Cantina 1511 - Stonecrest
Back in 2004 Cantina 1511 opened its doors on EAST Blvd Charlotte NC with the promise to serve the good souls of Charlotte with consistently outstanding Mexican fare. In a world where promises are often made but seldom delivered, this was the exception. The food and service were excellent and more surprisingly; consistent. As the years passed the standards of food and service have improved largely through our genuine commitment to excellence in hospitality.
Cantina 1511 continues to “Bring more to the table than good food” as we expand our vision. Not only to continue our endeavours to live up to that original promise but also to elevating our ideals in the procurement of our produce, creativity in its preparation and in service to our guests, our community and beyond.

"Mother's day meal was excellent. Mom had the BBQ dish.. She loved the way it was served, taste and everything about it. Authentic without being overly spiced. Myself, I had Grilled Shrimp and Scollops with street corn. This dish was excellent. The shrimp were grilled to the right consistency. The Scollops were like butter. Melted in your mouth. Brown on the top and bottom from grilling, Firm yet not over done on the interior. The corn mixed with a bit of the salsa was the final flourish to an outstanding meal. The girlfriend's duck was perfectly done, not greasy as is the case in many other places.. The slaw and pickled onions was the perfect compliment to the tacos. The beans were the finishing touch. EXCELLENT dining,"

"My boyfriend and I went to Cantina on Mother's Day, and I have to say the service was spot on. Eating outside was also beautiful, as it was hard to really see the road and instead easy to enjoy the area as a patio. I have recommended this restaurant to friends and will continue to do so. If you're looking for good Tex Mex, go HERE! You won't be disappointed. Their margarita flight sampler is also a great staple for a Bachelorette gathering or happy hour treat."

"We normally love cantina and the last two times have been bad experiences. They have undergone some new management and the place just isn't the same. We booked a reservation specifically with anniversary in the foot notes for 8 people it took 30 minutes longer than my reservation time to get sat and then they put us at a table that was split by a huge pole. When asked to move the table beside us together since the people got up one of the mgrs acted like it was a big deal. The server was horrible forgot several things and the food wasn't that great and my bill was 200 bucks. Could have went to any other mediocre Mexican restaurant and received better service for less. Don't know that I will be back, not liking the new cantina!"

"We went mid-week at 7 p.m for a meal with a client. The restaurant was not crowded, fairly private and easy to converse.
The service was slow and it took five minutes to be acknowledged by a waiter, even with reservations. Original Marguerita was fine, Blood Orange was a disappointment. The highlight of the meal was the appetizer: fresh guacamole prepared at the table, with thin corn chips fresh from the oven. The rest of the food looked good, but was mediocre in taste. Fresh catch taco was dry and bland. Strip steak taco meat was dry and tough. Cheese enchiladas had a nice presentation in an iron skillet, but flavor was so-so. We finished about half and didn't bother to take any of it home."

"I just met some friends here to celebrate a birthday and it was a great experience. Someone put a lo of thought into creating the menu and the food clearly reflected this creativity. The dish I had was a bit different from what you might find at other Mexican themed restaurants and was absolutely delicious. I also had a great margarita which was different than most. The service was prompt and the server was knowledgeable about the menu items. This is a fun and vibrant place for celebrations. Will definitely go back and highly recommend."

"It is my understanding that Cantina has changed ownership in the past year. If you were a fan if Cantina a year ago, you will be disappointed in the food and service. Two children's orders arrived 10 minutes after all of the adult orders. It was chicken tenders!"

"A lot of money but good food. Forget about conversation cause of the very loud surroundings. Server very buisy. Maybe to many tables. But would I go back? Heck yes! The food was great! Try to get the little bistro table at the corner of the bar area. Very romantic compared to everywhere else. Now for the drinks, stick to the tequilas with some lime and bar sweetener, the mojitos were kinda blah and the specialty drinks were so so. But overall, it was very good."

"I love this place and have already recommend it to friends. Food and service are fantastic every time I have ate there. My one complaint with the place is the credibility behind placing reservations. The last two reservations I've had has turned into 40 minute wait times. People were arriving that didn't have reservations and were seated before me. I'm going to continue to eat there but would love to see some changes in the reservation making."

"It's hard to go wrong at Cantina. It's Mexican food - but upscale! Lots of different options on how authentic you want it to be and every time I've gone and ordered something different, I haven't been let down. Great chips and salsa - make sure to ask for the green salsa, they don't bring it out anymore unless you ask. It's the best! And for those who like it hot - ask for their habanero salsa."

"We always enjoy 1511 but had a bad service experience on this visit. There were 5 of us for a celebration and after no service for over 10 minutes it took us two requests and another 6 minutes to get a waiter to come by. He explained there was confusion and gave us a free appetizer but it was a bad start. We then felt rushed as they started to move courses too quickly as if to make up for the delay.
Good news is that the food is always enjoyable and of great quality."

"We have eaten here before and love this place. In fact, during dinner, we wondered why we don't come here more than we do. It was a very busy Friday night and according to our waiter, the wait staff was struggling to keep pace with their respective tables. Our waiter apologized a few times and said, "I'm sorry for not coming by more, but we're slammed tonight." However, outside of a delay in having our beverages refilled, we didn't notice this as our focus was on the food. Between the great food and even better conversation with my wife, I was oblivious to what was going on. This place is awesome and we'll be back!"

"I had the fish and carne asada tacos and they were a bit disappointing. The taste was rather blend. Our waiter was ok, but brought the check to our table as we barely had finished our entrees. Did not ask if we wanted dessert or anything. It felt like we were asked to leave so other people could get a table, there was a long line of people waiting to be seated. I would expect this kind of service at lunch in a "regular" eatery, not at a nice place like Cantina.
I've heard and read good reviews about this place, so I was disappointed that our experience there wasn't great."

"I love this place! Great food and tasty chips & salsa and homemade guacamole, delicious queso dip! I have only had the steak burrito, but It's my favorite. I wish it had a little more steak, but it is delicious and priced well. The desserts are also great! Awesome service... You can't beat it! The only reason I gave them a 4 instead of a 5-star rating is because the drinks are extremely weak and very expensive. I had a favorite restaurant in Denver , Colorado-- Rio Grande... This food is comparable, but Rio had a three drink limit because they did you right with the marg. Who wants to pay $10 for a weak drink?! However, if you don't mind tasty weak drinks and all other things awesome, this is the place for you. Worth a try!"

"Hi,
Over the past 2 years, we have probably been among your most frequently returning customers, averaging 4 visits/month, usually on Fridays. We always enjoyed the fast friendly service, great food, and the atmosphere. Over the past few months, we have seen the food quality decline, and the service get slower. This past Friday, we arrived for our 6:45 reservation (Open Table)and weren't seated until 7:05. Person at the stand said they didn't know we were here, even though we had a pager. Fine, these things happen.
We were seated at 7:05 or so, and the server waited on us fairly promptly, but the food didn't arrive until shortly after 8:00. On my dinner, beans and rice were warm, and the taco was room temp.
Looking for a new Friday"

"This is a great restaurant for casual dining with friends or family. Atmosphere is good and staff friendly. The food portions are large so alot of food for the money and tastes great. One of my favorite items is the house guacamole made table side! I definitely recommend this place!"

"We made a last minute reservation and got there and was very crowded. We didn't get seated until about 15 minutes after our reservation which was not an issue at all..but as we were being seated, they apologized and gave us a free appetizer. That was a very classy move and made our experience all the much more enjoyable!"
