"Max's Wine Dive was the perfect gourmet comfort food option, for both my unadventurous parent and my foodie wife to enjoy. The bison sliders and truffle Mac and Cheese are always on the classic menu, and were both home-runs in everyone's opinion. My parents shared the award winning fried chicken, recognized by Travel and Leisure and worth the trip just for the chicken. Most and succulent, with crisp, perfectly seasoned breading that doesn't all slide off with the first bite, I have not ever had a better piece of fried chicken. The summer menu also surpassed - my wife enjoyed an arugula salad with watermelon croutons and tuna tartar. The salad was a great way to wind down a humid afternoon. I enjoyed an incredible pork with "fried" couscous."

"Thoroughly enjoyed myself.... Great food, great restaurant, other than that we went around noon on a Saturday. It was so loud between the music and other guest, you couldn't hear the people sitting across from you and we had to yell our order to the waiter. But that's ok, I will definitely be going back."

"This was our first time dining at Max's and I would give it 10 starts if I could. The service was great and fast. The food was fresh and tasted wonderfully!!!! "I was afraid that an order of 4 crepes with roasted bananas was too much food for brunch, so I asked for a half order. Big mistake. The crepes were not large and they were so delicious that I definitely could have eaten a full order. Five days later, I'm still thinking about those wonderful crepes. Will be back for more."

"My only concern is the size of the restaurant. It's in a very narrow space, so it's a bit tight when walking in and around. Other than that, it was great! Delicious food, nice variety, great and friendly service, and just enough "noise" so you don't feel annoyed or as if anyone can hear your conversation. Great, popular spot for brunch!"

"When I first entered it was very noisy but seemed to calm down a little once we were served. I am glad we stuck it out because it is some of the best, unique food in the area. Our server was fantastic and I have only good things to say about the place. I will be back again in the next week as I think this might me my new hang out."

"I had the fried chicken and was loving it, but remembered a few years ago that the dish had a honey type sauce that came with it. When I asked the waiter he brought some of it out - and it makes the dish even better. Be sure to ask for it, because they don't serve it together anymore and only bring it out if you ask for it. My friend ordered the egg sandwich, which I thought was strange since we were there for dinner. But I tasted it and found out quickly that I would eat that at any meal. Can't wait to go back and try out even more food."

"Took my 90+ mother there for fried wings and champagne....thought it would be too noisy for her but SHE LOVED IT. She also said she would not want to do it on a weekly basis, but once a month would be fine with her. LOL! Great service...food...champagne! Thanks Max!"

"Overall, the experience was good. I was not pleased that Max's Wine Dive accepted my reservation for 6 people, but stuck us in a tight booth with little to no room for comfort. They should not accept reservations for larger gropus if they can't seat that many together and/or comfortably."

"Our second time to enjoy Max's which does feel like an upscale dive with a good wine list. The famous Southern Fried Chicken which has been touted in Travel & Leisure as the best in America does not disappoint but if one does not like spicy, this is probably not the dish to order. The chicken is juicy, great spicy crust with flavorful, spicy collard greens and mashed potatoes. The sweet honey based gravy left me wanting some cream gravy but I still came away happy. My dining partner had a fabulous deep dish pizza " I Like Mine This Way" which was made with pancetta and other goodies. He said it was worth repeating.
We really prefer to sit at the bar here because the music is so loud , it is the only way we can converse during dinner."

"This restaurant has been on my radar for a long time, but I finally went on Saturday and it was phenomenal. I had the Creme Bruless French Toast which I think was the best French Toast I've ever had, and the rest of my family had the omelettes and the "RVP" (Red Velvet Pancakes), which looked equally amazing. I would also highly recommend the grapefruit juice mimosas - they're even better than your standard orange juice mimosas. The restaurant is small, so it doesn't hurt to make a reservation, but it has a great ambience and the service was excellent. All in all I definitely recommend Max's and will be coming back here soon!"

"I love the food! The chicken, max 'n cheese, nacho oysters & appetizer onion rings are downright addictive. I just have to order carry out from now on because it's definitely a "hang out" spot for adults & not a family restaurant (I know, "wine" in the name of the restaurant should have been my hint!). I'm usually having dinner with my 6 year old daughter but our "dinner time" is Max's happy hour ...complete with loud music & lots of alcoholic drinks being served. I'm not saying anything bad about the restaurant. I love the restaurant but it just doesn't work for us to dine-in. My daughter also loves to eat the chicken or the shrimp. Hats off to the chef!"

