From the creators of The Gage comes Henri — energetically American, French influenced. Heralded as an "instant classic", Henri offers fine dining without pretention.
Under the direction of Executive Chef Chris Gawronski, Henri’s menu is influenced by the refining principles of classical cuisine. Innovative dishes like kampachi crudo join traditional favorites such as foie gras, steak tartare, Dover sole and ribeye au poivre. The tasting menu highlights the bounty of the season, accompanied by perfectly paired wines by sommelier Jason Wagner. The carefully curated wine list is almost exclusively biodynamic, while cocktails are both creative and classic.

"We were celebrating an occasion but would dine at Henri often. But on this night we ordered many course & bottle of wine. We completely enjoyed deliberating our choices with Richard--he really listened. In the end, we enjoyed fabulous food. As to the food, I felt that creative impact was everywhere, sometimes bold, sometimes quiet and never simply showy, In fact this place reminded me most nearly of one in Lelavandou, France."

"This lovely French restaurant is a foodie delight in the heart of Chicago. Not only was the food wonderful, the experience reminded our party ( Francophiles) of many dinners in France. Right down to the ironing of the table cloths. A must try were the lobster salads and they have a treat for foie gras fans. We did not sample the caviar this visit, but were pleased to see this on the menu. We are definitely planning to come back the next time we are in the Windy city!"

"Henri is a lovely, serene, relaxing upscale restaurant in the midst of a bustling area on Michigan Avenue. Nice outdoor eating area at the front, overlooking Millenium Park. A perfect place to eat pre or post symphony, theater or an Art Institute visit; easily walk from Henri to Symphony Center, the Art Institute, Bank of America theater. None of the entrees looked particularly appealing to us that evening (and they are rather pricey), so my husband and I had spring vegetable potage (soup), the mussels & clams appetizer, the scallops appetizer and the brussels sprouts & gouda flatbread "pizza." All of these dishes were outstanding; and so filling that we couldn't even eat half of the flatbread. Service is refined and attentive."

"We had a very nice lunch. The food was very good, but my portion of salmon ($24) was 3-4 oz. at most, and the "salad" that accomopanies it was on top. Literally 9/10 of the plate was devoid of food, but was covered in various sauces. While it looked and tasted great, I was hoping to get something more filling, at least in terms of the salad. My guest had a Coque Monsieur and said it was very good. His food was literally 4x the amount of mine (and also less expensve in terms of price and cost)."

"Great dinner. Rabbit and duck were phenomenal. Were too full to try the dessert menu but the table next to us looked great. Meal flow was faster than expected and we were out in plenty of time for 8pm show with a 6pm reservation"

Of course being a non meat eater we had hoped for more vegetarian and fish choices, but they were very much able to accommodate us in a nice way. Wine selection is great. "Visiting Chicago on many occasions, I've been unable to get a last minute reservation at Henri which had been recommended to me by many. This trip I was successful and got to celebrate my birthday with a very good Chicago friend. From the warm greeting upon arriving, to the friendly service and exceptional food it was a perfect evening. As an appetizer we shared a flat bread with pear, surprising flavors and very good. We both had duck, perfectly prepared. We enjoyed the classic atmosphere, linen tablecloths and intimate feeling."

"Loved the decor - elegant and beautiful. Thought the quality of the food was only ok - I had the salade nicoise and the tuna had no flavor at all, there were very very few items in the salad and I don't particularly care for frise lettuce. Aside from that, the pizzas were very good."

"I took my wife to celebrate her 50th and we had a wonderful and romantic dinner together. We were fortunate that the weather was great because just about everyone else was sitting outside while we chose to stay nestled in the restaurant with only 2 other couples. Our 6 course tasting meal was perfect and the wine pairings were perfect. Our waiter Andy made sure that we were well attended to but never overstayed. The Somolier did a fine job with the wine pairings and we were fortunate to meet the owner, Billy Wallace, who made sure we got a great complimentary dessert paired with a great dessert wine as well! I highly recommend Henri for a special occasion; they even wished my wife Happy Birthday on her own specially printed menu!"

