Picholine offers contemporary French-Mediterranean cuisine in both it's elegant dining rooms and casual, no reservation cheese and wine bar. Perhaps best known for introducing the European cheese cart to discerning American diners, Chef Brennan also specializes in Wild Game and innovative contemporary Mediterranean dishes.
The restaurant received a James Beard Foundation nomination for the country’s outstanding restaurant in 2007, and was awarded two stars in the 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011editions of Michelin Guide New York City.

"went on a weekday evening about 8pm the restaurant was amazingly empty 2 other tables taken and stayed that way for our entire visit. evything was good but grossly overpriced. only go if you have money to burn and want plenty of empty space areound you"

"We went for Mother's Day brunch. The service, from the initial phone call to confirm our reservation through the moment we left the restaurant could not have been any better nor could they have been any nicer. Although they had a set brunch menu and a kids brunch menu, they graciously made items not on the menu for my son and added selections to the tasting menu for my wife. The food was creative and delicious, and the presentation was flawless. Highly recommended"

"We liked the food. However, my taste buds felt somewhat underwhelmed, relative to my experience at several other Michelin-rated restaurants in New York. Picholine may owe its fame more to its location near the MET, than to the taste of its food. The service was outstanding -- we were waited on by an attentive and polite staff. The best part of the restaurant for me, was the ambiance."

"Our first visit. Pre-theatre service and timing were impeccable. The formal dining room is complimented by a relaxed quiet and friendly atmosphere. From the moment we walked in we were sincerely welcomed and cared for which added to the marvelous tastes we experienced with crab & avocado Roulade, Duck & Foie gras Rillette, and Thomas Farm Squab. Each of these gave us subtle and rare taste treats. Wonderful cheese selections are an alternative to sweets for dessert. We will certainly be back!"

"We arrived late for our reservation, and had to make a 7PM curtain time at the Met. They were extremely helpful and courteous, and managed to make a quick meal an outstanding experience. My risotto appetizer was delicious, as was the butter-poached halibut. A wonderful selection of cheeses was created for us as we confessed we didn't really know what to order. I'd love to return when we have more time."

"The resturant on a whole is very good. But any time a chef uses foam in so many courses a diner should be cautious. The from age expert was excellent. The wine sommelier was entertaining but some of his picks were less than expected for the level of cost. Service was stuffy overall and not enjoyable. This is a carry over from the clientele. Overall many more enjoyable a much less expensive culinary adventures can be found in New York."

"Went there for a dinner before NY Philharmonic concert at Lincoln Center. The location was perfect, one block away from Avery Fisher Hall.
Reserved at 5pm for 8pm show. Ordered Prix Fixe menu, except my wife ordered the special entree, Lamb, which was a little undercooked and was additional $12, which was not mentioned in the menu or by the waiter. Otherwise, everything was excellent. Finished the meal at around 6:30pm, plenty of time left to get to the Lincoln Center.

"The food was outstanding and the service exceptional. The most unusual and nicest was the FLEXIBLE MENU!!! There were 2,3,& 5 course options;however, they were unbelievably accommodating. The menu had great selection and we were encouraged to choose what we wanted and they would adjust the portions depending on the number and placement of the courses. We could choose from any of the “appetizers,” main choices, or from the tasting menu and create, in any order, our meal as we wanted. I chose three, my wife two, and it was fantastic. I have never before experienced such freedom and this feature alone makes it worth checking out --but I suspect you will be back for the food."

"When I made the reservation on Opentable I mentioned it was our 30th wedding anniversary. They really made it a special occassion; "happy anni ersary" written across the top of our menus, a special dessert and glasses of champagne at the end of our amazing dinner. Their wine list is worth studying carefully as the choices are fabulous."

"Very formal,hushed dining room with an abundance of waitstaff and excellent food.Back dining room so dimly lit it was difficult to read the menu.Decor could use some livening up--perhaps more fresh flowers or artwork.Cod entree was fantastic but crab-avocado appetizer was too bland.Least expensive glass of white wine is $17--yikes!Lovely chocolates presented at end of meal--a nice touch."

"Rather disappointing! In spite of spending over $400 on dinner, I found the flavors to be uninspired (sea bass steamed in curry broth--oh yeah, I remember 1994), and sometimes unpleasantly strange (tapioca chips, marshmallows with Chinese 5 spice powder). For a restaurant of this caliber, I expect a memorable dining experience, not to feel that I wasted my money."

"Delicious upscale restaurant. My husband and I went for his birthday. They custom printed the menus with his name. They were extremely accomodating. We did the 5-course tasting menu and they basically let us choose courses from any part of the menu and put it all together."
