Dating back to 1681, The Broad Axe Tavern is one of America's oldest taverns. Reopened in May of 2009 after undergone a multi-million dollar renovation. We welcome you to come in to see and enjoy this historic land mark. The pointed stone, hardwood and slate tiled floors give the restaurant its old world charm. Its leather booths, wood tables and iron fixtures also give it a casual elegance.
The menu is a eclectic mix of small plates for grazing, grilled pizzas, large plates and tavern sandwiches. Guest favorites include Steamed Mussels, Seafood Chowder and Crab Cakes, NY Strip Steak and our Award-Winning BBQ Ribs.
A great place to meet and greet with sixteen craft and imported beers on tap, over 175 bottled beers from around the world for your enjoyment. Or try a bottle of wine from our 21 Club, 38 Special list. We also have high end Premium wines or one of our great wines by the glass. Daily drink specials include happy hour 5-7pm.
"This restaurant is not designed to handle a large buffet and a large crowd. The buffet food was cold and not very good. There was very little food available after standing in line. The server did not provide coffee. The coffee station was located on the bar which was in the area that the line formed for the buffet. We all ordered omelets which were dry and burnt. We were located near the kitchen area and it was obvious that the servers had problems with the cooking staff. In one case, the cook told the server to serve an omelet that had the wrong type of cheese. The server refused. Terrible experience overall."

"We decided to try the Broad Axe Tavern since the William Penn Inn wasn't serving a Mother's Day Brunch. We won't ever go again! Poorly understaffed, kept running out of plates, food, coffee, etc. Waitstaff was non-existent. Not sure how long they have been doing "Brunch" but they definitely need to improve."

"Reservation for 4 adults for the Mother's Day buffet. it was a nightmare start to finish. They clearly had no idea how to run a buffet, and the server, Stephani, who was also the bartender and, I heard her tell another diner, the manager, was surly and inattentive. The food was something I would expect at a charity breakfast. The 'omelettes to order' were supposed to ordered through the server, not that she mentioned it when she took our drink orders, we had to ask, and since she never came back we never got the chance Then to add insult to a horrible experience they had the gaul to add a 20% gratuity to the bill. I will never go back to this restaurant. Horrible experience start to finish. $63 for a meal that was worth about $15."

"It was our first time there, as we have always passed by it on our way to the Plymouth Meeting mall and on a whim I decided to make reservations there in order for us to try it out. We made reservations for 7:30 and because of my lack of being able to judge drive times, we arrived there about an hour early. When we went in, and introduced ourselves they seated us right away because the had the space, and to be honest it was awesome.
Although I will say I am not a particular fan of high top seating at the bar, it was a good for the atmostphere. Excellent selection of beers in the bottles, and a good selection on tap. Dinner was amazing. The ribs were fall of the bone tender and the fries were perfect. An awesome experience overall!"

"As repeat guests we were very disappointed, and were treated rudely by staff with no apologies for a miserable experience, and no adjustment to our bill. We had arrived promptly at 6:30 with a reservation, and were told it would be a "few minutes". We had a 4 year old along, and having a few minutes turn into 40 was a real problem for us. We asked for a server to take our child's order immediately since we had already waited so long. It took another 15 minutes just for her order to go in. I asked for her meal to be delivered as soon as it was ready- 40 minutes later I had to ask the hostess to check with the kitchen. When our meals finally did come, my platter was a watery mess and was not prepared as described on the menu."

"Was there with a party of 13. Restaurant was not busy, service was poor and the food was worse. Had to search for the server in order to pay the bill. Combination platter ordered by 4 of us. Food was overcooked and cold."

"Broad Axe is fine for weekend dining in a pinch. They should spend some time on the details: clean glasses, making sure the wine advertised on menu is in stock, making sure the food does not sit too long. They get busy and seems like a challenge keeping up. Overall good, esp with kids when parents don't want semi-fast food."

"It was pretty loud and hard to hear my husband's voice. The food was good. Server had too many tables to provide 4-5 star service. My husband loved his burger and I enjoyed the soup sandwich combo. Broad Axe has an outstanding craft beer selection."

"I took my mother to Easter Brunch, The service was great and our waiter was even knowledgable about the history of the broad Ax. The Westeren Omlette was also very good. My only complaint was the decor. I was a club manager for the Army and Marine Corps and our Ester Brunch Displays were amazing. May I recomend, Pastel linens, flowers, Easter baskets, pastel table skirts and plastic grass and eggs. I've done this for many years and the wow factor really brings in the customers."

"Great beer selection (bottled & on tap!) The server was cheery & knew rhe menu & beer selections well. I enjoyed the seasoned fries, duck pot stickers & mussels! The flourless chocolate cake was also really good! It was a great place to enjoy with my boyfriend & his family. I will be returning! They also played great music! Pink Floyd & the Who among others!"

"We did have an issue with the strawberry napoleon...it was just dry an flaky. We switched to the key lime which was better but not as good as the last time we were there. Dinner was good (Mexican night)."

"OMG...Too many good things to mention. Do I start with the knowledgeable service? Or do I lead off with the AMAZING beer selection. No. I'll start with the good, basic, simple (yet tasty) food that doesn't try to put on airs.
The Broad Axe does not pretend to be something its not. It excels at being the best of what it is...which is a gastro Pub with an amazing beer selection for all, and a staff that is well versed in product and customer service.
Kudos to you Broad Axe Tavern...you have earned another "regular" patron."

"Wanted to support the Broad Axe so I brought a group of friends for dinner. Service at the bar was excellent. The bartender took the time to review the wines and make a recommendation for by-the-glass and bottled wine. Very good bar service.
Dining room service was so awful that we had to speak to the manager. Neither our server nor the manager ever apologized for forgetting one person's salad, one person's appetizer, one person's cold rack of lamb, never refilling our water. The food was good, except for the desserts - uniformly disappointing. Overall, though, we won't go back because of the poor service."

"There were 12 of us for Sunday Brunch and every one of us enjoyed our platters. Alex, our waiter, kept coffee cups filled and patiently waited for 4 of our party who came 20 minutes late. The final bill, including tip (and some extra) came to $15. a person....and we couldn't have eaten another bite!"

"The waitress could have been a little more pleasant. She came off as miserable at her job and barely cracked a smile. I guess she figured since we were already a large party she would get her tip regardless, too bad for her because my group and I would have given her more than 20% had she been friendly and open. Otherwise the food was good and the atmosphere was very nice."

"We took a dear friend of ours out to diner while we were in town. We selected the Broad Axe as she had never been their (either had we), we found it to be very friendly. Our friend uses a walker and the hostess was very accomadating, finding us a table that was user friendly towards special needs. The service and food were both great and the environment was condusive for a leaisurely dinner. Thank you and we will come again."

"The Broad Axe Tavern has a great chef! The restaurant has a bar feel and there are a lot of "bar" items on the menu. But they also have some really delicious, special items as well. I went around Thanksgiving and they had some amazing pumpkin ravioli. SO good! My latest visit was for Valentines day. $60 per couple for an appetizer, entree, a glass of champagne and chocolate covered strawberry. Great deal and delicious!"
