"Monroe's has been a favorite of our for more than a decade. I am a big fan of Italian food, and Monroe's does it very well. The ambience is pleasant and the service very good. It's a nice place for a quiet, no fuss outing with family or friends. The diverse salad selection adds a special touch, and the red table wine by the glass is a signature feature. The prices are well in line with the value received."

"The menu was interesting & had many choices. The food was delicious. They have many wait staff who diligently & unintrusively are attentive to the guests. We don't like restaurants that have loud noise background - and loud noise was not a problem at Monroe's. We were able to find street parking with a block which was another plus. All things considered, Monroe's is a great restaurant."

"Loved this place! Perfect, little Italian date restaurant. Prices are reasonable. Only thing that was not great was the Crème Brulee, but other than that - wonderful! Loved the option for smaller portions for all the favorite dishes."

"We have dinner at Monroe's at least once a month and are always happy with the food and service. My parents were visiting us from Chicago and when I asked where they would like to go my dad said Monroe's. I consider this high praise for Monroe's because he is a pretty go with the flow kind of guy. My husband always gets the same pasta dish, which he loves and I get the fish special. Highly recommend this spot for couples and family groups. The menu is very large and I have not had a dud yet."

"This is our second time at Monroe's and we just love it! It's DEFINITELY a neighborhood Gem and I love the cozy atmosphere. It's a simple little local place. You love it the minute you walk in. Cute, nicely decorated, feels like home. My mom was visiting so we brought her here. We started with the mushroom special for an appetizer sauteed in butter and garlic with the freshest of mushrooms. My mom loved her Tilapia Special. She asked about the sauce and the chef came out and talked to us about it. I had the Swordfish Special with pesto which was very good and my S.O. had the Crab Pasta which is FULL of crabmeat. Overall delish, I hear you always get a good meal here and I believe it. Be ready for a HUGE menu!"

"We have been going to Monroe's (always for dinner) for more than a dozen years--ever since we moved to Northern Virginia. It's a family-run business and a great place to go with friends, family, or as a couple. The food is very good, Italian-influenced fare with fresh ingredients. Not gourmet but always at least good, and there is something on the menu to please just about everyone. We always receive a warm welcome, and although the table service itself can sometimes be a teeny bit rough around the edges it's not enough of an issue to affect our enjoyment. If you want a bit more intimacy, ask for a booth. They can be hard to secure on a busy Saturday night. In warmer weather, some tables are set outside and that's also a nice option."

"There were families and people of all ages (a few couples had children under 4) and it was very very LOUD. It was too loud to enjoy our dinner. I have never seen tables so close together, we were practically dinning with the people at the table next to us. The food was not very good. We ordered the calamari which was oily and you could tell the oil it was cooked with had not been changed. My husband's steak was done nicely, but both his entree and mine came with a lump of starchy/gooey mashed potatoes and three asparagus stalks. We had planned on ordering desserts, but were just ready to leave and walked out feeling underwhelmed and disatified."

"We finally tried Monroe's after living in the neighborhood for years. Glad we did! It is packed every night and has good food and friendly service. The dishes were a tad on the bland side, which I have also heard from others, but my crab pasta was delish (I did add salt and pepper which I don't normally do). My boyfriend had the Tilapia special filled with crab and said the same. There was NO shortage of crab in either dish. We will definitely be back. The atmosphere is a little old school but just right!"

"Went with 7 friends for a Friday night dinner. The restaurant was very accommodating with the reservation. The atmosphere is good - albeit, a tad on the quiet side. The waiter could have been more attentive & more detail oriented, but when he was at our table he was friendly. We had to point out members of our group who hadn't placed an order yet/try to grab him before he went away to get refills on drinks, etc. The food was edible. It wasn't horrible and it wasn't great. The food resides somewhere in that gray area of I didn't spit it out but I wasn't transfixed either and while I'm not rushing to go back again, I wouldn't decline going if someone else decided it was their pick of the night. Completely average."

"We came here on a Sunday night at 8pm, and we pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves. I imagine it's probably a bit noiser/lively when at capacity. The food was good with no frills--just old school Italian food. Our server was pleasant and fast. The prices are reasonable. I'd go back."

"This was an alternative on OpenTable when restaurant of choice in DelRay was booked. Meet another couple for a fun evening out. Had read the reviews, mixed, before dining. Overall, I would say reviewers are right must be hit or miss with the food. 1/2 our table had a MISS. The other 1/2 liked their dishes. Good service and staff was very nice!"

"Saturday Night during Alexandria Restaurant Week 2013. We always like MONROE's but know that it can fill up so we went on the early side (7pm). It was packed with local diners enjoying a night out at this Del Ray neighborhood gem. We ordered the Two for $35 special and everything was good, from staff to food to service. A nice treat on a mid-winter's eve."
