The Wild Orchid Cafe
Welcome to pure and local food at The Wild Orchid Cafe and Catering in Annapolis, Maryland. Owners Chef Jim Wilder and Karen Wilder want you to feel at home and become a part of the ever growing family of friends, staff and fine food and wine vendors. Originally located in Eastport for 16 years The Wild Orchid made the transition to the Downtown Annapolis Arts District at Westgate Circle to service their community better offering comfortable large dining areas, a top chef kitchen and 2 large group private dining areas. The biggest change is the full service lounge offering happy hour and daily specials and a fully secured free covered parking garage. Our menu is fresh, hearty and Local, featuring regional favorites, steaks, game and fresh seafood all prepared with the famous Wild Orchid artistry. We're also known for our award-winning wine selection and irresistible desserts. And don't miss the Wild Orchid Lounge, on its way to becoming one of the areas favorite watering holes.

"After having a great time Sunday for the Mother's Day Brunch I talked my weekly dining group into trying The Wild Orchid's regular dinner menu. We were not disappointed. Food was excellent. Our server was fun and knowledgeable but not overwhelming. All in all, for visiting a place twice in the same week I was very impressed both times. The Wild Orchid is now a staple in our dining rotation."

"We went for Mother's Day and the food was great. My mother totally enjoyed it. We all cleaned our plates. This is my third time. My sister particularly enjoyed the old jazz vocals (Billie Holiday, Etta James) playing softly in the background. Really enjoyable afternoon."

"We came for the Mother's Day brunch. They crammed extra tables in the dinning room such that you were eating elbow to elbow with strangers. The quality of the food was sub-par. The vegetable frittata had a very overcooked egg wrapped around dry vegetables. It was chewy and tasteless. The Eggs Chesapeake had little hollandaise sauce and virtually no crab, served atop rock hard English muffins. The seafood strudel was passable.The quality of the desserts pretty much followed suit. The lemon blueberry bread pudding was burnt and bland. The creme brulee was eggy, not like a custard The strawberry rhubarb pie could have used a little more sugar and perhaps some lemon zest to brighten the taste. Overall, a very disappointing experience."

"This was my 4th visit. Drinks were a problem (grapefruit martini was horrible after one sip; coke was flat). Server-Mike made all the difference, as he was quick to make changes to please and was always attentive. Crab cakes were good, lamb was tasty; salmon seemed a little bland (maybe more spices would help). The deserts (triple chocolate cheesecake, strawberry rhubarb pie) was a great top-off to the Mother's Day special. Service was key on this day. I always like the convenient, uncrowded location and free garage parking."

"The food was great! The service was a little slow but I'll say it was worth the wait. Our waiter was way to chatty with the table near us which may have been the reason for the slowed service. I made a point of not engaging him in too much conversation so as not to delay our food any longer than necessary. All in all, a great experience and my Mom really enjoyed herself.
One suggestion for the restaurant is for better signage directing patrons to the parking garage. It's a little confusing driving around that Circle trying to figure out where to park."

"Special menu for brunch. The berry crepes were really good and the triple chocolate cheesecake was the table favorite. Our waiter was a little harried but apologized for lag times and other servers stopped with a smile to help out. Don't know that they usually do such a booming business for brunch as every wait person there seemed to be moving at top speed under duress. Would return again on a non-event sunny day to try dining outside under the trees."

"The restaurant has a great location and very nice atmosphere. Seems like it's struggling with management - getting people in, getting food out, that sort of thing. I know good food takes a while, it takes even longer here. Wait staff seemed frazled.
The food is creative, wholesome, beautifully presented. The restaurant has great potential."

"We had reservations at 6 for a Saturday night. The restaurant was almost empty and we were seated right across from the noisy kitchen. I decided not to complain but I should have. Waiter claimed they were overloaded because everyone showed up at the same time. An unknown woman is a Tshirt took a menu from us saying they needed more for arriving guests. Some tables had entree's delivered before we even were served a scrap of bread which came promptly after the soup some 40 minutes into our "meal". With all that said the food was good. The delivered Entree's had sides that didn't match the menu but were still tasty. We barely made our 8pm show just down the street. I would never recommend this restaurant. There are far too many better choices"

"Starting with the Oysters Rockerfeller and Butternut Squash Soup, we got off to a great start. The mussels were excellent also. We enjoyed the fresh warm bread that kept being delivered during our meal. No one was disappointed with their lunch selection. The lump cake meat crab cakes on the platter and in the sandwich were the best any of us had ever had. The sweet pea ravioli was a big hit. The salmon quiche was delicious. The gyro was also great. We had enjoyed the food so much that we didn't have room for dessert, but we are sure the desserts would have been excellent also."

"My husband and I were meeting some friends for dinner, we got there a little early so they suggested we have a drink at the bar. The bar top was a little messy, with straw wrappers and used napkins. I got a glass of wine which was fine, my Husband got a cocktail which he said was a little watery. We were seated, and at least 15 minutes went by without our friends getting a drink or even our water glasses being filled. The server came by finally, but then had to go find a drink menu. Our beer and wine glasses were empty at several points and we had to track down the server to get a new drink. We were planning to get a whole meal but decided after the appetizers we couldn't wait much longer."

"We have been to the restaurant three times in the past year, and have been disappointed two of the three times. The ambiance is mediocre at best, and the food is average to below average. We will not go back again..... There are too many other restaurants to choose from at this price range that are much better..."