"Made a reservation for 8, called the restaurant twice to confirm our party was 8, not 6. Yet we were seated at a booth that was made for 4-6 people. We made due. Waiter was rude and condescending. Long wait times. A 2 top table that came in 30 minutes after we did had their food served before our order was taken. The food was good, not exceptional, and certainly not worth being corralled like cattle into a small table only to be ignored by the burnt out and disgruntled wait staff."

"Max's had an energetic, friendly vibe! We dined at the bar and received exceptional service. The wine list was extensive and the recommendations were spot on. Our only disappointment was in the food overall. Although the menu was creative and provided a nice variety the depth of flavors were simply not there.
We dined on several items, including the oysters, cheese bread, fried chicken and pork chop. Presentation was lovely and the food was cooked well but again the seasoning fell short.
Overall we would definitely visit Max's again for the amazing vibe and wine list but we would order less and try different items."

"First time I tried the place a couple of years ago they brought a small table from outside and placed in back hall to accommodate our RESERVATION. We just left. I decided to try again because I like the one in Austin. Slow service. Asked the "I'm too cool to write stuff down but not smart enough to remember the order" waiter twice if he would prefer to take just drink order or both drinks and food. He, of course, wanted both. After we got one appetizer from non-waiter server he stopped by to ask if one appetizer was an entree and when advised it was not he walked off. We got it, undercooked, a little bit later. Then the main course. When ordering, I had a simple request---no aioli. Got aioli. 5 minutes later he comes by. No apology."

"I had the gluten free lasagna, which was fantastic! I devoured the whole thing, and downed it with a nice cabernet. My husband had the chicken breasts with wild mushroom risotto with truffle oil. "This place is nice inside. The food is good, but it is a bit pricey, $8.00 for cornbread. The parking situation is the biggest draw back to this place. I was lucky to get a spot after having to move three times. Providing a place to park in the back fo the place would be great and create less of a hassle for the customer."

"Maxs is staple in my book of a restaurants. They provide an energetic atmosphere, great food and wonderful service. Speaking of the food...they always provide something that is unique, and a taste that blows me away. I always try to bring guests that visit out of town here so they can experience one of Houstons finest gems! I first started coming to the Houston location about seven years ago and since then have been to the Dallas location. Love Maxs!"

"My wife and I generally do the same 2 or 3 things on our date nights so I wanted to do something a little different. I spent a large time of my evening looking at different places around down town Houston online and readng reviews. My wife loves to try differen types of wine and when I read the great, and some not so good, reviews on Max Wine Dive I decided it was the place for us. Everything about this place was outstanding. The service was great, our server was very knowledgeable on the menu items including the wine, and every employee we spoke to was extremely friendly. The service was quick, the food was fantastic and we were both very happy with our experience there. We will be visiting again in the future."

"As a first time guest I must say I was delighted and highly impressed! Prior to visiting, I had heard so many good things about the restaurant. It was refreshing to finally find a restaurant that lived up to the hype! The wife and I are definitely looking forward to going back!"

"I suppose if you are very young and like loud music, this might be your spot. The wine list was nice, and we had a glass, and would have liked to try the menu, but the music was so loud and obnoxious we had to leave."

"Some of the best chicken and collard greens ever. It was so good my friend and I returned on Sunday for brunch. I also had the fried egg sandwich and that was wonderful. My friend got the lasagna and it was at least 7 layers, huge serving and delicious. The waiter told us the lasagna takes 72 hours to prepare. I'd highly recommend, but get a reservation, they were packed both days."

"This is the second time I've made a (confirmed) reservation at a restaurant but there was no table available for us when we arrived. We had to wait about 10 mins plus minus. The fried chicken was good and tasty and worth a try! A very extensive wine list, hence the name. On the other hand, we found the mussels to be not as fresh as other restaurants we've tried around the area and the veal dish to be moderate. We may return to the restaurant but maybe for pre-dinner / post dinner drinks or if we crave for friend chicken."

"For those diners that like wine as well as good food, Max's Wine Dive is a place to try. It's informal setting and attentative staff help the diner "find" what he or she likes. The dining room is energetic, but not so noisy that diners can't converse with each other. The food is "quirky down home" food, mostly simple, ordinary ingredients such as eggs, bacon, grits, various breads, greens, etc,. combined in "over-the-top" ways. The wine selection was extensive but not overwhelming, with mostly boutique wines to choose from. The decor added to the "fun factor" with many humorous lines posted in various formats on all walls. I enjoyed my fiirst experience at Max's, & I will do it again."
