"Service not what it used to be. Maitre d unfriendly. had a party there a few months ago, and go there whenever my trips fro Ca. allow. Seems like the host has his favorites, and lies about "reserved" tables, which were empty. Will think twice about going back."

"I enjoy the experience of dining out and choice my restaurants carefully. This is one time I beleive that I made an error in judgement. I will not go back to this restaurant and I will not recommend it to family and friends. Pittsburgh is flooded with "good" italian restuarants but this is not one of them."

"The food was superb as was the service. We took two friends who had never been to Donato’s, and they were amazed and will return. They called us that same evening raving about the meal. I feel that the prices are very fair the quality of the food and the wonderful service that you receive. In my estimation it ranks in the top restaurants in the country, and by far the best in Pittsburgh."

"As usual, had a great dinner on a Monday night. My companion wanted to eat light and had a house salad and the shrimp wrapped in proscuitto, which were delicious. I had the eggplant parm which was really good and somewhat different due to the addition of a little bechamel sauce. Our favorite waitress, Tina, provided excellent service as usual. Will definately be back."

"We have been to Donato's a handful of times. Every time we have enjoyed our experience. The meatballs are our favorite and comparable to my wife's mothers. I also enjoyed the stuffed Lobster Specialty. The server we had also recommended we try Donato's ricotta cheesecake because the last few times we were here we tried the cannoli. The cheesecake was outstanding and may have been one of the best I have ever had. Overall the food was excellent and the service was top notch. We will be back in a few months for our anniversary."

"We are return visitors to Donato's. Our waiter was very friendly, attentive, and spent time chatting with us. The calamari appetizer was great, with a nice kick if you want some spice. Both the Caesar and Donato salad are recommended. They have a weekend main lobster special which is stuffed with crab meat. Steak and chops selection is very appealing. Side dishes for sharing - the truffle macaroni and cheese is great! Very nice wine and dessert selections. Will definitely return!"

"This was a disappointing meal at Donato's. We have eaten here several times and were very pleased, but this time we were not happy with several things. My tuna was overcooked and never was I asked how I would like it done. Same with my partner's salmon. We had to request things several times before they would appear. Add to that a server with attitude and we left feeling that our expectations had not been met. We will probably look elsewhere the next time we are looking for a higher end place for dinner with friends."

"We have been to Donato's several times before and generally find it a good restaurant. We are both vegan and they have always been very accommodating to this type of dietary need. The food, especially the sauces, is always fresh and very good. Our experience this time with the wait staff was less than stellar however. Usually the staff is prompt and very attentive. However, on this night we encountered several delays from being seated (even though we had reservations) to getting drinks, to being able to order. Three different servers seemed to be waiting on us, yet none could get the food and drinks over to us. I'm chalking it up to a bad night.
Overall, a restaurant worth visiting. great wine list too!"

"I have dined here several times, but after waiting one hour and 10 minutes past our reservation time this was a new experience! The bartender, Chris, could not have been more sympathetic and congenial, along with Rosalie the hostess. The party that had our table just stayed beyond their allotted time, and I don't have an answer as to how to handle that problem. Of course we will return, but maybe an 8 pm reservation is too late?"

"This was our third visit and it was disappointing. We had several service snafus that ruined what would have otherwise been a very good meal, and for the prices, we expect better. I inquired about specials and was told that I needed to wait to hear them; we were served mussels in an absolutely yummy broth, but with no spoon for the broth, no bread for dipping in the sauce (when we asked, we were told firmly that "the bread comes with the salad"), and no cocktail forks (the runner did notice this and returned to say "he couldn't find any"). My husband ordered the soft shell crab special, and a long time elapsed before the waiter informed him they had run out. They did comp our dessert after we complained."

"Food was great. It's set off a bit in a small shopping center, so doesn't look like much from the outside. But really quite a nice place. We went on Easter, so they had their special Sunday menu. Avoid it. Although the food was great, the idea that you can serve the number of people they propose with the quantity of food they provide is absurd. We were four people - three did the family style lasagna which was barely enough for two. They brought extra lasagna when we commented on the amount, but really... The lamb special was phenomenal, and unlike the family style dinner, plenty of food. Had a nice dessert, too."

"Donato's was one of the best restaurant experience in recent months! First, the manager and staff gladly accepted our TZ voucher on a very busy Saturday night. We had a 5 pm reservation for 3 people, and the staff was already in motion. From appetizers to main course to side dishes, our food was cooked to perfection. We each had a glass of wine then had calamari for starters, scallops, pasta and crab cakes with house salad for our entrees, and asparagus and artichokes as side dish...unforgettable! Staff was attentive, quick, friendly, and VERY courteous! Our waitress apologized profusely and offered to run to a store and get my herbal tea after dinner, wow! Par excellence."

"This was our first time at Donato's. We really enjoyed the atmoshere, the food was outsatnding, and we will definitely recoomend it to others and of course return. It was nice seeing Matthew again, and he made the experienmce special. Mary also did a great job and was very personable and engaging.

"The food was expensive, bu well worth it. The calamari was one of the best I've ever had. The jumbo scampi linguine was terrific. The scampi was fresh and not chewy at all. Good flavor. The pasta was cooked to perfection and not over cooked like many other restaurants. Also is was not sitting in a puddle of sauce like you see at so many other places. My only complaint was the waitress never came back with our change for the bill."

The chicken parm was outstanding, the steak was perfect, and the pasta with the veal,spinach and cheese rolled was amazing! "Our wait staff person was very nice, but she kept on bringing us the wrong items, from the wrong wine,(cabernet instead of sauvignon blanc!) to bringing me a ceasar salad with anchovies she had obviously pulled off. I had requested no anchovies, and when I began eating the salad, the croutons tasted distinctively fishy. Then I saw a few anchovies she had missed, glistening in the middle of my salad. She forgot to bring my husband's side order, and it took awhile to get it because the order had not been given to the kitchen. In all fairness, it was a very busy Saturday night. Our server apologized and gave us a complementary dessert, which was very nice of her. But, it is and expensive place, and the food and service were not up to par."
