Le Colonial is a truly delightful culinary experience. Like stepping into French Colonial Southeast Asia, this two-story restaurant, designed by Greg Jordan, consists of a main dining room with louvered wall panels, colorful tile floors, and vintage photos of Vietnam. Upstairs is an elegant, but lively, lounge serving a full dinner or just appetizers and cocktails. The lounge serves as an ideal setting for private parties and business dinners. Chef Kellie Nguyen-Rabanit serves an authentic Vietnamese menu with an emphasis on fresh seafood, meats, and vegetables.

"Wonderful restaurant. Very authentic and truly spectacular service. Vietnamese when made authentically is too sweet for me so I asked for the salad dressings to be but on the side....and both myself and my dinner partner were happy and immensely satisfied. We will return!"

"I wanted to meet a friend who was staying at the Hudson Hotel, and I live on the Upper East Side, so I thought is would be the perfect in-between. Unfortunately, while the atmosphere was pleasant, it was definitely dated, and although the service was wonderful, the food was not much better than the Vietnamese I get from my usual takeout/delivery spot, which is literally half the price. The dumpling soup was very good, as was the eggplant appetizer. However, the entrees were average. My scallops were too soft and were sliced in half. Clearly, they they think it's ok to charge $25 for 4 half scallops and 3 shrimp atop a bed of glorified coleslaw. My friend's beef skewers were completely lame - could have made them at home. Way overpriced!"

"We've been going here since it opened many years ago,drawn by the wonderful ambiance,gracious service and good food.
More recently there seem to be changes afoot here (altho not in the menu which never seems to change or add specials).
Sadly on our moret recent visits, the food was pretty routine and not up to prior standards."

"We and our visitor from Europe had a wonderful evening at Le Colonial, sitting in our favorite place -- upstairs. Our dinner was delicious: all three of us had duck, which was some of the best we have ever enjoyed. The varied first courses we shared were also delicious. The service was attentive throughout the evening and the meal nicely-paced. We will be returning soon and often!"

"Le Colonial has been on the food scene as long as I can remember, and there is a reason why. Elegantly prepared and presented dishes, classy, romantic atmosphere, top notch staff that is clearly trained, seasoned and remebers that service is a big part of the experience. All at a more than fair price. Great for lunch, brunch or intimate cocktail in the warm upstairs bar. Highly recommended!"

"Wonderful food. Authentic French-Vietnamese with colonial decor. Very attentive wait staff. Only complaint was that they were so efficient that our meal was fast. Would have preferred a more leisurely pace. We did remain at our table for some time talking after and didn't feel rushed out. Would certainly return and would ask for a slower pace. Cozy bar upstairs."

"We ordered a range of appetizers and entrees among the five of us. All were very much enjoyed by the group. Service was uneven. We had to catch the attention of our waiter at every step of the process. If we hadn't flagged him down to place our order, we might still be sitting there. But the team assisting in serving, busing and replacing dropped chopsticks was very attentive."

"Awesome management service. the manager came over a few times and offered to take photos of my gf and i as he saw we wanted to remember the occasion. the wait staff was attentative until it got busy, and then it was a challenge to flag one for the check. Overall, very caring service. Dishes - the pho was average, but just nice presentation and 30% more expensive than a regular bowl. The chicken and mushroom dumplings were light and refreshing. the mushroom sticky rice was filling (1 bowl was enough for both of us). My duck tasted great with crispy skin throughout (although slightly over roasted). The green tea / macha crepes layered cake was awesome (but maybe from Lady M?). Setting was comfy, romantic, and great for drinks and talk."

"An old neighborhood standby I hadnt visited in years. Le Colonial is a steady, reliable resto with decent, interesting choices and makes for a lovely evening. We shared four appetizers ( duck rolls were spectacular) and one main course ; i will devinitely go back, as everything on the menu looked interesting. It's more than a bit noisy,but I guess that adds to the midtown Manhattan experience for some."

"We had eaten at Le Colonial nearly 20 years ago but moved away from the metropolitan area so hadn't returned there until a vacation weekend in the city. It was great to be back. The dining room is very pleasant (though the tables are a bit close together) - the upstairs bar is evocative of the Saigon we lived in 50 years ago. We even found a photograph we remembered from our first visit to the restaurant.
The fried whole snapper was wonderful, as was the duck -- my only criticism is that the sauces, served on the side, were overly sweet.
So glad we came back."

The Cha Gio Vit, crispy 5 spice roasted duck rolls filled with taro, shiitake mushrooms and scallions, were delicious as was the Banh Cuon. The Bun So Diep was exquisite. Grilled lemongrass scallops and shrimp served with vermicelli vegetable salad, lettuce greens, fresh herbs, toasted peanuts and ginger dressing...the scallops were perfectly prepared and the balance of flavors and textures was perfection. I may never be able to eat Bun from the local shop again."

"They have captured nicely the ambience of a French colonial Vietnam. Obviously one could get Vietnamese food elsewhere at a much lower price but the service s good, the dishes were well served and the ginger matins scrumptious. Food was generally good and more authentic than I had expected although some dishes verged on being more Chinese. A lovely, informal, enjoyable place."

"Fantastic place - love the bar and the restaurant. We had a great table, the staff were very attentive without being obtrusive. The food was delicious - so fresh and tasty. All in all a wonderful evening."
