"Went out for a nice dinner after the semester ended with my girl friends and the food was great. The server was friendly and the overall atmosphere was nice, with a moderate noise level to not feel too overwhelming or too casual. I would definitely recommend the place."

"The food was beautifully prepared and presented. We have every intention of returning!
The relaxing atmosphere and friendly kind service made the whole evening very enjoyable.
We particularly enjoyed the bread basket. It was filled with cheese dotted biscuits and cornbread with a touch of dill. The main course of a grilled pork chop was well prepared. I was not disappointed.
I chose tres leches as my dessert. It was just the right size and with a myriad of flavors that were both tantalizing and refreshing."

"One of many trips to Spoon, this was with a friend, but I've been there with small groups (6-8) and special loves, almost always excellent. I had a great smoked scallop appetizer; salmon with crab egg roll, bok choi, braised mushrooms: and a wonderful dessert they call Tres Leches, that has nothing to do with the usual over-sweet cake. This one is a glorious mix of tastes and textures including coconut, mango, and mint-basil and more. Everyone is friendly. Wines are great."

"We ordered the NY steak, indulge priced $44.00. W/o indulge priced $32.00. So for an extra $12.00 we got three little pieces of bread.???? Our meal was delicious. But the indulge was ridiculous!!! We would rather indulge at a fine restaurant where bread is included with the meal."

"We love this place. I can't say enough good things about this beautiful restaurant and the staff that work here. We have been here twice and if time permitted we'd be here every week. We love the food and the experience. Love it. The food is creative without being overdone or pretentious. The entire experience is worth the investment .. Go and you won't be disappointed."

"We all enjoyed our food at the Spoon, but there were a few problems. 1) The wine list costed too much. I am not going to spend 12 dollars on a glass of wine, when some very good wines cost 15-20 dollars a bottle at a store. I could simply not enjoy wasting money like that. 2) The portions were a little too small for the price. This was a fine dinning establishment, so it is expected that the portions will be small, but if they are small enough that they were more like starts, that is too small. One dish was not like this, the Char, which was perfectly large enough for an entree. 3) Two of my party ordered the rabbit pasta, which was served in the oddest plate we had ever scene. The shape of this plate made a small dish look even smaller."

"In recent years, I've come to appreciate tasting menus more and more. I like the variety with the smaller portion size of each course, and at restaurants like Spoon, an innovative chef like Spoon's Brian Pekarcik, makes each dish a combination of textures, colors and tastes that are like chamber music for the eye and palate. And when the tasting menu is coupled with a wine pairing that is equally innovative (including a beer to go with the spicy Korean pork) and of high quality, the results are squared. Spoon's wine steward, John Wabeck, even took the time to explain each pairing. Our server, Ralph, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I'm looking forward to a return."

"In honor of our parent's 50th wedding anniversary, my sister and I decided to make a reservation at SPOON. The braised short rib was tender and flavorful, the salads were divine and presented artistically. I recommend the Splice the Mainbrace cocktail to set a festive mood for any occasion. As a bonus, our server Mila was quite attentive and arranged for a special anniversary dessert with vanilla-basil ice cream for our parents. It was a splendid evening for this momentous occasion and worth every penny."

"Went to Spoon for our 10 year anniversary. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. We chose the tasting menu paired with wines. All of the food was amazing and service was excellent! They even surprised us with a special anniversary dessert course! The only complaint I have was that we were seated right beside the front door and hostess station. Not exactly the quiet romantic setting that I had hoped for. Overall was a great evening and would definitely recommend Spoon to others."

"Appetizer was delicious (asparagus two way) but disappointingly small (two small pieces each, for two people). Cocktails and food were delicious but as a native it's hard to eat a $90 meal for two and not be full. Love the food, would just like larger portions, at least of the sides like potatoes."

"It was our first anniversary. Melanie, our server, was exceptional. She was quite patient with my husband's questions. The maitre d was highly accommodating: we were late for our reservation due to construction. ( I did call :-))
I am a vegetarian but was in the mood for fresh pasta. Melainie assured me that the lamb dish could be made vegetarian. The layers of flavors from the sunny side up egg with the mushroom sauce and tapenade was "lick your knife" GOOD ( we didnt do it of course) AT SPOON THE SORBET WAS SIMPLY DELIGHTFUL AND REFRESHING! Exceptional service, great atmosphere and geniusly crafted menu!!!"

