Dinner for Two
Dinner for Two is a family owned restaurant that has a comfortable, intimate atmosphere for parties large or small. Our local 'regulars' call us "a great value in fine dining". Multi-award winning: including Wine Spectator and "top 10 in southwest" We are happy to host dinners for organizations, or private celebrations from 2 to 60, everything is made in-house so special diets are easily accommodated: allergies, gluten free, etc.

"Our first visit was inadvertently made on a Sunday when several entree/dessert combinations are available for a very good value of $19.00. This was an unexpected treat so i was happy to spring for an upcharge on their "doughnuts and coffee" dessert. I would advise anyone to do the same since it's one of the best desserts I've ever had. Not seeing how their much bragged about Caesar salad could be anything special, we tried the crab cakes and a baked fig appetizer - both of which were excellent. But the couple seated next to us ordered the Caesar and we've decided we have to try it on our next visit! Service was friendly and spot on, although the kitchen might have been a tad speedier."

"We had a wonderful experience at Dinner for Two on our wedding anniversary. The staff greeted us at the door and wished us a happy anniversary. We can't think of any other spot in Santa Fe where one can delight in a seafood appetizer; crab-stuffed trout; onion whipped potatoes; crusty housemade bread; a bottle of Orvieto; and friendly, attentive service. Then dessert: key lime tarte, and cheesecake with fruit medley. The chef had decorated our dessert plate with "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate sauce! A top-quality meal like this cannot be found in Santa Fe for less than the $90 we paid. Dinner for Two is our go-to restaurant for special occasions and, well, just because!"

"Very nice place, though parking was a bit challenging. Service was excellent. Lamb chops, medium rare, were cooked perfectly. Ribeye, cooked medium also cooked perfectly. Ribeye was pounded very thin, certainly a different preparation, but tender and pretty flavorful. Ribeye was served on a bed of BBQ sauce, which detracted from the flavor of the meat. Mashed potatoes were OK, but not very interesting. Key lime pie was very good, but cheesecake was too much crust, not enough cheese."

"Dinner for Two is everything we want a "go-to" restuarant to be. They offer a creative mix of menu options - some standards (like the amazing table side Caesar Salad) and new items, mostly locally sourced. They have streamlined their menu - which previously could be confusing - which is welcome. Currently, they are offering Prime Rib - which was wonderfully seasoned, cooked perfectly and served with horseradish mashed potatoes that could be a meal in itself. The service here is wonderful - and there is a Team effort, obvious from the moment you enter, to make sure your experience is wonderful. One special treat here is the freshly baked bread - while we love the onion, our recent variety was green onion/dill; we didn't leave a crumb!"

"This was truely a lovely dining experience, from the food preperation, to the service and the perfect ambiance with a classical guitarist performing live in the background. The cesar salad for two prepared table-side is a must and "coffee and donuts" for dessert is not what you think, but way more interesting and better! I had the lamb and my wife the barimundi fisk. Both were deliciously seasoned and perfectly cooked. I highly reccommend Dinner for two if your looking for a wonderful fine dining experience in Santa Fe."

"My husband and I dined here on a weekend evening. We had a very nice corner table. Our waiter was informative and efficient. He told us that there was only one order of the table-side caesar salad left, so if we wanted it he would go to the kitchen directly to let them know. As this was one of the main menu items we were interested in, we were very happy that he did this. It was excellent, (the diners get to choose the garlic and anchovy "level") and the croutons made from the house bread were excellent. I generally do not eat croutons, but ate all of mine in this salad. The crab-stuffed trout was excellent also. My filet was good, -loved the worceshtershire and onion sauce, but slightly overcooked to my "medium" request."

"We have dined a number of times at Dinner for Two on our trips to Santa Fe. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside but once you are inside, it has a comfortable feel. The food is very good as is the wine list. The best deal is the Sunday dinner for $19 which includes an entree and dessert. However, be aware that some of the entrees include surcharges. However many of the entrees are in the $19 category and they are not just cheap choices. On this Sunday visit our entrees were veal piccata (huge portions of delicious veal) and mahi mahi accompanied with grilled shrimp, crabcakes and calamari ceviche. The service is very good making this restaurant worth trying when in Santa Fe, especially on Sundays."

"Let's start with decor. Low ceilings, different paint colors, black tablecloths covering windows and Christmas lights to set the mood (this was April). Appetizer: could not taste the cheese in the Gruyere Leek Tart. Dinner: the Veal Marsala had no taste in the veal or Marsala sauce. Dessert: the semifreddo in the chocolate cake was frozen as hard as a rock and tasteless to boot. There are a lot better choices for restaurants."

"While the staff was friendly and trying hard, we were disappointed by the food. The short rib appetizer was one small rib, not hot, and came with a ketchup-y sauce that didn't enhance.
My entree was a generous portion, but all tan on the plate- veal, mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and just didn't have much flavor. My husband's plate looked better, and while the seaweed and calamari ceviche was flavorful and different, the shrimp had an almost artificial orange flavor to it and the mahi didn't taste super fresh.
Maybe just a tough night in the kitchen? Very busy that night, we enjoyed seeing the kids dining out before prom!"

"Very disappointed. First, we were rudely told that the Sunday dinner special advertised on the website(and mentioned by diners on yelp reviews) was not available .... it was simply a free dessert with an entree for $19.00, with lots of upcharges for many entrees ...it's really not a "special"....businesses should honor the deals advertised on their website if they can't keep the info up to date!!!!!!
Service was awful. We never saw our waiter after ordering and getting a glass of wine...well, we saw him walking back and forth past our table, never to pay the slightest bit of attention to us. The hostess tried to help out, taking our dessert order and handling our tab....

