Imagine that you are recognizing friends by their voice, sounds tell a story, aromas come alive and elegance is felt. In this era of information overload, visual stimulation has reached an all time pinnacle. But imagine, just for an hour or two that you cannot see, that you are abandoning vision in exchange for a new, more stimulating dining experience – this is “Dining in the Dark." Opaque - Dining in the Dark – will seat you in a literally pitch-black dining room where you will be guided and served by blind or visually impaired individuals that have been specially trained to serve meals in the dark, casually and comfortably offering guidance and reassurance for sighted guests.
"Dined here recently; just for kicks. The food was good, but not great. The experience of dining in the dark was novel. But I am not sure if it is worth the price."

"Had a great time with my boyfriend for a special occasion. Definitely an experience neither of us will ever forget, very romantic and adventurous. I felt that the food was overpriced."

"On a visit to Los Angeles to see my grown kids, I wanted us all to have a "shared experience." Of course, eating here isn't about the food, although the filet mignon was excellent. All of us came out of Opaque with an enhanced sense of, well, our senses."

"The experience was interesting. Eating and getting around in complete darkness was a first. The food was better than I expected after reading the reviews but not worth the $100 per person set menu (does not include drinks). However, you are paying for the experience and the laughs. Hold onto your drinks when the waiter comes as she knocked over our drinks 3 times during the course of the evening and I was drenched. Also, another waiter knocked into my head with a pitcher of water, some guy walked into our table and my date got her breasts bumped into by the waiter when clearing the table. Few screams and lots of laughs, if you have a sense of humor."

"Fun to visit once. The food was nowhere near as good as it costs. The waitress seemed to try to rush us initially. I wasn't having it, and she took the hint. Great service after that. Fascinating place to visit once, but really... I wish the food was better."

"There is the promise of a truly unique and satisfying dining experience at Opaque, but the cost is far too high for the quality of the meal and setting. The fixed price three-course menu and wine list is limited in variety and average in execution. The decor felt like we were sitting at a card table on banquet chairs in a curtained warehouse. It was a meal you would expect at an average wedding. For $50/person, it may be worth it for the experience. But $99/person is just outrageous. After drinks, tax and gratuity, it was $400 for three people. I would never go back and that's a shame."

"The experiance is wonderful and worth the money!! Waiter needs to annouce himself when he comes up to the table and not just touch a person. I got startled many times due to this."

"There is a weird lounge that you walk into first, which gives you the impression that the eating area is tiny, which is fine but explains.... For a restaurant that is supposed to be focused on heightening your sense of taste, the food was not good. Maybe they have a hard time because they are mostly a bar, but then they shouldn't be doing this."

"This is a great place to go if you want to experience something very unique. You really can't see anything so you have to have a sense of adventure but the servers take very good care of you and you will have a lot of fun! I definitely recommend this for a special occasion."

"I really liked the restaurant, the people, and the experience. The only thing I didn't like is that Open Table really underestimated the price so it was quite a shock that threw me over budget. Yelp has it listed more accurately for the location in San Diego. I wish I would've known there was one in San Diego so I could've seen that posting and made the reservation for another time in the future. Other than that it was fabulous!"

"This is my 2nd time dining here. Great for sharing a unique experience with someone who wants something different. We tried both the salmon and chicken dishes. Chicken was dry and overcooked. Salmon was just ordinary and not well seasoned. Salad was delicious and sweet. We ate with our hands which was fun. Our waiter, Mike, made the evening enjoyable. I highly recommend that you ask for him. The place is over priced for the quality of food and a bit tacky in appearance. They definitely need to do some renovations. Can't imagine what it would look like if we could see the dining area. Oh, and the music was too loud. I wonder if it's loosing its appeal because of price and appearance. Very few people there on a Friday evening."

"Opaque is a very unique dining experience. The feeling that has resonated with me since having attended is an immense appreciation for all of my senses and a real appreciation for those who are living their lives handicapped. Our server, Michael, and the story he told, was very candid and raw. It allowed a glimmer of insight into his world and it inspired me to continue appreciating life and all of my blessings. After only an hour I couldn't wait to get back into light!
The food was very fresh, not over-seasoned, and delightfully simple. Being "blind" actually heightened the other senses more than I anticipated. I addition to experiencing full flavors, I could hear every conversation in the room!
Check out Opaque for an amazing evenin"

"First time dining in pitch black, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. When we got here, the staff was super friendly and helpful. They let us know it was OK to ask the servers questions about how life is, living visually-impaired/blind. Then, they walked us through a maze to find our seats.
Since we couldn't see our food, we based our opinions on taste and texture. The salmon was crunchy and flaky. And the mango panna cotta was my favorite. Overall, the food was good (not great). We were hoping for more flavor or something unique about the taste, given the price. We still had a great time, though! Definitely recommend people try this at least once."

"While it is one of those things my girlfriend wanted to do...it turned out to be a terrible choice. My girlfriend had a bit of a freak-out due to the dark even though it was her idea to go...she wasn't even able to eat much. This lead to the second iddue, we actually asked for the food to go...not a bright idea for the cook...if we had recieved this food once we could see it at any other place...the two stars above for food may be very over generous. The only good part was Sarah, the waitress, though I feel sorry for her, with her abilities she should be at a regular place where she could see to many more diners. Note: they have Valet parking in the alley to the west of the entrance."
