Osteria Morini - New York is a authentic rustic Italian restaurant by acclaimed and award winning Chef Michael White and the Altamarea Group. In Italian, “osteria” means a place where the owner “hosts” guests, and at Osteria Morini - New York Chef White continues this tradition of hospitality, transforming his first downtown restaurant into an authentic, old-world osteria with soulful food from the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.
"Thought the food and waiter service were good. However, i was turned off initially by the hostess' attitude. Thought they were a bit snippy and most of all, I was turned off by the fact that they didn't smile when I came in, and I smiled at them. This may seem like a small thing, but to someone who eats out a great deal, I value the way your are initially greeted. The manager should think about training the ladies who are the first impression of what is a good restaurant."

"My wife and I love Osteria Morini. We've had at least half-a-dozen meals there. The food at a recent brunch was typically excellent -- but we shared one special that disappointed us. This was the first time we were ever less than happy with the restaurant's food. But because every kitchen is entitled to an occasional misfire, we'll be glad to return. Osteria Morini is usually terrific."

"You MUST have the Capellini. Right off the first bite, you can taste the richness and flavor of this pasta dish before you can even finish eating one piece of this pasta. It's pretty awesome, the best capellini I've ever had. We mainly stuck with the pasta dishes and none of them disappointed.
The restaurant is in a pretty trendy neighborhood, convenient to get to via subway. The bar seems comfy, but the whole dining area is decorated in a very homely Italian countryside. It's very clean and the staff is welcoming and attentive."

"The ambiance is casual, sounds of happy eaters all around. The food is anything but casual, it's very, very good. Well prepared and served by a great staff. Homemade pastas are super, and the seafood soup is fabulous. Go without fear or trepidation!"

"Arrived early for our reservation, however they were able to seat us immediately! The wait staff worked as a team, and all of them were excellent. The food was fresh, well presented, and very tasty...LOVED the wine selection! Loved the energy we were able to view from a back corner table (requested)...GREAT dining experience!"

"I took my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner, which I made a reservation for 2 weeks in advanced. When I got there, they then proceed to give me the worst table in the whole restaurant. This is a terrible job by them and it really put a dampener on the mood. Definitely wont return."

"I love this place. I don't even live nearby, but I will go out of my way to come here. Delicious and extremely affordable for the quality. I have yet to find something on the menu that I don't like."

"Third time at OM. Everything was excellent, except I felt extremely rushed by the entire staff. Hostess, bartenders, and wait staff. Even the bus boy was trying to take away my food as I was eating it."

"It was my first time dining here and I will definitely be back. I loved the ambiance. It smells so great when you walk in. I like that you can see into the kitchen. The menu is awesome and the pasta was so authentic. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other offerings on the menu."

"Very expensive for "eh" food. The wine was good, the crostini (the trout and the lamb) were delicious, the rabbit ravioli was good. The cauliflower side and spinach side were too salty, arugula salad nothing special, and the meat was just okay. Overall, the place had a nice vibe and good service but the food was a serious disappointment. I would not recommend this place."

"Good wine list - go ahead and try the wine on tap...nicely priced and a good choice. Meat selections are very good - we had the 5 choices to share and enjoyed everything. Pasta dishes are perfect. We were a group of 6 and were able to have a lovely meal and good conversation. It's a little pricy, and the dishes are a little small, so don't expect gigantic portions. But it's all good, well executed and I would definitely recommend it."

"Hoping for an interesting meal. Instead disinterested waiter and bland food. The veal cutlet was a large hunk of meat covered with dollops of sauce- the presentation was embarrassing. Most Italian sandwich stores will make a far better and more flavorful cutlet. If you've ever eaten in Italy do not go to this restaurant - you'll be saddened . Normally would give a restaurant a second chance assuming an off night.... but this is the exception"

"The food was AMAZING. But it was weird that they would seat only full parties (when everyone in a party has arrived) even when I had a reservation. The weirder part is they held our table for 1 hour until everybody in our party came - they wouldn't seat us (2 out of 4 were there) even though we said we were ready to order appetizers and drinks."

