"Food preparation was back in form from our last visit - outstanding. The service is slightly off - food going to the wrong tables, brioche being brought too early for foie gras, wine service after the course was almost completed. We also ordered the special mushroom dish in lieu of the 1st course - but were still charged an extra $10.
I think Colby & Megan need to spend a little more time working the service issues at Bluestem instead of spending time at their new restaurant."

"We were celebrating our daughter's 25th birthday. The options are 3 - 5 or 10 course tasting menus. We chose the 5 courses. The selections were outstanding. Between the three of us, we had baramundi, steak and chicken entrees. None of them disappointed. The service very attentive. The ambience was understated and warm that allowed for easy conversation. With the 5 courses plus chef's complimentary items, we could not believe that our dining took 2 1/2 hours. The time seemed to pass effortlessly. All in all a very pleasant dining experience."

"It had been a while since we had been to Bluestem, through no fault of theirs. It seems they've tightened up their menu a bit, which is fine. They offer more little tastes and lagniappes than they previously did. They are still on top of their game; the food was uniformly excellent to very good, although the asparagus and beef dishes stood out for us. Highly recommended for a special occasion!"

"Bluestem is definitely an expensive restaurant. But if you can afford it, it is worth it, honestly. It has to be for a special occasion but the staff there is really taking care of you, perfect timing all the time, for the wine, the food, service and gentle words time to time. It is classy but really cool at the same time. They're adapting their service to you and your feelings. Food is great, taste of it unbelievable and combinations which make difference between restaurant and that kind of restaurant. We've been there for our anniversary - first year of marriage - they offered specials, small but tasty in between our plates. Very good experience !"

"Don't be discouraged when you walk in the door and find a darkish, wood-floor-needs-scrubbing, run-down-velvety bar scene with TV... make a right and the ambience shifts. Great for brunch with other adults. Tasty, well-prepared food (I rarely eat home fries because they are too oily but Bluestem's are to die for!). Timely, effective, non-obstrusive service. Tablecloths and cloth mapkins a plus."

"The best food and the best dining experience that I have ever had. And, the single most expensive meal that I have ever had. To me, it is sad that such a wonderful restaurant has such a ridiculous price tag.
We chose the five course meal with wine pairings. The dishes were fabulous although I would have said that the wagu hanger steak was under-seasoned -- need salt. The wine pairings were fabulous and well chosen.
Service was impeccable. The chefs came out and met with a few tables but not ours. I assume that those were regulars. From the outside, you would never guess that such a restaurant was housed within.

"We had Sunday brunch at Bluestem -- our first time there. Though the weather wasn't particularly inviting, our experience at Bluestem couldn't have been better. We had a very accommodating waiter. Food was excellent and plentiful. Coffee was some of the best I've ever had. I was a little surprised at how small the dining area is, but our table was spacious and comfortable. All in all, a very pleasurable experience for us."

"This was my second visit to Bluestem over the past year. I'd be a regular diner there but I don't live in Kansas City. This is among my very favorite restaurant in a town that has more than a handful of top-notch fine dining choices. The menu is the most inventive in Kansas City and all you should do is go to their website and have a look at their menu to see if this restaurant would appeal to you. I have no doubt that this is among the best of the best that KC has to offer.
As for the service, everything from the reservation confirmation to the greeting at the door to the table service was first rate.
PS. Their foie gras is out of this world!"

"A wonderful dining experience. Food and service were excellent. Its located in the Westport district of Kansas City down the street and away from the bar scene. The appearance is not what you would expect from the outside. The prices are the highest I have ever paid for two, and no wine or liquor- over $200 with tip. For a similar dining experience in Seattle I paid about $50 less. Nevertheless this may be the classiest dining experience you will find in Kansas City."

"My wife and I went for valentine's day, it was an excellent experience. The food was amaingly unique and the service was extremely attentive without being intrusive. This is definately only the more expensive side ($180 with 20% tip and only drinking water) but it is well worth the experience! Highly recommend!"

"This is a special place if you want to spend an evening enjoying the pleasures of the palette. My favorites remain all the treats around the entrees. The amuse bouches are wonderful little flavorful bites, and the soups and salads are expecially tasty. The smoked potato soup is a real must. Five courses goes a long ways to sampling lots of different items. Be prepared to make this your night's activity."

"We came in for an early Valentine's day and ordered the 10 course with wine pairing. It was quite the experience! The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. I have never seen a staff exhibit such teamwork and coordination! The wine pairings were spot on and we loved trying the new and exciting dishes. Definitely a must see spot!"

"Certainly some of the greatest cuisine in the Midwest and maybe the country. Very high food standards. Many imaginative dishes executed perfectly. However, personally the style of food is bit too French and nouveau for me. So this is not a criticism, simply a difference of style, since I tend towards more rustic Italian cuisine. Very comfortable and elegant setting along with careful and attentive service."

"We arrived at 9:00 for a later night dinner. We were very, very excited to have the opportunity to dine at such a well reviewed restaurant. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The quality of the food surpassed our already high expectations. There were only a couple of minor misteps in the pace of the meal. But the kitchen generously sent out extra courses so it's difficult to find much fault with that. We did find the dining room a bit too cool and in fact my wife wore her coat draped over her shoulders most of the meal. We did notice other patrons wearing extra layers also, so I think turning the thermostat up a couple of degrees would've enhanced the overall experience. That said, the next time we visit KC, we hope to return."

"Wow. We've been wanting to come to Bluestem and took our first opportunity during restaurant week. While tiny, this gem comes with a large punch! All the little extras really make this special. From the amuse bouches to the after dinner delights, the offerings were wonderful pieces of flavor and art. This night, the smoked potato soup was the favorite, alhough the ranch steak was superbly prepared. We'll be back for sure."

"We were there for Sunday Brunch. The menu offered somewhat basic selections usually with a slight twist. What was served though, was a masterpiece. My friends ordered off the menu and were thrilled with their selection. I like to live a little more adventurously and ordered the special. I as so glad that I did. The sweet potatoe hash was different and so flavorful.
