"This is always a reliable place for special occasions or a romantic dinner. In our case, a birthday celebration included use of a small private room. The waitstaff is always attentive. The crabcakes are to die for. No filling. Let's not get started with the lobster mac and cheese. I might start salivating on my keyboard. The cheesecake had a wonderful pecan crust."

"This is a great place to go when you know you have to get it right. I often go for a business dinner but my family and I love it too. It's an upscale steak and seafood restaurant with wonderful dishes and fantastic a la carte sides like creamed corn au gratin and asparagus with hollandaise. The selection of steaks is wonderful and they are cooked to perfection with many accompaniments available. The seafood choices (including live lobsters you walk by on the way in) are also plentiful and the chef has fantastic preparations for all of them, but also the option of having them prepared simply, which is always a great option. The appetizers can make for a meal in themselves if you are grabbing a drink at the bar. The staff is outstanding."

"Bookbinder is not normally open on Sunday, only special occasions such as Mothers Day. Fresh lobster, seared tuna, kona rubbed filet mignon ordered by group and done in excellent way. Hostesses and wait staff were on the mark at all times. Never missed a step during our two hour stay.
Parking is very tight in the district, valet parking for $5 well worth it and handled by two gentlemen in good form.
Bookbinder has long history of great meals and it showed well through everything.

"My husband and son treated me to dinner for Mother's Day. We had eaten there last summer for my birthday, and I wanted to return. I've eaten the same thing each time - steak and crab cake, with asparagus and lobster/cheese macaroni. While they are known for their crab cakes, which have no breading, it's the steak that has me wanting to return. I like my steaks well done, which at most restaurants leaves them pretty dried out. Not here! It was very tender and was the last bite I ate so I could leave with that taste in my mouth. Service was excellent, and the waiter took photos for us. We'll be back! It's the best place we've eaten in Richmond."

"As usual, Bookbinders did not fail to meet my expectations. The food was prepared just the way we ordered it and came to the table at the perfect temperature. The only reason I rated the service as only good was that it took a while for our server to come take our drink orders. After she did, she was very attentive for the remainder of our visit."

"I have enjoyed Bookbinders many times over the years, but this time, the waiter had too many tables he was juggling the whole time. Waiting between courses was on going. I tried to order desert, but after waiting over 10 minutes just to get the menu we gave up. The steak was only mediocre, and the Crab cake was good. My family ate at Ruth's Chris the following night and the difference was startling, Ruth's Chris food was better, service was dramatically better and the price similar."

"As usual, at Bookbinder's one must try an excellent steak and red wine. The Kona-rubbed filet did not disappoint! The Wagyu beef was not exceptional, although tasty, it was a bit overcooked and lost some of its expected awesomeness. Stuffed mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and creamy spinach were delightful. The Barboursville Vineyard Cabarnet Franc Reserve 2010 was truly smooth and flavorful. For special occasions, the restaurant goes out of its way to be special, with custom-printed menus for a take-home souvenir and a table tucked away in a dark corner. On weekdays, though, the open warehouse-style high ceilings with the typical business dinner tables can result in a noise level that is higher than romantic."

"The food is consistently great. I prefer the Cowboy Ribeye and it is the same every time and wonderful. Every dish is great. The parking is a little weird in my opinion. It would be best if one could park righ across from Bookbinders without having to go through a valet. It would be good to have some seating a little quieter and possibly more private for special occassions."

"The night started out wonderful. We had never been to this place and our server, Morgan, did a great job explaining the menu and specials. We started out with an appetizer that was to die for. Followed by a Caesar salad that lacked taste. We then opted for a recommendation from the server and got the Filet and Crab Cakes - Cooked perfectly and was delicious. The lobster fettuccine had a little too much garlic for our taste. By the end of the meal, a large group came in and the noise level was a little too much. Overall, the food was good and we will definitely eat here again."

"First time we ever visted Bookbinder's we are from out of state visting our son and his friends for Easter as the are all students at UR. Great Food, Great Day, Great Experience. Will be sure to revisit when in the Richmond area. Also, compliments to the owner and his daughter who stopped at all the tables to introduce themselves and wish us all a Happy Easter.......nice touch !!"

"The seafood is as notable as the meat cuts. Had the wasabi crusted salmon and it was expertly cooked with great flavor and texture. The chef did a sweet curried carrot soup the night of our visit and it was something special. Closed it out with a superb candy crucnhy-gooey sweet creme brule and coffee. Will be back soon."

"We celebrated my parent's 60th wedding anniversary at Bookbinders. I made my reservation on Open Table and made several special requests. I asked for an easily accessable, quiet table and pre-ordered a bottle of champagne to have waiting for us at the table. All of this was done plus more. They printed special menus that congratulated my parents on their 60th wedding anniversary. They have a handicap entrance where you ring the doorbell and enter the dining room. It was super easy for my parents to walk to our table. We love the crab cakes and they were delicious as usual. The owner of Bookbinders and his daughter visited with each table, introduced themselves and inquired about our visit and the food."

"We were not aware that Bookbinder's had a children's menu until this visit. It is an incredibly good deal and one of the children was able to order a nice-sized steak. We will definitely choose Bookbinder's again over Morton's in part because of this good value. The children enjoyed the grown-up dining experince and I got to eat someplace without a sticky table. The menu has a good variety without having too much or too little to choose from. We have never had a bad dining experience at this location."

"The service and staff were outstanding as well as the ambiance, view, and wine list. To explain the FAIR rating on the food however is that from my point of view an eight ounce filet entree and a surf and turf with another eight ounce filet should be cooked to perfection in a restaurant such as Bookbinders. Both steaks were ordered medium-rare, however they were both served medium-well. It took cutting into the center of the steaks to get a bit of pink. Now they were both tasty mind you but the entrees came out so fast it was a wonder how they could be so overcooked. Anyway, having worked in restaurants all through college I would never send anything back. But for $181 (including a $31 tip) I would have expected a perfect steak."

"Great Valentine's Dinner with my fiance. The shrimp bisque was delicious and I ordered a well-done filet mignon which was super tender and able to be cut with one swipe of my knife! The best steak I've had. We split a stuffed baked potato and it was plenty of potato, even for my carb-loving appetite. Skipped dessert since they had andes mints at checkout - yummy! We will be back soon."