"I could enjoy lunch at Wild Orchid for the Wild Orchid salad alone! A very reasonably priced entree-size salad with a delightful mix a flavors, thanks to the fresh strawberries and Danish bleu cheese. Their butternut squash soup with crabmeat is a trade mark offering that can't be missed. The lunch menu provides ample variety for al palettes, with prices that still keep a very classy lunch under $20."

"We were looking for a new place to try, and I was intrigued by the "locavore" philosophy that appears to be foundational here. Our first experience was very positive. We were able to find same-day reservations for the time that suited us, and we were seated right away. Mark was knowledgable about the menu and wines, and took excellent care of us. The butternut squash soup was nice and thick, but a bit unevenly heated. Our salads were quite tasty, with fresh dressings, though the lettuce seemed a bit past its prime. The beef filet was perfectly cooked, and the pork tenderloin was absolutely delicious. The chocolate torte was wonderful, but the hardened mousse on top was pointless. Good coffee and Scotch whiskey were the perfect finish."

"Not too happy. There was a wedding party going on. Seemed like that took up a lot of their capability. Service was slow. My food when I finally got it had been microwaved. Yes it was easy to tell when you microbe bacon wrapped pork loin it turns grey and the bacon goes to rubber.y wife loved her scallop entree, so we didn't complain. Later our server told us we got stuck behind service for the party and that's why the food was off. And for all that this place is wildly expensive. Twelve dollar martini and they tasted like well liquor. I won't be coming back."

"We had not dined at Wild Orchid in awhile after a not-so-pleasant experience months ago. We felt they deserved another chance and we were quite surprised with the quality of the food. Our server, however, was not knowledgable about the menu or wines. There was an overall lacking of attention to details that prevailed throughout the evening, but when we were presented two perfectly prepared rockfish dinners, we felt that this was a positive experience after all."

A group of friends and I went here during restaurant week, and the food was consistently bad. The steak: a block of tough fat with a little bit of meat that is poorly cooked and lacking in taste. The Flounder: overcooked and tough, wrapped around what tastes like tostito's spinach dip. Even really unique and delicious plates in theory, like butternut squash soup with crab underwhelmed. The service was good, but other than that, I felt the experience to be bland and overpriced. It really doesn't take much to impress me with food, so this is a bad sign for the restaurant."

"I had the flounder from the "Restaurant Week" menu. There was hardly any flounder; it was mostly all creamy stuffing. It was more like creamy stuffy with a hint of flounder.
My husband had the veal breast. It was mostly all fat which was not good.
The soup was good.
The creme brulee was too heavy on the cream aspect and had little sugar crust on top. The apple crisp was barely warm and there was no "crisp" at all. It was all overly lemoned apples with a heavy hand on the cinnamon. I could not eat it.
I have to say your restaurant pleased us much more when you were in Eastport. The food was consistantly very good. We have had a number of poor experiences at your new location. I keep trying; it will be a long time before I"

"Got together 12 family members to celebrate the family and to our surprise when we arrived, had a private room. It was perfect b/c the noise level was better(for the elderly folks in our group), and the room and ability to freely move around with out disturbuing other diners was great for kids who need to stretch their legs and move around a bit! It also enabled us to linger on a bit longer than if we had been seated at a regular table as part of the entire restaurant.
Our waiter was OUT OF THIS WORLD; his name was Brian C., and he was very attentive, well versed in food and made good honest recommendations!
The food was delicious and we loved that fact that it is farm to table! My kids did not leave one dot of food on their plate"

"Our overall experience at The Wild Orchid was so-so. We live just down the street, and has been wanted to stop by for some time, and thought Restaurant Week was a great chance to try the restaurant. After waiting 5 minutes to be acknowledged at the host stand, we were seated for lunch. Another 4 minutes for our server to come over. Although her arrival took longer than I would have liked, she was very friendly. The Bison meatloaf and the Brioche bread pudding were great! The Chicken with apple and brie on roll was pretty bland, and the Apple Crisp was so ladden with spice it was almost inedible. We always welcome a chance to try a new restaurant, but due to the inattention by the staff, and so so food, we will not be returning."

"For a rainy saturday nite, there were many empty tables. We had 7 pm reservations. We were seated promptly. The hostess was helpful. We waited several minutes before our drink order was taken. Our soup and appetizers were tasty. For our entree orders, the duck breast was a little tough and the kids chicken tenders were over-cooked and dry. They quickly made a grilled cheese as a substitute. We were celebrating a birthday in our party and brought a cake. They assisted us with the cake-cutting. Once we got the bill we noticed a $14 charge for cake cutting. Insanely high fee. We used to frequent the original location and loved it. This relocation may have been a bad idea."

"We enjoyed our meal, but did have one unpleasant surprise. It was Valentine's weekend. I'd looked online and seen that they were offering a prix fixe menu. We looked at that menu and thought it overpriced, though we did see several entrees on the regular menu that looked very good and were under $20. I called to ask whether the regular menu was also available. I was told, yes.
When we arrived, the regular menu the waiter gave us did not include any of the items costing under $20 we had seen online. The waiter told us that when they are offering a prix fixe menu, they offer only a "limited" version of their regular menu. I know it was unintentional, but we felt a bit as if there'd been a "bait and switch""

"First visit to The Wild Orchid Cafe. We had reservations for 6 p.m. on a Friday evening. I have a cast on my right leg, so arrived on a knee scooter. Very friendly reception. The hostess offered a pillow for me to rest my cast on, and sat us at the perfect table to accomodate my cast. Service was great -- our server was knowledgeable and friendly.
