The Nicollet Island Inn has stood witness to over a century of change on the shores of the Mississippi River. "I enjoy dining in a restaurant when I dont have to strain to hear what is being said by the other members of my dining party. The food, while still good, is not quite as good as it used to be several years ago, but it is still good enough to draw me back in on a quasi regular basis since it is so enjoyable to go for a walk after dinner and the dining room is so quiet"

"I love the 5 course brunch. Food choices were exceptional and tasted as good as they looked. We had a small table overlooking the river and it was very enjoyable. They will bring the courses at whatever pace you want, so you can make it as long and leisurely as you desire. It is a great place to enjoy a special occasion."

"I took my 90 year old mother for dinner the evening before Mother's Day to the Nicolett Island Inn Restaurant. Never having been there before, we were delighted with our lovely table with a beautiful view of the river and downtown. Our waiter was very friendly, attentive, and helpful. We each ordered the 5-course dinner and chose different choices so that we could taste and share. The food was outstanding, a very lovely menu. I ordered flowers for my mom and they came promptly as I had asked for. And I used the limo service that was suggested and that was very efficient. My mother can't stop talking about our wonderful evening together. I can hardly wait to bring her again at some other time....soon!!"

"It was our 44th anniversary, I had ordered flowers for our table and when we arrived they were not there. I had called ahead to let the hostess know they were to be delivered and expected them to be on our table. They did show up several minutes later, with a feeble comment that they were put aside and overlooked.

"We came here for brunch for our anniversary. Right when we got inside, we were greeted with a warm welcome. The servers provided great service, they all seemed to help each other, which I really liked. We had the salmon eggs Benedict and creme brûlée French toast for our second course. They were amazing! For our third course, we had the lobster roll and salmon gnocchi. The roll was served on a baguette type of bread which I now prefer over the other breads I've had lobster rolls with. The salmon gnocchi dish was a little small but it made me full. Everything had great flavors! Our food came out quick, we never had to wait. The view was beautiful despite the snow in April. It was our first time there and it definitely won't be the last!"

"Had the 5-course brunch Sunday morning. Great food, very inventive, nice presentation. I wouldn't say I loved everything I had, but that's more a matter of taste. The brunch wrapped a weekend out-of-town with my wife, and wanted it to be special. Nicollet Island Inn delivered on all fronts. Some may find it a bit expensive, but you have to look at what you're getting. High quality ingredients combined to make sumptuous meals. The service was great also. Always refilled drinks quickly, cleared dishes quickly, and replaced flatware as needed (being a 5-course meal that was important)."

2 in our party of 4 were served cold coffee. We told
our server, and 2 new coffees were brought out, but they
were cold as well. A new pot of coffee was quickly brewed
and the third set of coffees were brought out steaming!!
We appreciated that our server did not get annoyed by our
request, but we also did not want to keep quiet about the
issue. It got resolved."

"We ordered the 7 course chef's tasting menu with paired wine flights. Everything was well prepared and nicely presented. Portions were large compared to other tasting menus we have sampled, so we were stuffed instead of satisfied by the end. Most of the food seemed over salted. Wine pairings were perfect.
Our server was rushed and seemed over-whelmed by his many duties that evening. His assistants were very "green". Over-all, we had a pleasant time."

"We went to the Nicollet Island Inn for our anniversary based on recommendations from diners on Open Table. We were not disappointed. It was perfect for a romantic dinner. The setup makes for a quiet dining experience even with people sitting near you. The dining room overlooks the river, which is picturesque, plus the decor in the dining room is nice. Our waiter was attentive, but not overly so. Our entrees were cooked perfectly and were delicious. The menu has both traditional and contemporary offierings, so is good for foodies and those wanting the familiar. They had several good choices of sparkling wine, so you don't have to spend a fortune for good bubbly. The dessert selections were limited but good. I would definitely go again."

"I'd probably only go back to Nicollet Island Inn for the views, and maybe if I spent the night there. The food was ho hum -- underseasoned and sorely in need of acid. Everything LOOKED beautiful (beet salad, lobster roll, caramel ganache), but tasted bland. The "caramel ganache" was an oddly conceived dessert of vanilla ice cream (sans bean seeds), caramel sauce, cinnamon flavored water, two super yummy shortbread cookies, and a bar of fudgy chocolate that was much too cold to have been plated; the ice cream was melted before we could dig into the chocolate, which was overpowering. Everything looked lovely, like I said, the location is great and the views are spectacular, but the food was nothing to write home about."