"We had an 8.30 reservation. We'd planned drinks next door in the Gage first (great bar) so I popped into Henri to check on the table at 8.30. They were running a little late so asked could they call. I said no problem as we were not in a rush. Well, 25 minutes later the owner on Henri came to say our table was ready, apologies for the delay and could he buy us a drink first. We declined. When we got to Henri he offered a glass of champagne and a free appetizer. None of it was necessary but a personal touch that makes a difference. As for Henri's food- have the tartare- delicious. And then the bouillabaisse- perfect. We'll be back!"

"This notable restaurant has been written up several times as one of Chicago's best. Our experience was not that. But certainly good. We ordered the rib-eye which came extremely well seasoned and very flavorable.. But also extremely fatter. I understand that rib-eye is a fibrous piece of meat but I could eat 1/3 of it. I asked the temp to be medium but really came rare. All this for $52, the waiter appeared inexperienced by constantly interrupting us by kept asking us if we were ready.. Serious talking which he didn't didn't pick up on.."

"This restaurant was much anticipated by us, and we ordered lavishly. The 52 dollar Dover sole was a huge disappoiment, tiny and dry piece of fish plus some rolled version of same, which was unremarkable and unmemorable. Everything else was delicious, and the staff accommodating."

"As a diner, and restaurant owner, I do not fill these out as I do use Opentable all the time.. Henri is hands down my new favorite restaurant in Chicago. Food and service are like nothing to be found, hospitality was on point as they made sure our night was a memorable one. Tim the GM went above and beyond to handle our engagement. We will definitely be back, thank you Henri!"

"We split the lobster tail and salad, and the foie gras for appetizer, both were excellent and beautifully presented. For dinner, I had the roasted duck breast that was very good, i prefer it with crispy skin , I don't remember what my husband had, but he loved it. Beautiful restaurant."

"I appreciate Henri's especially because of its proximity to Gage (I understand both are owned by the same people) I think Gage has good food, but the noise level is painful. Going next door to Henri's is like visiting a parallel world, a quieter one with excellent food. I especially like the pizza which has a rather difficult name, the one made with salted pear. Speaking of salt: the hamburger had way too much. The service was very pleasant and when I admired the quality of the chocolates, I was given the last two left over for lunch. Thanks"

"We have eaten at Henri two times. The food is delicious. The $95 tasting menu is outstanding and a great buy. The only issue I have is during our last visit (4/12), we felt the room was a bit noisy. This is a smallish, elegant space, but the room was full and with there being no separation between the dining area and the bar makes the noise from the bartender making drinks and energetically shaking martinis annoying & takes away from the otherwise special experience."

"Elegant but not stuffy atmosphere. Friendly and personable staff, very patient as we took our time enjoying our celebration. The food was outstanding. The wine service was helpful with recommendations for our food pairing. Interesting how the sommelier shows the bottle, takes it away to open it and test it on her own first away from the table. I would have been happy to allow her a sip, just find it especially odd that I'm not deserving of that first sip to discern whether or not it's good. Would definitely return regardless of this mild irritant."

"From the moment you enter Henri you feel welcome and special. Everyone on staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and intent on making our dinner a wonderful experience. The food was exquisite. "Henri continues to perform at a high level and is a great choice for a pre-theater meal if you are attending a play in the Theater District. Simply let them know when you have to leave and they will coordinate everything with you so the meal is served to meet your schedule. They can get you in and out fairly quickly of they must, but I suggest that you give yourself plenty of time to enjoy a nice, relaxing meal. This is a little gem of a French restaurant - not a fast food joint!"

"We caught an early dinner and we were looking to expand our wallets a bit for a night out. We splurged for a full course meal that included appetizer, entree, and dessert. All the plates were visually appealing and the food was good. My girlfriend call the ribeye the best steak she has ever eaten, so that made the meal worth it alone. With tip our bill was just over 200, so just be aware. It is an elegant setting right along Michigan Ave and convenient to everything downtown."
