"Went on a sunday night, was still lively. The food was amazing, staff friendly and cool atmosphere. The menu constantly changes and there is a $38 fixed price 3 course menu, which allowed you to choose from their latest selection of dishes. The pork shoulder was the highlight of the night. Literally melted in the mouth. Good selection of wine and ales to go with the meal too. Would highly recommend to my friends."

"Great meal and warm, efficiently attentive service. We have heard friends rave about this restaurant in our neighborhood but hadn't been there in years--our loss. We tried several different menu items, from the rock cod with mussels to steak, the dumplings to the avocado salad, and everything was tasty, fresh and satisfying. Our whole group enjoyed it and we'll be back for sure."

"We have been going to Firefly since it opened 22 or so years ago. Had this been our first visit, we probably wouldn't have been enthusiastic customers. Our server seemed disorganized. Our food was bordering on cold by the time it was served. It was good but not remarkable. The kale and arugula salad was definitely worth skipping. Bitter and tough. The potstickers again as always are the best thing on the menu. Even better when they come to the table hot. And it is always hoped that beer arrives very cold. Not to be on this particular night. Plus, we were seated at the odd little table in the upper room in the east window. Terribly inconvenient for getting in and out when the two table right next to it is seated."

"Firefly is a very special restaurant. Great ambiance, great service, and sumptuous, mouth-watering food. There is no weak link here. They have a great wine list, with pairing recommendations. Seasonally changing menus, and deserts from heaven. Really inventive appetizers too, including shrimp and scallop pot stickers that will make you want to savor every bite. They do seafood and meats well, but they also cater to the vegetarian crowd. Tuesdays they have their famous fried chicken, succulent and spicy, with mashed taters, carrots and one of the best buttermilk biscuits I have ever had, served with butter & honey. All the ingredients are thought out well to partner with other tastes on the plate. One of my favorite SF restaurants. Period."

"Four of us were at Firefly on Sunday evening. We enjoyed the fixed price menu, unusual because it's possible to pick any appetizer, entree, and dessert. No restrictions--a very nice touch. The food was fine, every course. Service cordial and professional. It is a "neighborhood place," with diners from all over the area. They treat small children with respect and are respected in return. Our only regret: the always succulent fried chicken was unavailable, now a Tuesday evening specialty. We'll be back for that."

"My party loved everything about Firefly. From the warm bread with garbanzo bean spread they bring to start to the dessert. We had the vanilla bean salad to start; very interesting flavors. For entrees we had the skirt steak, the flank steak special, and the oyster mushroom panisse. Everyone was very happy with their dishes. My mushroom panisse was a really great vegetarian option; something a little different with plenty of flavor. We had a hard time settling on just one dessert, but we were so full we went for just the fromage blanc mousse with strawberry buttermilk ice cream. Again, we were not disappointed. This was a great combination of flavors. We loved Firefly."

"Firefly has been a superb restaurant for many years. So glad to see that the level of service and exquisite food is still part of Firefly's charm and appeal. The chef is quite skilled at putting together a fantastic and unique menu selection, (the menu changes weekly) and the meals themselves, wonderful!! I highly recommend this restaurant! "We went for the Passover menu -- one of us had the brisket and two the lamb. The lamb with fava beans and their greens was absolutely magnificent.

"I think these guys produce the best "special weeknight dinner" in town. They're food is not overly prepared or precious but the flavors are always intense and the presentation enticing. They use a lot of vegetables in their cooking -- like the lollipop kale I had on this visit -- and let those flavors command the plate rather than a complete obsession with the proteins. Service-wise, I really love these guys. Friendly, knowledgeable and totally committed to your dining experience. Also, I think they come in high on the scale of value (price to cost). Sumptious well-portioned food a reasonable tariff."

"I have eaten in this neighborhood restaurant many times over the years. Almost always I have enjoyed the food and the experience generally. However last Sunday's meal was under par. My biggest complaint was the portion of Black Cod I was served. It must have been the tail or something but my portion was effectively 2 or three bites--I'm not exaggerating! When I pointed this out to the waitress she did not do the appropriate thing, i.e., take it back and get me a real portion of fish. She just gave me the thousand yard stare and I felt uncomfortable sending back a dish just because the portion was inappropriately small. This entre was $28! My table mates gave me some of their meals. The trout was good but the pork shoulder was a bit dry."

"We were very disaappointed with Firefly last Saturday night. The food was terrible! And also overpriced for the portions.
The little gems salad that three of us ordered was composed of tough ends of the lettuce with oversalted dressing.
The fish was also very salty and just so-so. $26.00 for a piece of thin ,salty overcooked cod (or sea bass ....the chef kept changing his/her mind.)
My husband's artichoke gratine was tasteless and mushy.
We will not be returning.
By the way, we have been there several times in the past years and have always thought it was very special.

"We had two great servers for our evening meal and they were pleasant and attentive. The kale salad was delicious and properly dressed. The artichoke tartine was excellent with a sharp parmesan filling and red lentils. The seabass was disappointing, not well seasoned and overcooked...and rather expensive. Firefly is an older restaurant and it felt a little tired inside but it was a nice experience."

"What a find! While a bit out of our way, we really enjoyed visiting Firefly and its neighborhood. Very pretty restaurant and it's obvious that people were there to eat. Best dish of the night was a sardine, very fresh and cooked and served bones in and head on. No messing around, just there on the plate, ready to eat, and full of flavor. We ate every scrap. I had artichokes (local, sentimental favorite) on a bed of lentils with kale. It's hard to cook lentils that taste like something, and this kitchen knows its way around a lentil. Fantastic. My spouse had the seabass on roasted kale and that was fabulous too. The chef sent us a comp dish of fantastic, perfectly cooked asparagus. Thank you! Great dessert also."

"You can always count on Firefly for wonderful food. It is especially great that they have one or two fabulous vegeterian choices on the menu and we have often done the price fixe. Loved the polenta, the pork was cooked perfectly and the lemon tart was to die for."
