"had heard that this was a great spot but never tried it. We were late for our reservation and the staff was so understanding and extremely professional and got us accomodated relatively quickly. In a city where restaurants are top drawer, this one held its own. Food was fantastic. Had halibut with fiddlehead ferns and morels..spring delight! With the location in Uptown and ambiance of an intimate little place, I would go back in a heartbeat! great little gem and very well run."

"Entertained a first time visitor to New Orleans from Oregon and he could not stop talking about the meal and service. Introduced him to a Pim's Cup, which I feel Atchfalaya maked on e fo the best in the city. This is one of my favorite restaurants and I would recommend to any local or out of town visitor."

"I am sorry to say that I was very disappointed with the food at Atchafalaya. I dine here everytime I come to New orleans and they were really off the mark this time. Maybe they were overwhelmed with visitors to Jazz Fest? My chicken was as dry as dust and tateless. The pasta was skimpy and flavorless as well. Plus we waited over 40 minutes for the entree. The bartender was too busy chatting up people at the bar to get us a glass of wine while we waited for our table and then it was another 15 minutes to get a glass of wine after we sat down. Our waiter was nice but clearly a bit overwhelmed. I have had many good meals here so it's extra disappointing when you look forward to something and it doesn't measure up."

"Overall, the food was good but it was marred by inconsistency. My girlfriend had the soup special, a corn and crab. The soup was too salty. The fried green tomatoes with crab appetizer was excellent. The Pasta Atchafalaya entre was good, as was the Shrimp and Grits, although I wouldn't say either were that memorable. The mini cornbread muffins were cold.
The biggest complaint was the long time between appetizers and entrees (about 40 minutes). The couple next to us ordered their dinner and entrees almost at the same time, and finished their entire dinner before we even had our main course. This is actually the second time I've eaten at the restaurant and both times the service was very slow."

"I live in Los Angeles, but often travel to NOLA to visit my son who is a student at Loyola, New Orleans. The number of outstanding restaurants in New Orleans is ridiculous. It's always tough to decide where we are going to eat when we are in town. Never the less, we always save a night for Atchafalaya and we are always happy that we did. On this visit I had the spicy strawberry soup with a crab and avocado garnish. It was amazing. I went old school for my main course; center cut filet, fingerling potatoes and grilled asparagus. Outstanding. The restaurant is off the beaten track, but well worth seeking out. It is a true New Orleans gem."

"On our final night in NOLA -- when, frankly, we were tiring of the richness of LA staples and craving something more refined and delicious but lighter, healthier, more thoughtful -- Atchafalaya was the perfect fit. "Atchafalaya is not to be missed for brunch! With a Bloody Mary bar (that should read a DIY, kind of salad bar situation) and the bartender's penchant for infusing tequila with spicy stuff, it's a great start which is follow up by a great selection of brunch foods. There is outdoor dining as well as plenty of indoor space. The jazz band that plays is a terrific addition and didn't overpower our ability to have a lively conversation."

"Wow! What a great find! We went for Sunday Brunch & were excited/happy to see a make your own bloody Mary bar! That was fun!!! The food was way beyond expectation (although I had heard it was phenomenal). Each of us had something different so we could share & everything was incribly well presented, hot, tasty, & just plain old wonderful. The service was great, too.
Our only minus in all of this was the noise level. Love the idea of having a live jazz band, but we couldn't carry on a conversation at our table because the music was so loud (no fault to the musicians!). Just need to rethink the placement of the band...!"

"My family and I had an outstanding brunch here on 4/20/13! The staff was wonderful and very eager to accommodate my 80 year old aunt (who was in a wheel chair at the time). The food was amazing, especially the French toast (both types) & my fabulous egg white crab omelette & alligator sausage! Atchafalaya is permanently on my list of favorite restaurants! "This past weekend marked my first trip to the restaurant in 2013 and I was slightly let down by the food. The ambiance and service were excellent as always. Tony the owner acts as a gracious host and is extremely hospitable, however, there was a new chef in the kitchen. A chef of considerable pedigree, I might add...Pedigree does not always equal success in the culinary world. The pork chop I had came to the table beyond well done (the server assured me it would be cooked medium), and was very dry. You could tell the chef had not treated the chop with love. It was not brined or marinated...where is the love? The white bean rapini ragout was delicious until I bit into a semi raw white bean. Not sure if I can continue to recommend the place."

"Business lunch was great. Client wanted a Cajun local restaurant and she was pleased. Building is rich in neighborhood originals. We were able to chat and have good food. Prix Fixe lunch specials offered soup, entree and dessert at very nice price. Portions are small, but enough for a 3 course lunch. Server was very good and provided local info to my traveling guest. "This is a very cool looking building, and the interior is even cooler, not what I would expect in the garden district. Very inviting, not so fancy that you have to dress up, and the meal was top notch. Our server was quirky, but sweet and super helpful with accurate descriptions and helpful hints. The appetizers were all great, the entrees, very good, dessert was a little plain, but we only had one to share for a party of three, I would bet we just got a clunker. The staff was also accommodating, I added to the reservation size later in the afternoon by phone, but when we showed up we were shy of that number, and no problem, southern hospitality is a treat."

"I had the crab cake special with a poached egg and some kind of sauce. It was one of the best meals I've ever had. The crabcake was full of lump crabmeat and very little filler if any. It was crisp on the outside but not overcooked. The poached egg was just right. I wouldn't even let my husband have a bite! And the Bloody Mary bar was tons of fun - beautifully displayed and very tasty!"

"Went to Sunday brunch and all five of us LOVED the food and the Bloody Mary bar. What a find in the Garden District. There was jazz in the small bar and we were glad to be upstairs as it was quite loud downstairs. We enjoyed the music better being a bit farther away from it. This restaurant came highly recommended to me and I certainly would encourage visitors to New Orleans to get out of the French Quarter and enjoy this great little restaurant. Make reservations as the wait was up to an hour without them."

"This was my second time having dinner at Atchafalaya. Delicious food and great service. The shrimp and grits was incredible. We got multiple appetizers and main dishes, and the only dish we didn't like was the gumbo - too salty. It's a nice romantic spot for a couple or swanky place to go with a group of friends for a special occasion."

"Perfect place for Sunday Brunch in New Orleans--festive live music, a bloody mary bar with 3 different varieties of tomato juice and lots of fixins, and a great menu. The Duck Hash was to die for!! Eggs Atchafalya was very good, but the fried green tomatoes they come served on were tasteless. Service was knowledgeable and friendly but a little slow because they were packed. I will definitely go back and highly recommend Atchafalya to locals and visitors."
