Message from John & Thu Ha:
The Richmond is a small family owned restaurant. Our goal is to deliver upscale food and service at neighborhood prices. Since the Spring of 2005, we have created relationships with local farmers and ranchers. The entire Richmond Restaurant family would like to thank our suppliers, and most importantly, our loyal customers for your support. We are proud to have you as part of our small community.
Wine Program:
Our goal is to offer some of the cheapest "restaurant" wine prices in the Bay Area. We believe most local restaurants take advantage of customers with overly inflated wine prices. My wife and I are committed to selling wine at more than 30 percent below typical restaurant pricing. Our wine list has an emphasis on small local family wineries.
"This was my second visit to The Richmond within ten days, so it should be obvious that I am a fan. Once again, it did not disappoint. Although the menu is not extensive, it offers enough options to dine there frequently and be able to have something different. Food service is perfectly paced, allowing you to enjoy your meal but not feeling rushed. Perhaps the most appreciated feature for us was that we could carry on a conversation without feeling the need to shout at each other. Although there were people at adjacent tables, we did not hear their conversations either. If only the parking weren't so challenging...but The Richmond is definitely worth the visit."

"Try the chicken - it's fantastic. Or the duck, which is cooked perfectly in a great sauce. Or the squash soup. Or the brie combination. Or the coffee semifreddo. Service was attentive but not annoying and the timing of the dishes was perfect. They even accommodated a friend's request for a surprise birthday dessert for us! Unfortunately, even on a Thursday evening, parking was a real challenge!"

"I found this place thru Zagat. It was a simple two blocks from where we stayed in Inner Richmond. It was affordable, delicious, and beautifully presented food. We loved it and will definitely make a point o return there on our next visit to SF, even if we don't stay in that neighborhood. I highly recommend it!!!"

"The food and service were great. The only complaint I have is that the decor is a little tired. That is the only thing that would hold me back from going there again."

"We really enjoyed the fixed menu with wine pairing. Our server (Rochelle) was wonderful as she described each course and wine pairing beautifully. A special evening at The Richmond."

"The Richmond continues to be the neighborhood gem we discovered several years ago. The food is well prepared, beautifully presented and delicious. The menu is not extensive, but changes enough to make trying new items possible if you don't want to go with your favorites from last time. The wait staff is very attentive without being overwhelming, and very helpful if asked for an opinion. While this is a small restaurant, each table enjoys its own privacy and it is possible to carry on a conversation without trying to talk over the people around you."

"We had a wonderful dinner - as usual. We did the tasting menu for the first time ever with the wine pairing. The price for both is terrific and the food was delicious, both the dishes on the menu plus the three (!) amuse bouches. The wine pairing was exceptional."

"Food was absolutely stellar and a great value. We had the salmon and the duck and tried a couple of the appetizers and a total of three glasses of wine...our bill was under $100. Hard to find this quality for this great price."

"The Richmond has consistently served us very good food. I have been to this place dozens of times and I never had a bad meal. The prices are great, and the portions, a little too big (but who is complaining?). I highly recommend this place for a romantic dinner.
Their bread with 3 different butters is outstanding! The chef is very accommodation and creative, and I love that they substitute the foie gras for sweetbreads. It was a great addition.
This place is a gem."

"This return visit was another delicious, beautifully prepared, and well presented meal. The tasting menu offered perfect proportions of exquisite selections from their careful menu, and the wine pairings were well chosen to compliment each offering. Two amuse-bouche were also samples of other glorious menu choices. This is one of the best restaurants I have ever enjoyed, from here to the other side of heaven which is Paris."

"The Richmond continues to provide excellent meals at great value. They utilize high quality ingredients to prepare imaginative, delicious food which is always presented in an appealing manner. Portions are very generous. My only complaint was that the appetizer and entree were so good that I had no room for any of their wonderful desserts There is a good selection of wines at very reasonable prices. The glass of inexpensive Pinot Noir went well with my meal. Bottles run from the mid-20's to over $200 and there were many bottles at the bottom and middle end that I would order on future visits with a larger party. My server was knowledgeable and properly attentive. The bus person could have done better. Quibble, use loose tea or better ba"

"Food is still good but we noticed sauces were richer than usual with more cream. We would liked a lighter preparation otherwise we had a good experience. Wait staff was very nice as usual."