"this was our first time there. with all the on line info, we had pretty high expectations. it was a bit far, but easy to find. the building itself was a bit "ruff around the edges" not exactly super clean or well kept. the staff was very friendly . and helped to keep the "feel" of the place a bit more high class than it looked. and then. . . they brought the food out.. . i was impressed at the first sent of the dishes as they set them down. the food was SO GOOD, i could have been sitting in a feild on a bale of hay to eat it for all i cared. all of the small inperfections we saw before disapeared with every bite. we ate every bite of everything we ordered. and the drinks were the best i have had. i cant wait to go again."

"Food is absolutely unbelievable. Everything is sourced locally, so the menu varies slightly. But the attention to detail for every aspect of the meal is unparalleled...the bread basket is out of this world, the dishes are constructed perfectly to make sure everything on your plate works together, and the desserts are sinful. Service is warm and courteous, very helpful for giving you recommendations and the rundown on the food. Ambience is nice, with romantically dim lighting and a charming interior. Dress code says casual, but it's more along the lines of smart casual...it's not nearly a stuffy atmosphere, but you'll fit in better if your manner of dress is a little more put-together and contrived."

"The food was good, but portions were small, especially considering the prices. The bread basket was excellent. Service was very quick in that our dinners came out very soon after ordering them, which may be related to the fact that the menu selection is fairly small. The restaurant is very comfortable and attractive. Wine prices are somewhat high though the descriptions are creative."

"I took my wife to Spoon for her Birthday and came away very impressed. The service was great from start to finish and was very informative with questions on the menu.
The meal itself was incredible. I had the scallops dish and my wife had the braised lamb. Both were delicious.
I would highly recommend Spoon for anyone looking for tremendous service and a great meal."

"Although some time has passed since my most recent visit to Spoon, The quality of the food, service, and ambience remain exceptionally high, and it retains its place as one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. For this visit, I was joined by a couple who had not dined here previously, and they, too, were delighted by their dining experience. We also consulted John Wabeck, the new wine manager, who was both patient and knowledgable in helping us to make our selection. Every time I go to Spoon, I promise myself that I won't wait as long before I return. This time, I have even stronger hopes of keeping my promise."

"Very disappointing. We chose this restaurant based upon the reviews as well as the online menu. It started out well with nice ambiance, timely seating. It all went down hill from there. We were seated in a banquette along the wall. The upholstery on the bench was very stained and the wall next to my seat had chunks of stucco and paint missing. Makes you wonder what the kitchen looks like. Then when we reviewed the menu. Apparently,the signature dish we had so looked forward to had been removed from the menu. Why would the online menu not be updated to reflect this? The dishes we had were fair - very salty, little flavor. Service was good but changing the silverware with each course doesn't make it an upscale restaurant."

"I came here with my wife the day before Valentine's Day. I had the vegetarian tasting, which was excellent, with a vaguely Indian flair. I also had a Stockholm Syndrome cocktail - highly recommended. For dessert, we had a cheese plate, and the chef was able to adjust the cheeses due to some dietary restrictions. The menu changes every few days, so I'm sure we will be coming back in the future to check it out again.
The service was also excellent; our server had tried every dish on the menu (apparently, this is common practice there) and so was able to answer all of our questions.
I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. It was one of the best food experiences I have had in years."

"On two occasions, loved the "Tasting Menu" (five courses ) in 2012. In Feb 2013 philosophy seems to have changed. No longer great tastes...now "interesting" combinations. I hope this is just a "Winter Menu" switch. Combinations like Hanger Steak Tartar & a fried Oyster, or Short Ribs & Sweetbreads, or Quail and Wild Game Sausage (the Quail seemed more like a Robin) did not leave me thinking I will return and have any of these as an entree. The wait staff was very good. Ambiance was also. We hope this was a temporary experiment. It would seem obvious that good dining is first about good flavors and taste and interesting innovation comes somewhere after that."
