"This resetaurant has been here a long time but still delevers great food. Lunch portions were ample and very tasty and prices reasonable. Atmosphere quaint and welcoming."

"The food was solid, but nothing spectacular, especially given the higher prices. I ordered the beef tenderloin and had chickpea fritters and hummus as appetizers. I strongly recommend the chickpea fritters. These really stood out. Everything else was good, but not to rave about. How local the ingredients are is very admirable though. Lastly, the Meritage Pennsylvania wine was decent, but likely not worth the price."

"I hadn't been for lunch recently and found a greatly changed lunch menu. There weren't many appealing items, and I was not pleased with my food. Our server was very pleasant but a bit inept. For example, he couldn't seem to grasp that I (a woman) was taking my male colleague to lunch and kept trying to give my colleague the bill, my credit card.
My experiences at dinner have been much better. The lunch menu needs a tune up."

"FOOD: good (even better than I remembered from our last visit 3 years ago) DECOR: in the front is very homy (the restaurant is made of 3 narrow row houses). The back is an extension that lacks a bit of charm. We were seated in the back first but it was very cold with the AC so we asked for another table, in the front. SERVICE: very good. Our server knew the menu well and he was very patient with us as it took us a very long time to pick our food (too busy catching up with our friends)"

"The White Dog has always been one of the popular and excellent restaurants near Penn. For lunch faculty and administrators are everywhere with a few students who are being visited by their families. It is a great place to celebrate. The new menu tends to be expensive -- more than the old. The food is excellent but pricy with limited selection (at least at noon). I found the waiters trying to up-sell menu items -- not what I expected at a place of this quality."

"I used to love going to the White Dog, especially for special occasions, but I was disappointed in my most recent experience there for lunch. In spite of having reservations, we were told we'd have to wait to be seated, but were encouraged to sit outside (on a cool, windy day). When outdoor seating was declined, we were immediately seated indoors.. Our appetizers arrived after our entrees. So much of the food seemed fried and unhealthy, not what I've been used to from the White Dog in the past. Prices were up and food quality was down. Pedestrian offerings (falafel) were dressed up with fancy names ("chickpea fritters"). I will think twice before deciding to return."

"One of my favorites has gone down hill. Rude waiter. Food with too much dairy, cheese, etc. No desserts made of fruit. Limited healthy and vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. And talk about loud! I will not be back until they change their menu."

"Service was okay, waiter was good but the girl who was bussing was bringing entrees before appetizers and salads were cleared. It was ridiculous how the plates were piling up without being cleared. I expected better service, it was quite slow too. The food was very good though. The wine list was very small and very expensive."

"This was all five of our first times at White Dog for brunch and bottemless mimosas, and it was incredible! Our server was really attentive to making sure our mimosa glasses were full, which was much appreciated. The environment was perfect, and the food was delicious. Definitely a fun, "special treat" step up from other brunch places like Sabrina's or Green Eggs Cafes. Would definitely come back!"

"I usually love the White Dog Cafe but on this day is was uncomfortably hot and extremely noisy. Our harried waitress also noted that it was too hot and too noisy but said the management refused to open the windows or adjust the heat. Two of my guests had very overcooked hamburgers and it was nearly impossible to talk over the noise. Overall the meal was unpleasant and not worth the time and money and made a poor impression my guests."

"The atmosphere is charming and our waiter was attentive and pleasant. I did not enjoy my entree, chick pea fritter salad, which was drenched in a salty dressing. However, the other diners in my party enjoyed their meals, the house salad and the burger. Overall, the experience was enjoyable and I would return but try something else."

"Three in our party had omelettes, all with very fresh eggs, vegetables and cheeses, accompanied by wonderful farm fresh lightly dressed lettuces. The other person had a more elaborate brioche dish, similar to eggs benedict, also excellent. Well prepared organic foods, locally sourced and tasty coffee. Portions generous but not excessive. A bit loud but worth it for a great Sunday brunch."

"The food was somewhat disappointing. My husband and my Mother had a burger which was extremely dry and not evenly cooked. I had a salad which was fair...a tiny salad for $10.00.I had an appetizer chicken pot pie for my main course which was more than enough for me but it had a very off putting flavor in the chicken. My son had a local roasted chicken with greens and macaroni and cheese. His was the best of the lot, his small piece of chicken sat atop a huge pile of cooked greens which had an unappetizing pool of liquid from the greens on the plate. This not the first time we have dined there but I think it will be the last."

"Dined on Thursday night before the Annenberg. Has rigatoni lamb bolognese. Was fab. One of the best pastas I've ever had. The o ly annoying thing was that happy hour (prices) for drinks only applies to the bar, not the dining room. Makes no sense to me. However, as I said, the meal was excellent."

"We sampled a few of the smaller items on a bustling Wednesday night, and found we both really liked what White Dog had to offer. The Kennett Mushroom soup was excellent, not too heavy, but also not too hot. I didn't mind, but it could've been a tad warmer. The grilled Caesar was so unique, and the capers really set this apart from other salads. The collards were over-the-top flavorful, and paired well with the mac-n-cheese. I love the idea of organic / farm-to-table restaurants, and I think White Dog Cafe pulls it off well, offering a variety of selections for both carnivores and vegans. I look forward to trying a few of the summer dishes in a few months!"

"My wife and I go there every Sunday for Brunch. It is a little pricey especially for dinner, but brunch once a week is affordable and the food is excellent. The only reason service gets 4 stars instead of 5 was that on this last visit there was an issue with their computer system and they had to bring the checks out writing by hand. The issue was that they were not prepared for this and made a lot of people wait a long time to get their check and especially if you wanted to pay by credit/debit card. I ran outside to an atm rather than wait. The waiter did not count the coffee and tea that we had ordered in the check. I am optimistic that this was a freak occurrence and will be going back next Sunday."

"We had a delicious Easter meal, however the service was slow and often non-existent. At the very end of our meal, we were told that there has been a computer glitch which lead to the delayed kitchen output. This information would have been better provided at the beginning of our meal. Three soups were brought to the table, poured into the bowl before the patrons, yet each without a spoon. Desert menus had to be requested, instead of offered. The food was great and it was wonderful to spend the meal with family, however the wait was tiresome and the apologies were not thoughtful nor appreciative."

"It was lovely to sit outside on a Spring day. The Brunch menu was limited, but we enjoyed our meal, but not enough to make up for the server. Thanks, but next time we'll try the many other delightful restaurants in Philadelphia where the service is courteous. Train your staff in manners."

"Went with group of 5. Mushroom soup and grouper were outstanding--burgers too. Service was attentive, but not overbearing. Server pointed out that an 18% gratuity was added to the bill so that we did not mistakenly tip more than we wanted. It was a little noisy. With a group of more than 4, you may want to ask for a round table."

"I was disappointed with the White Dog University City. In comparison to the Wayne restaurant, they did not have a good selection on the menu. The French toast choice was with nutella, marshmallows, and peanut butter...not appealing to most people over the age of 12. The Wayne restaurant brings lovely breads and interesting spreads and jams to your table; the Univ.city restaurant served me my omelet with no bread whatsover. When I asked to have bread, I was brought un-interesting whole wheat toast that looked like it was prepackaged bread that you'd buy in the supermarket. My omelet had too much cheese (even though I specifically asked for them to go light on the cheese amount) but not enough seasoning.I won't come back."