"I enjoyed everything about the Richmond, good service and overall I liked the food although for my taste I thought the crab cake was too salty. My friend's steak was how he ordered it and my salmon was great - especially as it had a lot of green veggies with it which I like to have. We shared the coffee granita - and thought it was not that special - but the ice cream tasted good at the end of the meal. They served us coffee and left the urns at the table which was great and the regular coffee was strong hot and delish! Not a lot of choices for non meat eaters but I would return to see what else is on. Their tasting menu - 5 course did look very good if you eat everything including red meat."

"Known for the dinner pre-fix. Alternative options are good, but somewhat limited. What we had was very good and the overall atmosphere very nice. You get a peak into the kitchen if you walk just outside the front door. Very cute overall and good option for more intimate dinner nights."

"I was pleasantly surprised to find such a wonderful restaurant. The short-rib w/scallop appetizer was amazing. Their sauces were quite good as well! Skip the coffee dessert......."

"What a weird restaurant. It's a tiny neighborhood restaurant in the inner Richmond with a strangely decorated, and uncannily quiet, dining room. The food itself was good - and the wire pairings we got to go along with it were great - but the fact that we were aware of everyone else in the restaurant made for a weird dining experience. Loved the fact that the husband/wife team that owns it came out to tell us to hang after closing. Love that they let me park in their driveway. Love that their amouse bouche was basically a Ruffles potato chip done fancy. Just not sure I could go back despite the cuteness and good food."

"Went there for Valentine's day and the service was excellent. My steak was cooked perfectly and while moderate, they were not skimpy portions. Drank champagne and even though we were a bit boisterous and the restaurant was rather quiet, I do not think we disturbed the other guests."

"This was the second time I've been & eaten here. Both times, mid-week, this has been an ideal place for me to meet a dear friend and spend quality time and talk. Food was beautifully prepared, the atmosphere is quiet but by not means subdued, and the service was excellent - responsive yet unobtrusive. The one downside is parking--street parking only, which is NOT plentiful."

"The food is really very good, especially for a neighborhood place and the prices are reasonable. We had crab cakes, wonderful, creamy and well seasoned with a nice sauce; sweetbreads, crispy and a nice sauce; salmon with wonderful vegetables. The wine list is excellent with boutique type wines and at fair prices. A delightful place."

"We thoroughly enjoyed a "dining"experience at The Richmond. We even had an excellent bottle of Raymond Cab for an incredible price. The only negative is parking, but we were able to overcome that by walking from the home we were staying. We will return to The Richmond the next time we are in town."

"I was looking for a nice place for a second date in the Richmond or Sunset districts. Surprisingly few options for something on the elegant side in that part of town. Reviews for The Richmond seemed to set it apart so I decided to give it a try. I arrived for a 7pm reservation and found a parking spot within a block but it took my date about 45 minutes to find parking way out on Geary, thus defeating the purpose. The staff courteously held my table while I waited at the bar with a glass of wine until my date arrived. We were seated immediately. We shared a lovely beet salad and both ordered the duck entree. Food was nicely presented and very tasty. Ambiance is tasteful and quietly understated. Service was friendly and polite. Recommended."

"The Richmond continues to provide a fine meal at a very reasonable price. They have never disappointed and last Thursday was similar to other dinners there. We had an out-of-town guest and we wanted her to have a special San Francisco dining experience without spending a lot of money. Everything we had was well prepared with fresh ingredients to go along with excellent service and very good wine at a bargain price. We could have spent twice as much or more at other Bay Area restaurants and still not had such a positive experience. The Richmond will be among my top five Bay Area restaurants on the next Zagat review."