"From the moment I called, I was serviced in an extraordinary fashion. I dropped off flowers the day before, which they kept in the cooler for me over night. The Chef gave us a tour of the kitchen. The Chef then incorporating an engagement ring onto the dessert plate to provide a spectacular presentation and surprise.There are few places as the Nicolette Island Inn that offer the variety, class, and comfort that patrons want and need in today's dining experiences. Nicolette island Inn is certainly the Ritz Carlton of Minneapolis!"

"We came for the 7 course tasting menu. It was a busy night, service was fine, but only 2 of my 7 courses were well prepared and tasty, the tartare and the tenderloin. Onion soup inedible. The broth tasted canned, thin and flavorless with some boiled onions and mushy crouton at the bottom. Could not eat it. Beet salad was simply several slices of cold beets on a dish, a spoonful of soft cheese and no dressing. Pasta was lamb filled ravioli with a parmesan crisp. The lamb was flavorful, but the ravioli had been fried and was cool, tough and dry. The cheese plate and dessert were not bad, just meh. Enormously expensive after wine, tax & tip. Spouse made other choices and enjoyed it more."

"The food was ok but we expected more for the price. Nicollet Island is a fine dining experience that falls short. The ambience is nice and the service good, but if you pay $200 dollars for a dinner and 2 glasses of wine for two you expect more. The pistachio cheesecake dessert was awful. It was salty! When we told our waiter he said he will talk to the chef, but did not offer an alternative, even though both our plates had most of the cake left. They charged us for it of course. Bottom line: not good enough for the price and location. This place is coasting on reputation alone as most of the customers were elderly couples. There are just too many similarly priced or less expensive fine dining places in the TC to waste your time here. SKIP."

"We enjoyed the 5 course tasting brunch. All of our choices were excellent. We especially enjoyed the quiche, beet salad and the salmon. I'm guessing the view is even prettier in the spring and summer, but the snow and the river were lovely as well. The tasting brunch is a lot of food. When we return we will probably order off the breakfast menu--but it was a splurge day and we really enjoyed ourselves."

"My visit was on Friday, 2/15 to celebrate Valentine's Day. Many others were there doing the same and it was noisier than I expected based on the high ratings for a romantic spot.

"My husband and I put Nicollet Island Inn at the top of our "special occasion" restaurants. Food is always made with the utmost care and attention to detail - no simple side is "simple." Waitstaff is courteous and attentive without being ever-bearing and ever-present. On this occasion I had the Pork Ossobuco and it was outstanding. We shared the Caramel Chocolate Ganache for desert and it was decadent but perfectly proportioned for sharing after a sumptuous meal."

"Food was OK - my wife's walleye was pretty dry and tasteless. My filet mignon was very good. The rest of the sides with our meals were average - nothing special. Server rushed us through the entire meal - and this was on the Saturday night of Valentine's week. Not a pleasant way to have a romantic Valentine's and 23rd Anniversary dinner!"

"While I have been to the NII before, our last experience (splurged on Grand Tour) left us feeling very disappointed. While I understand the concept of a tasting menu and smaller portions, these dishes were just ridiculously TINY and very overpriced. The scallops should have read SCALLOP (singular). My husband received ONE scallop on a small plate of risotto as a main course. It was truly laughable. The food itself was ok, but not great. Pasta course was the best– but again came on a gigantic-rimmed plate with a 1/4 cup divot in the center for our 3 bites of pasta. 7 courses and $300 later, my husband and I left feeling hungry and ripped-off. With SO many great Mpls restaurants, we will not be back and will no longer recommend to others."

"It was the visiting-birthday-girl's birthday, and I took her to lunch on a Thursday. We started with the beet salad with smoked ricotta. I liked its flair with its kale crisps, but the cheese with it didn't pack as much of a punch as I would've liked (kept wishing it was goat cheese instead). The ambiance is traditional/fancy, warm, & cozy - with windows all around, so there's a lot of natural light. For entrees, we had a chicken focaccia sandwich with arugula pesto, gruyere, and pears (I wanted to MARRY it, so good) and a special-of-the-day roasted root vegetable soup (which I also wanted to MARRY, so I guess I'll have to be a bigamist when I return there!). Service delightful and attentive. Memorable birthday lunch accomplished!"