"When you're ready for a break from green chile (or red), we highly recommend Dinner For Two. It's a little bit old school, even a little cheesy, with it's darkened dining rooms strung with Christmas lights, but that just makes it pleasantly different. The food is outrageously good. Not many places left that offer table side preparation. We chose halibut and lamb chops over the table side chateaubriand, but we did go for the caesar salad, undoubtedly the most exciting, lovingly prepared and delicious we've ever had. We also went head first into the warm butter bath of the table side bananas foster. This is our third time to Dinner for Two in as many trips to Santa Fe; we wouldn't miss it."

Once inside, the ambiance was beautiful.
We took the Chateaubriand for 2, which was prepared table side. The bread is homemade at the restaurant, which was one of the best we have tasted. The desserts we had were delicious. The ice creams must be tried. This is a family business, with the wife seating us and making us feel comfortable, the husband does the baking and the son is the chef."

"What a great evening.... it started with homemade warm bread, soft butter and a nice bottle of red. I had the lamb chops and my husband had the veal piccata. I believe we both had a salad beforehand (kinda fuzzy margaritas earlier before arriving!). For dessert we had the bananas foster. Nice table side sizzle/presentation, it topped off the meal beautifully.The service was excellent, attentive, accomplished and fun. Our waiter asked if we wanted our wine decanted. I can't remember the last time I was asked that. Nice touch.D42 is all about excellence in service, food and presentation. It works beautifully. I highly recommend checking this gem out."

"The food was very good. Would come back again, but our service was lousy. The waitress didn't bring some of the food the way we wanted it, my son wanted his rib eye served without bbq sauce or have it on the side. She didn't come back to check on our food. We would like to have a little extra salad dressing on our salad. I did however tell her one of my lamb chops was a little too well done, but she didn't offer to replace it. We waited a long time between courses and I asked for a bag to put all our leftovers in and she never did bring it and I had to walk out with our leftovers in a Smith's grocery bag."

"Went here for my birthday with my girlfriend. We had a great time and both enjoyed everything we ordered. I highly recommend the table side Caesar salad. Only thing that was a little off (and this is being picky) is that I ordered a Mendocino IPA and the waitress brought me a Stone IPA without a word of explanation. Maybe she made a mistake, maybe they switched what IPA they carry, I don't know. I like both beers but as a total beer geek I thought she would have atleast asked me if a different kind was ok. I guarantee if I ordered a specific brand of wine that they didn't have they wouldn't just set something else on the table as if nothing was wrong. Overall, the food was excellent and I would definitely go back."

"We dined here in February 2013. The overall value here is outstanding. The Ambiance is a little weird with modern art, art deco sconces, and ink-stamped cushions. However, it is warm and quiet, allowing for clear conversation. We thoroughly enjoyed the Homemade bread, Maryland Style Crab Cakes, Truffle Oyster Mushroom Bisque, Classic French Onion Soup, Braised Roswell, New Mexico Lamb Shank, Veal Picatta, and ‘Coffee & Doughnuts’ desert. The Orange Sesame Shrimp appetizer was a fail in flavor, but worth the adventure. The service was perfection and professional, and allowed me to focus on my husband and our conversation. Dinner for Two is an excellent place to have a flavor-filled romantic dinner. We will be back often."

"I heard so many good things about this restaurant. Upon arriving passing through the kitchen to the host/hostess stand we were greeted with a "Hello" (perhaps the Chef). The waiter checking us in lead us to believe he had a speech impediment as not a word was uttered. Voicing my displeasure with the location of our table, surprise, words were spoken. He explained why why he seated us in a more private area away from the hub of the dining area with all the other guests. The service was efficient albeit very stiff. Not once did the waitress check on us except to clear a plate when I was not finished. Portions were small, my risotto so salty I could not finish it. I did note that to our waitress but at my behest."

"as a foodie myself I was a little put off by the seemingly unfriendly "room chef". I think he's the Chef's father. He doesn't seem very happy. Other than that, the menu is definitely dated and the presentations are not very crisp. Overall the food tasted good but is pricey."

"Excellent food, best fillet I've had in New Mexico. Tuna and lamb also got RAVE reviews. Cozy environmant, wonderful two person band, acoustic guitar and stand up base created a wonderful ambiance. We were a group of four adults and had a great time there."

"Problem with service. Server apparently figured we didn't count, and things like bread got "forgotten" for us (but not for other diners). Maybe because we're Los Alamos scientists and not totally fashionable, maybe also because there was an important judge across the room (as they came over and told the guitarist to go meet.) The servers were converging on a few tables on the side - must've been important people. Complained to the manager, and it got better. But - apparently they didn't want our business, and would prefer that we go elsewhere in the future. Lots of restaurants in Santa Fe. The food was quite good, as was the wine, but the experience left a bad taste. We shall not be back."

"We usually make Dinner for Two our pre-Santa Fe Opera dinner choice a couple of times each summer, usually choosing from their tasting menu. So we were primed to take advantage of a birthday coupon that came in the mail and had to be used by the end of February. We talked friends in Santa Fe into joining us. Both couples were delighted to discover that our Sunday reservation coincided with Dinner for Two's Sunday special 3-course dinner for $19. The options were abundant and everyone agreed that their choices were excellent. The staff were very good about being sure that our friends finished in time to get to a show that evening."
