Bistro 29 located in downtown Santa Rosa, Sonoma County. Bistro 29 is a traditional bistro specializing in “Breton” regional cuisine. The number 29 comes from the department of Finistère (end of the earth) located in the upper tip of north-west France. Known for the Galette de blé noir (traditional buckwheat crêpe) and sweet crêpes, Bretagne also uses a variety of local seafood and produce that can easily be found in and around northern California.

"We were driving from the East Bay to Mendocino with our toddler on a Friday for a wedding and knew we'd need a dinner stop around Santa Rosa. Bistro 29 came through for us with a high chair at a corner table (less distracting for the baby) and sophisticated service tailored to our daughter's needs. We enjoyed a steak and a buckwheat crepe with some lovely endive salad and a Burgundy from the excellent wine list, then shared the molten chocolate cake with salted caramel ice cream. Our daughter dined happily on finger food from home. Staff offered a child's cup and brought her a plate upon request. The service was attentive without being obtrusive, and the courses were served in a timely but not rushed manner. We would eat there again!"

"We came because the ratings were pretty high. We both had the prix fixe menu at the waiter's recommendation. This consisted of a small appetizer which was good, a fennel and mandarin orange salad (meh), a tasteless fried chicken breast in a puddle of butter (awful), and a cold crepe with strawberry slices with ice cream. I ate the ice cream. Also had a wine pairing which was awful. This is Santa Rosa after all. Good wine is not hard to find. Can't recommend and will never return."

"8 foodies enjoyed excellent service in a cozy bistro atmosphere. Their pri fix menu and paired wines were quite good and very reasonably priced. Wine list is not large, but has a broad enough selection and covers appropriate price points. They put obvious effort into having wines that pair well with their foods...and they make frequent changes as necessary. EVERYONE enjoyed EVERYTHING that we had. The only criticism would be that the delicate sweetbreads would be better served with a simpler recipe."

"Another couple, my husband, and I had a great dining experience at Bistro 29. My husband had gone to "yelp" for a restaurant selection in Santa Rosa since we were visiting the wineries and wanting to stop for dinner on our way home. We made reservations and were glad that we did. The place is small and was packed!! There is a nice selection of entrees. We were all very happy with them. The food was delightful to the eye as well as to the palate. And the espresso creme brulee--fantastic. I was a little bit concerned about ordering it but it was a very tasty, large serving. Yes, we will return!!+"

"Great little bistro. I had two starters which was plenty for me. Both were delicious. My wife ordered the half chicken. Too much food and the fries were soggy because they were on the dinner plate (the chicken was served with a cream sauce). Advice: 1/4 chicken is enough and serve the fries in a paper cone."

"Loved the menu-Warm escarole salad-overdressed.Little Gems salad-perfect, just a light vinaigrette-as a French country salad. Sweetbreads a bit overcooked, but flavor was good, especially mushrooms.Lovely presentation for a sweetbread appetizer.Sole was also overcooked; mushrooms were outstanding as on other dish.The hit of the night was the service and the crepe for dessert-choc ganache with bananas($2.50 for a few banana slices is a bit too much, though),topped w/caramel sea salt ice cream. The salt was "missing" in the ice cream, and the caramel seemed a bit burned.However, when I asked for sea salt, I received grey salt and added it to the top of the dessert plate-this tamed the burned flavor and finished the dessert perfectly."

"It is the little details that make the difference: a chocolate pastille served with the espresso, the French kitchen towels used as napkins; the Breton-style escargots that DON'T rely on garlic, the attention to decor. Everything about Bistro 29 is attention to detail. The service is authentic, flawless French bistro, only with the incomparable California friendliness found in Sonoma's Wine Country. The wine list is interesting, eclectic, and well-chosen, but the house wines are superb and priced reasonably. The food is entirely another matter: It goes far beyond 5 stars. This is without a doubt the best food being prepared in Wine Country. And, the prices are fair, honest and affordable. This is an excellent restaurant."

"We spent a lovely evening here lingering over a few glasses of wine and fabulous food. The service here is gracious, knowledgeable, relaxed (yet attentive, but not overly) and super friendly. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised. We started off with the Escargot (highly recommend) and on to a butter lettuce salad that was perfect, potato leek soup (super yummy) seafood cassoulet & pork tenderloin in a green pepper sauce with potato gratin. The desserts were OVER THE TOP delicious...Sweet Crêpe with Meyer Lemon Curd & Whipped Cream and Warm TCHO Chocolate Fondant Cake with Salted Caramel Ice Cream...two of the BEST desserts that I've ever had. Seriously! Can't wait to come back again.

"J'adore Bistro 29! It is the little fresh and so very French touches that make the menu distinctive; the night we dined there was a marvelous friture on the bar menu, served with aoli. The duck cassoulet is wonderful and the seafood cassoulet is a great departure from tradition. Service is prompt and professional. Bistro 29 never disappoints. Go early for the marvelous bar menu and to avoid the noise level when the restaurant is full."

