"I happened to come upon this restaurant through one of the restaurant apps I use. I really enjoyed my meal from start to finish. I ordered the ribeye with bone marrow and Gorgonzola risotto. I cleaned my plate~ Presentation was nice. The staff was attentive to some point. I enjoyed being able to see the chef prepare food in the kitchen. I think the restaurant was a bit too quiet even with many patrons. Maybe needs some ambient music?"

"[One] offered a special Mother's Day brunch the day of our visit. The food offering was buffet style and everything we tried was quite good. It included standard brunch fare like scrambled eggs, link sausage, smoked salmon, a wide assortment of desserts, salads, bakery goods, and so on. The surprise came at the end of the meal when we were presented with the bill. $165 for 3 meals. This included 1 glass of wine and 1 mimosa, but no other alcoholic beverages. Given the price of our bruch, I don't think we'll return for another meal."

"We have not been back to ONE for nearly a year because we found over several visits that the service staff were so poor they were able to ruin any dinner. We were there for a brunch buffet, so we thought the impact of service staff would be minimal. Not true. We waited for 20 minutes before anyone could be bothered to bring water, much less take orders for drinks. No one stopped by to say a word about the buffet layout. Beverage refills were slow, but plate pick-ups were attempted repeatedly while we were still eating the food. When the waitress finally left the bill, she did not come back to pick it up for 20 minutes because she was busy in the corner chatting with other staff. Food here is nothing special and the service is dreadful."

"Expect to order a 3 course meal or go hungry. For my oyster stew, for example, the waiter put a single oyster in the bottom of my bowl and poured some cream on top. My rack of lamb was two very small chops--about 4 bites. The breast of duck was about 4-5 bites. That said, the food was good, and they happily served us even though we arrived at 9:30 pm on a Saturday night. THere were still plenty of wait staff around--nice people-- but they still couldn't seem to provide good service. They forgot to bring bread; they brought my husband lamb when he ordered pork, they served my soup with no spoon and I had to wait 10 minutes for a waiter to notice that I needed something. WE paid for still water and they poured tap water when they refilled."

"This place was way overpriced for Sunday brunch, it was 30 dollars per person for a little amount of food, our bill total was almost 200 dollars for some sausages, eggs and some pastries. My kids told me we should have went to Golden Corral or Buku. The 20% gratuity was added to our bill even though there's only 5 people in our party, and it was a buffet!!! It should be 10% gratuity or customers discretion. It was a bad choice place to eat for a special occasion like today for Mother's Day. I would never recommend this place to a friend and I would definitely would not going back to this place ever again!!!!"

"My wife brought me here for my birthday. Has a modern look with an open view of the food prep area. First impression was, "this looks cool", but then was confused by 5 or 6 staff members looking at us when we entered. Anyways, went to our table. We were welcomed and greeted. Menu presented in a trifold, plain, black and white. Wine list presented on an ipad, which was left on the table. Not sure what I was to do with it. Thought about checking my email. She ordered a mojito with a surgar rim, and I ordered a glass of cab. Wait staff presented drinks, bread with oil and balsamic, as well as an gaspacho taster. Not a big fan of cold soup, but i drank mine and my wife's. We shared a reconstructed pear salad - very good........"

"Terrific New York style of cuisine! The open kitchen added to the ambiance of the hard table and floor ambiance. Our female head server did a terrific job on presenting wine and cocktails to compliment all of our meals. The bisque, pork chop, scallops, soufflé,mousse, and lemon thyme sorbet were particularly memorable. Will be back next time on town."

"What a delicious evening from beginning to end! A perfectly designed, well thought out menu - an excellent tasting experience, even the prelude treat was exquisite - this is DC, LA caliber dining in the heart of chapel hill - SO impressed! The servers were friendly and knowledgeable, the wine list extensive, and the food was the best I've had in NC. Don't miss the foie gras appetizer or the chocolate ginger souffle! This was definitely a treat, and I recommend it for any special event or date night!"

"The quality and originality of the Easter brunch was very good. They offered a managable amount of variety and for the selection and taste it was well priced. The open kitchen design of the restautant saved them since the buffet was not ready for about 40 minutes after they opened. Watching the prep helped pass the time while the very friendly and helpful waitstaff provided drinks."

"My brother, adult daughter and I went for our first time on Easter. The brunch was fantastic! We all felt like we had really struck gold. The food was just the right amount of different and special, everyone was gracious and helpful. I have to give a special endorsement to the pastry chef - wow really good sweets! The entire experience was elegant and delicious. Go! Enjoy!"

"Easter Sunday Brunch at One Restaurant was excellent. Delicious frittata, Brioche with a poached egg in the center and sage cream sauce, smoked salmon, roast beef hash with a nice bite, even the sausage links were especially good. The service was also excellent and the restaurant is beautiful. The only complaint for us was the $9.50 for each mimosa."