"Went to Osteria Morini for our last dinner in New York after a week in the city. It was by far our best meal.
The ambience and service were great. Dinner was fantastic. Risotto cooked to perfection, pan seated branzino was succulent, olive oil cake for dessert was amazing.
Would recommend this restaurant to anyone: there were couples, groups and even families happily enjoying their meals.
A great way to end our vacation."

"What a great experience!! Our waiter was the BEST... Recommended the wine, food and chatted appropriately as dinner progressed. The portions were perfect (sometimes you can over order especially Italian food). We will go back for sure and will recommend this restaurant to friends and family."

"On a girls' day off in the city, my best friend and I enjoyed a long leisurely lunch at Osteria Morini. It was recommended to me by a friend who is a private chef and sommellier (and top grad of the French Culinary Institute). She did not steer us wrong! The prix fixe menu looked great, but we opted to graze with charcuterie and cheese, some small plates and then shared a pasta dish. Everything was absolutely delicious. Fantastic flavors. Service was attentive. I would definitely go back and highly recommend it."

"The taste, presentation and prompt delivery of the food, more than offset the server w/ attitude (altho he DID know his product) & the woman at adjoining table w/ loud piercing voice and raucous laugh. We had the prix fix tasting menu and my seafood salad was Wonderful; ravioli stuffed w/ ricotta & stuffed octopus were all winners... olive oil cake for dessert was surprisingly good too. Making me pay for the 2nd cup of coffee (even came back w/ adjusted check!) was a bit of a surprise, but... I did like the place enuf to want to go back and try their Brunch or even try to get there at lunch time and hope for a server w/ less attitude & more willing to pay some attention to his tables."

"I've been here before and remembered the amazing lasagna I had so I raved about it to my friends. Unfortunately it is only served during the fall and winter, so even though that was disappointing the rest of the dinner more then made up for it. We had the Crostini, meatballs and a salad to share among the four of us. For entrees we all picked a different pasta and every one was excellent (with normal size portions served so we did not feel overwhelmed). The wine selection was very good with unusual offerings that our waiter was able to guide us through so we enjoyed what we picked! Overall a nice Monday night out with the girls and they let us stay and chat long after our meal was done with out trying to rush us out of there."

"The food here is excellent. This is "real" italian food. The fresh pasta was so yellow you could tell it was made with egg and the flavor of the vongole was delicate and not overdone. The rucola salad was flavorful and not overdressed with shavings of cheese and artichoke. Even the foccacia style bread was light and flavorful. The service, however, was not stellar. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't very attentive or helpful. Other than that, it was an enjoyable experience."

"Osteria Morini tries to duplicate the experience of a trattoria in Emilia-Romagna, and for the most part it succeeds. Dishes range from good to outstanding, and the restaurant's often unfamiliar wines are interesting. At night, the chatter of diners can be so loud that you may have trouble hearing dinner companions. But excellent food redeems the din."

"Went for a Friday lunch at Morini; it was quiet when we arrived at noon, but quickly filled in. We had a selection of 3 crostini; the lamb crudo, and fava & pea were both excellent; the parmigiano was slightly too salty. Also had the grilled octopus which was cooked perfectly. The pastas, however, were the star of the show. The 'Creste' with shrimp & sepia ragu was absolutely killer and the 'Cappelletti' was also delicious. Can't say enough about the quality of the pastas. We are already looking forward to our next visit."

"Among the many many Italian restaurants in NYC - this is a very good find. Some reviews complain of service but we found it relaxed and well paced to our desires. The food was outstanding as was the wine and bothe reasonably priced - a definate repeat"

"We went there twice in a week because we were so delighted the first time. The pasta was perfect and the service too. The second time we were slightly less happy as the waiter was not so friendly and helpful and the pasta not quite as good. The experience here depends highly on who the nights cook is and how lucky you are with your waiter."

"Omg the food was awesome, really really good! But omg i feel so bad for the Chef on how poor the service was. Never the server did serve us our wine :(, he made a mistke in our order, never checked on us, no smile... I know that a restaurant should a whole to make the experience. This server did not respect the hard work cooks put into their cuisine! Back of the house: congrats and thank you!!!"

"This is a great place. The wine is all Italian and very good. We decided to eat at the bar rather than get a table and it worked out fine. The menu is varied and the food was excellent as was the service. You have to have a reservation unless you can find a seat the bar which is possible but unlikely as the night goes on."
