"I started to write a long review but it started making me upset. Bottom line is my wife and I used to spend thousands here. Now you can't pay us to go here.
We've had problems the last 3 times we went here. The food is still good; but WAY WAY over priced for the service that now comes with it.
-The server told me my medium well steak was medium rare and didn't want to take it back to the kitchen so that they would have the chance to fix the problem. Instead I ended up lying to the server and agreeing with him because I was tired of his stupidity.
-Made reservations for 7pm, showed up on time and was put at the bottom of the wait list. Waited an hour to sit. 2 hours later our food came out. Had to leave; didn't eat. Ruined anniversary"

"Our reservations were for 7:00. We went early for a coctail. The bar was packed. When 7 rolled around, there were still 7 groups ahead of us. Other people said they waited for over an hour. People rushing everywhere. Noise level very disturbing. After they were seated there was quite a bit more wait for everyone. Probably won't return. They just didn't handle their booking well at all. They were way overbooked! We left and had a nice outdoor dinner at a nearby Italian place. When we canceled our reservations, they didn't much care. Why would a place like this overbook so! We used to come about once a month. Not any more.
#1 Was required, so had to write something. Our category was missing."

"It can be frustrating finding a good restaurant open for Christmas or one on Mother's Day that doesn't make you stand in line for a couple of hours. That's been our experience in the past.
We've solved this problem by heading to the venerable Rudy's Hideaway as we enjoy the food (it's quite expensive on Christmas and Mother's Day but the food is delicious and they package a 3-course meal with limited selections like lobster tail and king crab legs and steak - or turkey dinner on Christmas). Diners can select soup or salad and can choose baked potato, garlic mashed, rice pilaf or green beans. Dessert is something simple and light, such as chocolate-covered strawberries.
Service is quick, efficient and accommodating. We'll be back."

"The food and service couldn't have been better. Went there on our wedding day evening in 1987 and decided to go back for our 26th anniversary. The staff made us feel so special and welcomed. We won't wait 26 years to go back, this is now our special place and I can't wait for our next visit."

"Our hats off to the chef, for the best garlic fries we have ever tasted. They were crispy fried, and garlicy to perfection. Complimented the prime rib dip just right. If you have not noticed, we are foodies and love food cooked to order. Too bad these fries are not on the menu daily or seasonal."

"Sacramento - and much of the surrounding area - has lost, or is in the manifest process of losing, most of it's original small-town flavors (peace, quiet, civility, etc.) since I was born in Mercy Hospital on J St. long before there was an I-80 to get there on.
But RUDY'S is one of those gems that still shines bright as an undying bastion of the "old Sacramento"! It is rich with great food and a wonderful ambiance. Couple that with a classy business attitude and expert service, quality must follow. You will walk away with good memories, anniversary or not. I remember saying to myself as we left, "Well, I got that one right!"....
It was our 41'st anniversary and we decided to try Rudy's after hearing a commercial on KFBK

"We've been to Rudy's many times and this was the first time we were disappointed in the food. We had their special lobster and 'baseball' sirloin steak. The lobster was cold and the steak really tough. I think they just had a bad night. Service was very good."

"The decor is super cute with ocean themed paintings and the tables are clear coat over sand with a bunch of sea shells, pictures, and we even found a sea horse in there! The service was awesome. Everyone seemed genuinely friendly and didn't seem to be faking it. The food was outstanding. The three of us literally groaned with pleasure at the taste of the food. The crab stuffed mushrooms were an amazing appetizer. I got lobster ravioli, and it was the best! To end the night they brought me a bowl of their chocolate mousse with a candle on the house for my birthday. Best mousse I have ever had!"

"We did NOT have a very good experience for our 40th anniversary dinner. I enjoy salty food, but my lobster tail was so salty, I couldn't even eat it. The server said she'd order another one for me & explained how it's cooked with spices. Hubby finished his meal,as we waited, then she brought an anniversary dessert with the bill before my dinner had even come back (still very salty), so the dessert melted, because my husband didn't want to eat it without me and I didn't want dessert until I had eaten dinner. Our son drove all the way there to surprise us by paying for our dinner and had the paid bill delivered with a card, which kept us smiling, but we'd NEVER go back or recommend it to anyone. VERY disappointing for such a special evening."

"My husbabd has terminal cancer and he loves Lobster. We went to Rudy's 30 years ago when we were dating but it got sort of shabby and run down and we stopped going there. Then our neighbors told us of this great NEW place called Rudy's and so now we went back. Ron was our waiter and they accommodated the wheelchair and all of our requests. A special night to remember and we took lots of pictures of my husband enjoying a real good meal..Thank you for helping me make another good memory of my wonderful husband."

"A Four Star Restaurant with a friendly neighborhood feel. Quiet, some of the best food in Sacramento and the best staff I've ever experienced. Think 1950's - 60's class, charm and courtesy. This was my first time taking my wife there and it won't be the last! A great place for a quiet dinner, anniversary or party. Bring your appetite:)"

"Enjoyed our dinner very, very much! The only negative thing I would have to say is that I feel that we shouldn't have to pay for the vegetables separately. I think that they should accompany the potatoes and/or rice. And if that is the only gripe I can find, I would say you are doing a stellar job!!! Excellent service by the entire staff, I might add!!! I have not been there since 1978 and I shall return soon!!!"

"Food was good however I had the ciopinno and wasn't informed I would have to put my hands in the tomato sauce to grab the crab and then crack it myself. What a mess! Our table wasn't set completely either. We had no bread dishes and no salt and pepper."

"Service was great, thanks Catherine. Atmosphere was nice, Food was very tasty, especially the clam chowder. Only complaint is the prime rib ordered medium was medium rare, but it was his birthday so he didnt want to say anything.
Enjoyed our trip there."

"We love Rudy's, the food is good and the service is good. We miss the Costco certificate deal, it would be nice if you would bring that back. We had a group of six, it seemed one of the lobsters was a lot smaller than the rest, you might want to be consistent with the size when you have a larger group of people. Otherwise, it is always a good place to have dinner. thanks"

"There were seven of us there for a company meeting. Lindsey, our server was very attentive and friendly. The food was okay. None of our entrees were "outstanding". Burgers and steaks were cooked perfectly to order. The two who had the Fisherman's platter were not wowed by the selection (flattened prawns, clams, and calamari. The calamari strips were very tender. The cocktail sauce was too sweet and needed more horseradish in it. The Louie Salad had some dried out crab or lobster meat, I couldn't tell. All head lettuce. Loved the salad dressing though. It was definitely a mens-type of restaurant, lots of groups eating and discussing while we were there."
