This is American Regional Cuisine at its classic, pub-inspired best. The food is fun and what we like to call “approachable”. You’ll also enjoy some twists on the classics with taste-inspired ideas like our Dirty Caesar Salad and Greek Turkey Burger. At the American Tap Room we believe in using local ingredients as much as possible and, yes, everything we serve goes well with beer.
Ranging from weekend brunch, to a casual lunch outing or an after-work gathering in our bar, each dining experience is uniquely enjoyable.
Enjoy your time with us on our outdoor patio, inside by the fireplace, or by booking an event in our private room.
"I chose the crab cakes, which were good. The spinach salad was excellent, and the Tap Room was flexible to allow another side as a substitute (great sauteed spinach). Those who are happy with Pizza and Bergers -- and lots of activity -- will love this place.
The warm pretzels and mustard sauce were great, and I put the sauce on the crab cakes (came with the standard, bland mayonnaise base sauce).
The noise level indoors is high with blaring rap music, which is ok for a youthful, energetic meeting place. So my wife and I sat outdoors where it was quieter and had more comfortable chairs. NOTE: We are senior citizens. I think the restaurant needs a music director who is over 30 and selects more pleasant background music."

"Dinner this time was OK but not as good as usual. Sun was in my eyes when seated and I asked the waiter about it but his inane remark was that he could move the sun??!! Duh. How about another table? He split a said that came with another entree (wasn't asked to do this.) and then He forgot my salad, and then by the time the bread I asked for arrived, we had finished eating for the most part. (I actually stopped eating so I could have the bread with my food.)
I will go back because I like it there about this one should have been better....."

"Wings were great!! I took my husband their for his birthday and its just not that type of restaurant. They don't acknowledge occasions like birthdays and such. I didn't like the crab cake. Salad was good. Decor is nice. This place is a bar setting for the neighborhood crowd not a family place. I will keep that in mind before I make a reservation next time."

"Very helpful in dealing with parking situation. Server kept trying to take the menus that had the wine and beer listed throughout until we had to just say - STOP! We are keeping these.
Calamari was excellent. Pasta with veggies was bland."

"Not our first visit to this restaurant and typically we have a great experience. However, our service was very poor and it certainly impacted our experience in a negative way. We typically view this restaurant as an "steady" place to get solid food but will have to rethink for future choices."

"I took my family here for Mother's Day dinner this year, and, after having a very hard time finding a place that wasn't totally booked or needed my credit card to make a reservation I settled on American Tap Room. Food was great, Mom was impressed, and we sat in these big fancy chairs...like the ones the put in waiting rooms sometimes, or really nice offices. It was perfect, because after we ate we sat and chatted a while and didn't feel like our backs were going to die. Two thumbs up on those chairs!! (in full disclosure, though, not every table has them, call ahead and request!!)"

"I'd heard good things about the American Tap Room many times, but never went there! However, after experiencing it for myself, I'm now a big fan! It was fantastic! My date and I really enjoyed ourselves and plan to go back there very soon!"

"This is the first time I've been disappointed in the service at ATR. Usually the food is presented quickly, but that was not the case this time.
The restaurant was not terribly crowded. Since it was Restaurant Week, there were specials available. Both the people in our party decided to get one of the special "deal" items, but apparently we needed to make our dessert selection before the food order oould be placed -- the server must carry over the tray of plastic desserts and explain them one-by-one; our server took a LONG time -- over 12 minutes -- to get back around to us with the dessert tray. She was pleasant, but just didn't strike me as efficient. There was also a ridiculous amount of waiting between each course."

"good neighborhood place to go -- food is standard American fare with a small bit of difference -- well prepared and presented, but far from haute cuisine -- good value, especially when considering the location in "downtown" Bethesda -- moderate array of draft beers -- two of us had a satisfying lunch"

"Prices were normative for the Bethesda area. Food was OK, very plain presentation. The decor was quite unremarkable. Lunch menu was rather limited. Waiter was friendly and hustled as the lunch crowd was sizeable. Not sure if I would go back or recommend as there are many other restaurants in the area that provide more for the same price."

"Small but diverse menu. Menu changes seasonally but seems to keep old favorites. We tried the swordfish (new to the menu that evening) and found it very fresh and well-prepared. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Great bar for small groups to get together and share appetizers and drinks."

"Went with a few girlfriends for brunch and it was the perfect way to begin the day! The ambiance was nice and the seats were very comfy! I heard about this place from a blog and they were rated very high for their brunch. They recently changed their menu and we wanted to try an item off of their old menu that was online. They were very accommodating and let us order the roasted mushroom & goat cheese omelet which was absolutely delicious. I hope they bring the omelet back! Also, highly suggest ordering their powdered sugar donuts! Will definitely be going back again!"

"This was my first time at American Tap Room, and it was disappointing. I would not return. When my wife and I walked in the place smelled of stale beer, and our shoes slightly stuck to the floor. When we were escorted to our table, the table had not been properly bussed, and there was food from the previous diner on the table and on our chairs. We ordered beers, but our waitress forgot about them, and we had to ask another waiter to bring them. The food was, IMHO, mediocre. I had the spinach salad with goat cheese and oranges. The dressing did not really go with the salad, and all the goat cheese had melted and was just a pool of white sauce on the bottom of the plate. My salmon was well cooked but the sauce didn't go with the fish."

"Food okay. Service pleasant and consistent. Quite noisy. Fairly packed on a Saturday night. Grilled salmon was our best dish. Lobster mac and cheese had ample lobster, but not much taste, pasta dishes overcooked."
