Our goal at Insalata's has always been to bring luscious Mediterranean food, gracious service and a warm atmosphere to our diners. For over 15 years we have shared this experience of intimate dining and joyful celebrations in a variety of ways. First and foremost as a fine dining restaurant with our beautiful private Siena room in which to sit and relax and enjoy a meal. We also offer take out dining for those days when time is of the essence, or catered affairs where we bring great food and staff into your home or venue. Our guests have become family and we have grown together in the community in which we all live and work. Everyone at Insalata's is extremely proud to be a part of this extended "village" family.

"The menu has a nice variety of offerings. I ordered the salmon, which was delicious. My husband had a vegetarian dish that was very good too. What made our meal especially nice was the kids menu. Our 6-year-old was very happy with his chicken skewers and french fries. It's hard to find a place where you can have a nice meal and please your kid. Insalata's worked for everyone. My son especially enjoyed his "Pigs in the Mud" dessert!"

"Insalata's is the best restaurant in Ross Valley (Greenbrae/Kentfield/Ross/San Anselmo), so their everyday fare is very good. For Mother's Day every year they pull out the stops and make a meal worth remembering. It's so good that it has become our family tradition to go to Insalata's for the Mother's Day Brunch."

"Yummy!!
An eclectic assortment of hot and cold dishes -- from scrambled eggs with bacon, to a roasted lamb (loin? leg?) with middle eastern seasonings that was fabulous, and from a farro platter with walnuts and apricots that was amazing, to brilliant green asparagus, and wonderful assortment of "finger" size desserts that were all baked at Insalata's.
Two things spoiled an otherwise perfect Mother's Day brunch. The hot dishes weren't hot. And our server seemed to be somewhat inattentive during the first half of our meal.
All-in-all, the criticisms are minor. My wife and I were very pleased with our holiday visit to Heidi's place -- one of the best experiences we've had with Mother's Day outings."

"I took two girlfriends here for their birthday lunch celebration. I thought it was very good. The shrimp salad that I ordered was delicious. Both my friends ordered pasta dishes and they really enjoyed them. My only complaint would be that the service was a bit slow but it did give us time to talk and catch up. I would recommend this restaurant and will go back again."

"Insalata's has been around for so long we tend to forget about it. But no matter how much time goes by between visits, we find it as welcoming and delicious as ever. Consistent is the word I would apply. When I complimented the server on the excellent bulgur wheat pilaf, he arrived later with the restaurant's cookbook open to that page. Very thoughtful! My one concern was the soup: when asked if the asparagus/fennel soup of the day had cream in it, the server said "just a touch." It turned out to be a classic cream of asparagus soup, quite rich. If we had known that, we would not have ordered it. Also, the otherwise-good texture was marred by bits of asparagus fiber, telling me the soup had not been put through the mouli."

"My biggest complement for Insalata goes to our waitperson who very quickly took the temperature of the table and could see that my 14 year old daughter was headed for a meltdown and tailored our meal to accommodate her every need.
While most people were there for a casual dinner - It was my birthday and dinner at a nice restaurant mid-week was an event for us. The waiter made us feel so special.
The food came very quickly and my salmon was PERFECTLY prepared...it was really quite spectacular. My friend's sole was also quite good and my daughter enjoyed her pasta. We also had some lovely appetizers.
I do think the atmosphere is a little boring but what I did appreciate was the sound level...we did not have to strain to hear or be heard."

"I always enjoy Insalata's a lot and take visitors there. The food is creatively conceived and very well prepared. The staff is friendly, helpful and not overbearing. While I am definitely not a vegetarian, I often order their vegetarian plate because it is often tastier than the other things on the menu. My main criticism is that the menu is somewhat limited in scope and, given that, doesn't change as often as it should. That's one reason I don't go there more often."

"As always, food was very good. The chicken fatoush salad is very tasty. Excellent dessert - a Greek orange cake in a lovely sauce. However, our wait person was very "in your face" about almost everything. She has waited on us before and always a bit like that but more intrusive, and almost combative about everything. Our friends were unhappy that a charge of $2.50 was made for each order of sprite (they both had three during the 2 1/2 hours we were at lunch. They asked the Manager to take it off the bill, and she very graciously did so. We will continue to refer this very good restaurant to others. The cookies we took out from the bakery were excellent!"

"So sad to write this review. Insalatas was our favorite brunch place but definitely went to the bottom of the list after this visit. Not sure if its new staff and chef, but service was incredibly slow and preparation/quality of food had declined. "Insalata's is our go to place when we want special occasion great food and service. We've been going for years and NEVER been disappointed, whether it be brunch, lunch or dinner. We can't sing its praises enough! The food is always consistently delicious, and the wait staff considerate and accommodating. The wine list is impressive and we've never been leadastray by staff recommendations. This time, my husband's dinner entree was delevered just a little later than the rest of us, and the waiter brought a complimentary dip and pita bread while he was waiting. Insalata's is this kind of place."

"One of the things I like best about Insalata's is that the menu isn't so vast that you get lost in it. Instead there are just enough wonderful options to easily make a selection that suits your cravings. From appetizers through dessert, our meal was impeccable. Our waitress made an excellent wine recommendation and offered us amazing service."

"Our server could not have been better. He was there, attentive without being overbearing and helpful. Quintessential service.
Wines included with dinner were mediocre. Kind of had the feeling this was a good opportunity to rid shelves of overstock. Perhaps one glass of better wine would be better than 2 of lesser quality."

"This was my first visit to Insalata's, and I had no idea how wonderful it would be. Everything we had, including the wine pairings suggested by our waitress, was at least excellent, and the overall combination was about as good as it gets ~ truly memorable.

"I am glad that Insalata's has been a Marin Mainstay for all of these years. Although pricey, the service and food and atmosphere are good and consistent. This restaurant is not for folks on a budget. Lunch for two will easily run $50.00 w/ tip, and they charge a 2.00 fee to park in their lot. I found this annoying, but I am sure there are many others who appreciate the convenience in an area where parking spaces can be scarce. Overall, there are other restaurants I would choose in Marin at this price range."
