The Derby is more than a restaurant. Established in 1922, it has been family owned and operated since 1951. It is a grand museum showcasing some of horse racing's greatest moments. Diners are invited to take a break from the rush of modern life and travel back to the time of George Woolf, Seabiscuit and relive the excitement of The Race of the Century. We excel in offering the best grades of meat and extremely fresh seafood prepared by our longtime executive chef that would delight even the most discriminating of taste. Some of the menu highlights include the Bacon Wrap Filet, Delmonico New York, Prime Rib and Shrimp Scampi. We offer a wide selection of wines by the bottle and by the glass. Relax and enjoy a fine cognac or single malt scotch on our patio, or take in a sporting event on one of our three new plasma screen television sets. Dining at The Derby can only be compared to the feeling of holding the winning ticket when you smile and know that you made the right bet.
"It's wonderful to have the Derby less than 2 miles from my home. No parking problems, the presentation of the meals reminds me of the Beverly Hillcrest (Top of the Hillcrest) no need to travel for above average dining. The service was good and friendly. Table lighting can be improved to make it easier to read the Wine list and Menu list. Keep up the good job."

"The Derby is a good neighborhood special occasion restaurant that we find more enjoyable than similar segment chain spots. I think its prices are a little bit high, but the food is good, service and ambience are excellent."

"The Derby has become our "go-to" spot for family dinners because it has the diversity on the menu and the service to keep even the most picky family members happy. The noisiest of the rooms are moderate at noise level, and the quietest are even quieter, allowing our table to converse without needing to raise our voices. The wine by the glass list is longer than typical and the list has many good values to offer. It is busy on special days, but well worth planning ahead to get a table."

"Seven of us. A group that size could be difficult, but not here. They are use to handling large celebrations. Waiter was great as was the food. Our fourth time at The Derby and each is better than the last."

"It just doesn't get any better than this. The food is outstanding, although this is not for serious trendy foodies. It is serious steak and potatoes. Pricey, but worth every penny. Never a bad meal."

"Four of us had a lovely time on a Friday night. Server Will was outstanding, very attentive. The only glitsch was a small request with one of the orders; Will was very careful to take it down but the kitchen did not comply. Except for that one thing, the food was very good and we had a thoroughly enjoyable experence. That is the only reason I reated the food with "three stars" instead of higher. Excellent prix-fixe menu as an option at a very good value. This time we opted to bring our own wine instead of select from their list. One of the top steakhouses still."

"My husband and I both enjoyed our meals. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass which just melted in your mouth and was juicy with the tomato and red onion salsa that tops it off. The cheesecake was also fantastic topped with a raspberry/ strawberry sauce. Would definitely dine here again."

"Excellent food with great presentation. The French Onion Soup is still the best! A light eater was delighted with this soup, the enticing garlic bread and shrimp cocktail for dinner. A great place for visiting, as the staff senses your desire and leaves you to visit."

"Overall, we were pretty disappointed. My ribeye was overcooked and not very flavorfull, and my wife's hanger steak, while tender, was covered in a sauce that was downright awful.
The tempura lobster appetizer however was amazing. Unfortunately, that was the only high point, as dessert was about what you'd expect from the frozen section at Ralphs.
There are MUCH better and cheaper options out there for a great steak. The ribeye, and pretty much everything else at Houston's (a chain), is far better than what we had at the Derby.
For what we paid, we could have eaten at Parkway Grill."

"I pass by the Derby all the time and decided to try it. The side room we were seated it seemed a little claustophobic for me. But it was quiet. The main dining area had hlive entertainment (voice and keyboard) which some might enjoy. Nothing on tap, mixed drinks were okay. Steaks were only fair, salads plain - nothing special. Garlic cheese toasted tasty, but limp. I was hoping for a hidden gem to compete with Smitty's, Arroyo Chophouse, etc. The overall bill was less than I would have spent at those places, but the ambiance is tired and the food only fair for the price. Service was very good though."

"My husband and I had dinner at the Derby in celebration of his birthday. Although he had dined there years ago, this was my first dining experience at the Derby (we had been there previously for drinks). Friends told us the service was as amazing as the food and they were right!!! Not only was our food DELICIOUS, but the service was indeed impeccable. Our server, Daniel, did a fabulous job. I would recommend the Derby to everyone!
Thanks again for a wonderful evening!

"the restaurant was moderately busy on a sat night but it still took 10 minutes for a server to even take our drink order. food took a long time to come out and the filet tournedos were a very small portion. the green beans were uninspired but well cooked. salmon was good. for the price I think I would expect better service and better food."

"Dont want the snootyness, noise and husle of big chain high end resturants, then this is the place for you, has all the best in food and service without the hype. A place to come and have a relaxing high quality meal and where the service staff knows what you need and want without asking. Ask the Matre 'D what an Eldredge Knot is."

"I now live out of state but still get a chance to eat here at least twice a year. The steaks are always outstanding. Between that, the garlic bread and the restaurant itself, I love coming here to dine. However, this time the mashed potatoes were runny and once my glass of iced tea was empty, it was never filled again."

"A bit tired and overpriced. Ordered the specialty of the house, the bacon-wrapped filet. Came out dry and overcooked. Sent it back and it was replaced, but in the end - just ok. Went to celebrate a special occasion, but wouldn't go back again"

"The Derby is a sophisticated, fine food dining experience. The service was superb, the kind of service one would expect in a restaurant in New York or Chicago. The menu was extensive. The food, service and ambiance with horse racing memorabilia combine to make The Derby a special dining experience."