"The menu and the food were spectacular, as good as it gets in this area. On the other hand, the service could not have been worse. It was confused, disjointed and without a clue. We had an event we were attending and told our first of multiple wait staff that we had about 1:45 hours to eat. We finally received our main courses 1:35 hours after our arrival. Got off to a bad start when three different people asked us what type of water we would like. Only the third apparently heard us simce she finally brought water some 20 minutes after the first asked. Cocktail order was taken about 10 minutes later and drinks were served some 45 minutes after we arrived. As much as we always enjoy the food, we will not be returning anytime soon"

"Wow, just needed some place to grab lunch and came across this place on Open Table. We had an amazing lunch, we look forward to returning for dinner. Food was very good and I loved the concept of their open kitchen. I didn't look at the wine menu, but they did have nice storage for wines, so I assume They had a nice wine selection. We look forward to our next dining experience."

"Exceptional menu with balanced unique dishes. Food is as delicious for the eye as it is for the palate. Beautiful plating and mix of flavors in the beef short ribs and the quail small plate. The main reason to come is not just the food, but for one of the best priced wine lists I've ever seen. I think they only have a 10% mark up on most of their bottles (maybe less on some). Their wines range from popular to limited production. You really can't go wrong here. Probably the best bang for your buck in the area."

"Spectacular food. Just enough on the edge of modern cuisine to be exciting and interesting without being so over the top that it scares the food unadventurous away. Perfect balance. I can't say enough about the desserts - you just have to try one no matter how full you are."

"The website displayed a very interesting looking menu, so we were excited about our night out with friends. I was also impressed when I got a call in advance asking where I wanted to sit-wine room or main dining hall. I started to wonder when we arrived and I found out quieter wine room is not actually a wine room, but the bar. Things went downhill from there. We waited over 10 minutes for our drinks order to be taken, and then a very long time for our drinks to actually arrive. It was the trend of the night. I could tell they wanted to go for leisurely, but it went beyond leisurely to way too slow. What was worse, we mentioned (politely) quite a few times that service was lagging, and there was no apology or correction to the too slow pace"

"There was a large party at the restaurant and this may have contributed to the bad service and inferior meal we received. The main problem was that we did not receive our main course for nearly an hour after ordering. Instead of telling us that some mistake had been made and apologizing for the delay, the waiter either ignored us entirely or told us that the food was on its way. When we received the main course, the lamb was extremely salty and had been overcooked. We have at other times had a good experience at this establishment."

"I was treating my girlfriend to a birthday brunch, and wanted to find something special, with great food and ambiance. I searched for Chapel Hill restaurants and looked at your website, and knew this was the place I wanted to try. We were promptly greeted by the hostess and seated. Our waitress was attentive and nice. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. I have already recommended your restaurant to a neighbor, and she and I will be coming back soon. My friend and I enjoyed watching the chefs at work, and seeing all the fresh vegetables being prepared. We were delighted with everything, and the birthday lunch surprise was a great success. On a scale of one to ten, One Restaurant gets a ten!...Beverly"

"We were with a group that intended lunch with a lot of conversation, so we didn't take advantage of the advertized opportunity to watch the chefs in action, though we could see that the setup invited intimacy with the kitchen. The restaurant was largely empty, but I don't think that reflects badly on ONE--it was an early lunch on a Saturday. So the one host and one waitress were very accommodating, helpful with the few unfamiliar items on the menu, and introduced us to a wine we'll try to find back at home. The salads and soups were inventive and excellent. If this restaurant were a lot less than 200 miles from our home, we'd go there again."

"The food was outstanding. Concept was excellent. I didn't care for paying 8-12 for a glass of wine that was ONLY 5 oz. I mentioned this to the waiter and he didn't seem to care. I had an earlier experience eating at the bar, and the service was horrible. The food was still outstanding, but would not eat at the bar again. Service was much better in the main dining room the second time I was there."

"One remains a Chapel Hill gem. The food is inventive, flavorful, and delicious, with an emphasis on local ingredients. The service is friendly, professional, and attentive. And the wine list has a nice range of varieties and prices. The setting is pleasant and quite modern and the lighting levels are good (becoming a rarity these days). Enthusiastically recommended."

"We had been once before to One and had really enjoyed a meal in their bar, so chose to go back to the restaurant for Valentine's Day. We elected to go with their tasting menu, with wines paired with the dishes. We had to wait for really unacceptable amounts of time - 30 minutes on one occasion. The service was more about protocols than real human interaction. Overall a real disappointment."

"We greatly enjoyed our first visit at One. The food and service were excellent and more than once I thought "And this is in Chapel Hill!" The only negatives I have are related to the dining room lights and the choice of music playing (rather trendy and a bit too loud). While I enjoyed being able to read the menu without a struggle and didn't dislike the music in general, I thought both seemed out of sync with the rest of the dining experience. It's certainly not a reason to avoid One but offered as feedback for the owners that toning down both would have made our visit to One outstanding. That said, I think the lighting and music fits their wonderful bar area perfectly. I'm inclined to make my next visit there."

"One is our go-to restaurant for special occasions,so it seemed a good choice to celebrate our anniversary. Our experience was, however, very disappointing. Service was inattentive at best. the waiter seemed disinterested and busy elsewhere. Two of us ordered off the prix-fix menu. The "surf-in-turf" special consisted of one scallop and about an ounce of lobster. I would not be surprised if our guest left hungry. Another guest ordered halibut which she found to be overcooked. My duck 3 ways dish was delicious as always, as was the rice pudding. the prix-fix people had already eaten their desserts before the waiter even took the others' dessert orders. for the price we paid, I would expect (and usually get) better."
