proved correct and was swift. The food.... oh the food! The appetizers were a good size(not too big or too small) and was delish! We had rib eye for one entree and the rack of lamb. Both were YUMMY! Goat cheese mashed potatoes were even great even for someone who isn't a fan of goat cheese normally. The gelato did not let us down either. Overall, very pleased!"
