"Celebrated a recent wedding there and were treated to a meringue dessert with candle followed by champagne. Lovely touch. Food was excellent--6 people ordered 6 different dishes and we all thought OURS was the best. We celebrate all our special occasions there and are never disappointed."

"I've been to this restaurant before, and it never disappoints! The good is always fantastic, the service is superb, it's always an excellent experience. It's not a place you can go every Friday night (it's pricey) but it is excellent for special occasions or romantic outings! Kids are welcome, but they should be old enough to behave themselves and be able to enjoy an upscale meal... Not a place to bring your toddler. Anyway, I can never say enough fantastic things about this place! The food is delicious and rich, and the experience is amazing too!"

"We celebrated our anniversary here last week. As a first timer, we arrived 15 mins late due to traffic. (And honestly this restaurant is really out there) anyway, the host was able to accommodate us for our late arrival, thank you for doing us a favor and save us the table!
Food was fantastic, they arrive at a good pace and the complimentary chive soup and orange sorbet was a wonderful touch. Waiters and servers are very attentive and pay attention to details. Overall it is a restaurant that deserve what you paid for and with the kind of great service that you'd expect no less from anywhere else."

"It is very well known and it's a great location for me; the decor is nice but there wasn't any soft backround music so it made it kind of awkward in the beginning. The wine list was great, the food was too rich and too much; by the time I had the apetizer I was full or maybe what I ordered was not a good combination...in any case I was not impressed with the food."

"Long ride from downtown DC, but wotrth every mile of the journey. First came to Chez F 45 years ago when it was located in downtown. Enjoyed a wonderful meal (filet of sole) and ended with the famous plum tart desssert which was exactly as delicious as when first tried it those many years ago. So, superb meal, service wondereful and attentive, French country setting and ambience. What's more to ask for? Don't miss it."

"This is our all time favorite restaurant . We now live in W' burg, but try to get back at least once a year. We go as a family every Xmas as a special treat. Going in the spring you get the specials from the garden which is nice. We stared going to this restaurant when it was downtown in 1972 and it is our special occasion place ever since."

"The dining experience was outstanding from start to finish. There is no best or better choice from the menu except perhaps a personal preference towards meat or sea food. The wine list was exhaustive to meet all tastes, coupled with a very knowledgeable sommelier with a wonderful table side manor. Service was impeccable. "We wanted to spend a nice evening eating good food in a charming setting and, once again, "Chez Francois" did not disappoint us. Year after year they have been able to maintain their very special appeal and not many restaurants can offer that diversity of cooking together with such a well rehearsed service. Our appetizers (kidneys, sea food) were excellent and so were the entrees (sole and duck breast). We rarely eat dessert but would not pass on theirs: quite a treat. A few decades ago the Auberge had top food ratings in the region. Recent reviews put it in the middle of the pack. Looking at the many happy patrons around us we realized that we were not the only ones to ignore such reviews."

"Appetizers excellent! Crepe out of this world. Beef cheeks tender, tasty, and with texture--superb! Duck foie gras very good. Spinach/shrimp salad excellent. Onion soup OK.
Wines recommended by sommelier were great! Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru nicely oaky with both depth and freshness--a rare combination. Hermitage smooth and flavorful, not tannic. Probably the best syrah I've ever had. Soufflé good.
However, the entrées were disastrous! Halibut mushy like a mediocre trout or a poached catfish! Though taste was wonderful, texture should be the backbone of any dish. Rack of lamb soft not tender. A joke. Like the pressed wood lacking the strains of real wood. Not firm nor fresh...it even smelled!
Sommelier wonderful! Server below average."

"This restaurant has had a very good reputation for fine food and good ambiance. The ambiance remains but the food on this visit was definitely mediocre. The lobster bisque was watery and the lobster tough. A veal scallopini suffered from an overbearing tarragon sauce with overdone vegetables accompanying the dish. A lobster entree was tough and tastelesss. A starter salad again suffered from the overbearing tarragon problem. And the raspberry souffle's accompanying raspberry sauce was oversweet. All in all a memorable experience but not the right kind. We'll give this restaurant a rest for awhile and perhaps try it again in a year or two (hopefully with a new chef)."

"Just a fantastic place. Kudos to the hardest working Chef in the business -- Jacques Haeringer. Always a friendly man and so talented. It's just a joy to see that he still cares so very much about this place. Chez Francois continues to impress and improve throughout the years. If Michelin rated restaurants in the Washington DC area -- this restaurant would be worthy of 2 stars.
The lunch menu is wonderful and is a great deal. Service is impeccable. Wonderful Bouillabaisse and perfect soufflés."

"L'Auberge never disappoints. This visit was purposefully planned during a time of blossoming trees and moderate weather so we could take advantage of dining al fresco on the lovely redecorated patio. The food, as always, was beautiful and delicious. The service, as always, helpful and courteous. The soft shell crab in garlic butter sauce was a highlight as was the duck, so moist and with luscious mouth-feel. A bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape worked well with dinner and some port with the outrageously good Grand Marnier souffle! What more does anyone want! We look forward to our next visit."

"We have been patrons of this restaurant for many years and never once have we been disappointed. The food is always superb, the service excellent in a most wonderful ambiance. "Great dinner for a great occasion but god how can you still expect people to eat a 6 course dinner when they come at the end of the work week with kids who never eat more than one plate and a desert. Good vine list even though I got limited advice from the maitre d'hôtel. Most impressive was the foie gras, most disappointing was the chocolate cake. May come back to try the Brasserie in the basement."

"I have been going the Chez Francois since its days downtown. if anything it can be emphasized that it has gotter even better.

"Perfect place for taking a break from the daily grind. From the moment you enter, you feel like you are in France at a lovely restaurant out in the countryside. We had the lunch prix fixe menu: it was full of choices from the regular menu and you get 4 courses: beverage, appetizer, entree and dessert. The food was delicious and our server guided us to some wonderful choices. The beef cheeks and the house salad were amazing. Also enjoyed the flounder special. I treated my friend to lunch for her birthday and the staff couldn't have been nicer and gone out of their way more to make her feel special. They even brought her a complimentary dessert -ice cream on a meringue with a candle. Can't wait to go back."
