JoJo offers relaxed yet elegant dining on two floors of a quaint, turn-of-the-century brownstone on the Upper East Side. The first of Jean-Georges’ restaurants in New York City, this neighborhood gem opened in 1991 to rave reviews. It was voted best new restaurant of the year by Esquire magazine and has retained its three-star status from the New York Times for 21 years. Regarding the name, JoJo was Chef Jean-Georges’ nickname as a young boy. Jojo is a hospitable setting for a casual dinner, special occasion, or private party. Guests can feel comfortable in jeans or in evening attire. The contemporary French menu still features some well-loved original dishes, including the Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake.

"We went on one of the busiest days of the year (Mother's Day) and even though the kitchen was clearly stressed we had a great family dinner. This is a five star restaurant on a regular day when you don't have to wait 45 minutes between courses. Our server was wonderful and the food was first rate. We had to leave before dessert but she made sure my wife tasted a special merengue encapsulated sorbet (she is still taking about it). We have put JoJo on our list of best restaurants."

"My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here last Saturday night and we were looking for great food in a relaxed but elegant atmosphere, and we were not disappointed at JoJos. The service was highly professional and anxious to meet our needs. The food was a cut above: I had a black bass in a citrus sauce with lemon butter that was outstanding. They were able to easily accomodate my requests for gluten-free dining. Yes: the meal was expensive, but was worth the splurge for a fun and relaxed evening for foodies."

"My wife and I chose JoJo because of its setting and the fact that it is a Jean-Georges restaurant. Everything was wonderful. Although slightly cramped at the entrance the restaurant is cozy and noise levels very low. The food was excellent and the service was observant and efficient, but never intrusive.

"Beware of the upstairs table next to the service door. It combines the disadvantages of proximity to an AC grid blowing cold air over the table and a view into a service room that shares the same degree of sophistication as a backstreet diner. Be prepared to wear your coat throughout dinner. The question is - Is this table reserved for opentable reservations while the locals enjoy warmer and prettier environs?"

"This was my second time at this spot. THe first time, I brought my family there for my parents' 60th anniversary. This time, I came back with my mom in-law and sister in-law for mom in-law's birthday. THis place fits the bill for a special occasion. There are heavy toile curtains everywhere you look, so it really feels like a cozy french restaurant. The menu has a simply cooked portion, and then options with more sauce and seasoning. I like the seasoning. The appetizers are great. I had octopus, and also the salmon sushi--both delicious. The main dishes were fantastic. Desserts-great. The service was friendly, but a bit flat. I recommend this restaurant for a beautiful night out."

"Really superb dinner. Have not been to JoJo's for quite some time and I have really missed their great food. Service and ambiance were terrific. Food actually some of the best I have had in NYC. Had the pea soup and the best veal Milanese I have ever had. On business I travel to Milan 6 to 7 times per year and nothing compares to JoJo' s great preparation. My wife had the asparagus salad and poached lobster. For dessert we shared the banana cake with caramel ice cream. Our wine choice was a very good Sancerre. All in all a great dinner and we highly recommend a visit"

"The server spoke too fast, which affected her enunciation, which was poor. The service was not as attentive as one would hope, not that I would want it to be hovering either. The octopus appetizer was delicious. The lamb chops tasted fine but were not properly prepared--too much fat and grizzle were left on each chop. One of my dinner companions had to send her chops back as she couldn't cut through a very hard piece of grizzle, which points to sloppiness on the part of the chef. The desserts--passion pavlova(sp?) and chocolate cake--were delicious."

"We had a wonderful experience at Jojo's. The warm Asparagus salad is a must. Each bite will give you a new taste experience. The salad is so beautiful, the dressing, divine, the lettuces, magnificent. I can't say enough. The tasting menu was perfect, as well. Not too much food, and beautifully presented.

"Our experience at Jo Jo's was very mixed. The food and presentation was outstanding however the service was very very poor. The hostess and waitress were not very friendly and at times were not attentive to our needs. For a restaurant with a known call a reputation, we were very shocked at the poor service. I was also very disappointed for our anniversary we reserve a nice table upstairs on the second floor. When we got there they indicated that the second floor was closed even though we asked For upstairs and did reserve seats but did not sit there. What they did for us was take two small roundtables jam them together and pushed in the corner was not very suitable. I think they lacked overall restaurant management and direction :"

"Found this little place online and read all the great reviews so reserved for a Friday night. I had asked for a window table since it was a birthday dinner and they gave us one. The location was great, such a darling little side street and so beautiful inside. We did have to wait a bit for our reservation which was a little cramped in the entrance. Wine selection fab and great price range! Cocktails were delish, food was a little salty but overall we loved it. They brought out the dessert with a candle and a Happy Birthday plaque, perfect!"

"My first visit. Chose the restaurant because it looked so charming. Unforunately the upstairs (which is most charming with windows that open to the street) was not open that evening. However, the lower level is very sweet as well. Chose one of the tasting menus, though it was difficult because so many items sounded wonderful. Totally enjoyed all of it and will definitely return with a reservation for upstairs."

"Enjoyed our meal at JoJo. The spring pea soup was wonderful, as was the roasted cod with vegetables. My friend enjoyed the peeky toe crab and the Black Sea Bass. Service was a bit spotty. Waited awhie for tea which, when it arrived was chamomile rather than English breakfast - a big difference for a black tea drinker. I phoned ahead for a candle in my friend's dessert - it was a birthday celebration. This did not happen - explanation was that they'd thought I'd said in my "son's" dessert since my friend was clearly not my "son" they demurred. Ultimately brought us a third dessert "on the house" but who needs a third dessert? At any rate, the food was very good. Tables are a bit tight & ours was very wobbly."

"Our appetizer and main dishes were excellent. The dessert left much to be desired. Service was excellent. Our reservation was for 9 pm and even at that time there were a number of young children in the restaurant. In fact the table next to us had two young children who were quite noisy. This kind of dampened my experience."

"Went for Easter Brunch. Horrible experience. We were stuffed in a dark back room, and when we requested one of the open tables in the main room, we were denied. We were in an empty back room next to the kitchen, where the waitstaff would sling our dishes down as if we were eating in a prison lunchroom. The food was mediocre at best- maybe because it was a holiday... When we requested fruit for dessert, our waitress said they had to ration the fruit and offered nothing without sugar as a substitute. A manager could not be found- maybe it was his/her day off? Bad timing. As we left, the hostesses asked us how our experience was and when we told them how disappointed we were, they apologized. Nothing more. Nobody cared. Never again."

"Enjoyed dinner here with spouse and mother-in-law. Excellent food, very good service, never hurried, music level lets you easily hold a conversation. Really impressed the MIL, thank goodness. I can see why JoJo has been so successful for years. Definitely not a "scene", but you'll get a civilized meal for about $80."

"Stunning. I am in love with decor and service was good!

"Very good food. However, one person in the party was handicapped and asked for seating that did not have a banquette. Though there were other tables, the hostess was not flexible until a server made a suggestion. It made me feel very uncomfortable."