"Had the special, the filet mignon It was VERY small, but it tasted very good. The other dish we ordered was the half chicken. The chicken came with french fries. Maybe I just don't understand french cuisine, but it is not hard to get french fries. The sauce used to prepare the chicken was very unique and tasty.
Overall it was worth trying, but it didn't surprise us or wow us. Maybe if we tried something more unique like the duck or lamb it we would've had more of a wow factor. My GF ordered the chicken, and that to me is like ordering mac and cheese or a burger at a fancy restaurant. I had to switch my dish with hers because the filet looked more appetizing."

"This was our first time at Bistro 29 and our experience was wonderful. We started with a simple arugula with loads of good bleu cheese. It was just right. My wife had sea scallops and I had the brick chicken with truffled frites. We were both very happy with the entrees. "I have Been dining here for several years, and singing praises to many friends. The servers are friendly, knowledgeable , and efficient ! We love the food and return again and again! Chef/Owner Brian is an open, honest, and friendly man! His specials are creative and always delicious. The Tues -Thurs $29 for three courses is a steal! This last week we had amazing salad, creamy blue cheese taste in the dressing, subtle, and fresh! The duck confit is what tempted us to go out and enjoy another dinner at Bistro 29! I wanted to lick all of my plates! I did glean the duck bones! Dessert...chocolate torte, house made, moist, intense flavor! Also...their ice cream is all house made...for a special treat!

"We had never been to Bistro 29 before Restaurant Week. We'll be back. Really like their $29 3 course offering Tuesday - Thursday, will have to try it. More restaurants should do this! Wait staff was very friendly and efficient. Lovely French menu and decor. Small dining room which results in tables too close together - that is something we didn't like - but what do you do? Neighbors hear your conversation and you hear theirs. Food makes up for the cramped space however. Wonderful wine list too."

"It was our first time at Bistro 29. We selected it during "Dine Around Sonoma" restaurant week for my father's 94th birthday. Our experience could not have been more perfect! The "prix fixe" menu was top of the line. We had a creatively executed goat cheese encrusted with walnuts, roasted beet, and thinly sliced pear salad followed by a deftly prepared sole meuniere and an exquisite dark chocolate dessert! Servings were generous, flavors amazing and the service perfectly timed. My father chose his favorite cassoulet from the regular menu and said it was "out of this world!" The decor is charming with a Breton feel and at the same time airy, light and modern. What a find! Bistro 29 will definitely be a new favorite!"

"This was our fourth or fifth visit to Bistro 29 over the past four years. We love their set menus and found the choices during Restaurant Week delightful. We were a table of four and everyone except my husband chose the set menu. The choices were hard to make even with two per course. I chose the goat chees and beet salad, the beef daube and the apple tarte tatin. My husband went for the steak frite. Great flavor and perfectly cooked. My husband is a big eater but he could 't finish the whole plate as the serving was gorgeous. Two amazing highlights for the whole table-the melt in your mouth beef daube that was the best I have ever had and the chocolate dessert option which my mother went on and on about.

"We went to celebrate our anniversary. It also was Restaurant Week in Santa Rosa. Very crowded. The wait staff was training a new person so that was a bit challenging for all. Food is very good, nice vibes and very comfortable. We don't eat meat (mostly chicken, fish, vegetarian) and no fried foods. This is a serious French restaurant so a lot of butter is used - fair warning to others on diets."

"The food was excellent. The first with the black chantrelle mushrooms and the gnochi was outstanding. The dessert crepes were also exceptoional. The cassoulet and the filet were good. the only negative comment I would make was that the coffee was luke warm. All that being said, we would go back again."

"We both had the duck cassoulet (they also have a seafood cassoulet). You don't often see that on menus, which is why we both focused on it. The portion was quite large and at a very high temperature when it was brought to the table. I would go back just for the cassoulet, but will want to try other items on the menu.
One downside is that parking can be hard to find."

"Love Bistro 29! The food is wonderful (you must try the Daube of Beef... oh my!) But what I appreciate is the wait staff are absolutely wonderful - and consistently so. This time Devin was our server (and he always remembers me by name). I was trying to recollect a great wine that had been suggested to me on a previous visit, and our server on that occasion overhead me questioning Devin about it. Christine (I think) came over and confirmed what that wine was. Unfortunately it was no longer on the menu, but she recommended one that would be comparable - which I had already spied on the wine list. So the synchronicity was great!"

"We are vegans and I notified them well ahead and talked to them the day before Valentine's Day. Even though they had a prix fixe menu that night, they printed a special vegan menu for us. The food was wonderful and the service was superb. It's nice when a restaurant is willing to embrace people with special diets."

"We were very impressed with this restaurant. They made extra attempts to seat us early, but were very cautious about making sure a later reservation wouldn't have to wait due to our early seating. The service was perfect. Not to pushy but just right. the Food was excellent. We had the fixed menu and enjoyed every bite. I would highly recommend this rest. to anyone looking for a great dining experience, but one should know the pricing before you go in. It could be a little pricey for someone looking for a common menu. The food was unique and very delicious and well worth the price. Kudo's to the staff and chef!!!"
