Nuvolari's
In January of 1982 after establishing Jacmel Inn, a fine dining restaurant, and Brady’s Grill and Bar in Hammond, Hoot Owl owners Paul Murphy and Rick Colucci along with Mandeville native Wallace Simmons took over the lease of the former Prieto Dry Goods store on Girod street in Mandeville. Paul, Rick and Wallace completely remodeled the interior on their own with a vision to bring a classical New York style dining room to the quiet North Shore town. The extensive remodeling was an example of keeping the unique New Orleans style structure outside intact while creating a rich restaurant experience inside.
Upon entering the foyer of Nuvolari's, you can tell that a unique restaurant lies before you. Rich hues of wood and soft lighting create an aura of sophistication that relaxes patrons and prepares them for a wonderful dining experience.

"The dining experience was great overall! The atmosphere was very pleasant. I like that it is not too loud. The wine selection is awesome. I like that the menu is not extensive. You have just enough variations of food cuisines to choose from. I think I've ordered every item on the menu at least once from past dining occasions, and they are all very good!"

"The Staff amd Food at Nuvolari's made a special dinner event even more special with the excellent food and the very special attention they gave us. We had the Grouper, Veal, and Mixed Seafood Main Courses and they were all excellent. The "snails & tails" and oyster appetizer s were also delicious. We all loved the bread pudding, white chocolate cheesecake, and flourless chocolate cake."

"We went to Nuvolari's as a birthday celebration. Were not expecting to even get reservations as our plans fell on Mother's Day! While there was a special menu, most of the regular items were included. Steaks were prepared as requested. A special request for a side dish change was accommodated by the Chef. Food was well-prepared and presented. A bit noisier as we dined early and there were children due to Mother's Day, but not annoyingly so."

"I first dined at Nuvolari's nearly 30 years ago. I returned recently for a friend's birthday and found it to be a lovely experience. The service was prompt and friendly. The waiter was knowledgable, did not hover, but was always there at the right times. A very nice variety on the menu. I will happily return as soon as possible."

"We had 4 in our group. Two of the entrees were very good, the steak and the fish dish. I had a duck dish that was the special and it was poor. The serving dish for the duck was a tilted bowl - so hard to see and cut the duck slices. The flavors were weird with the duck and vegetable with it. Hard to describe, but not good. The other dish that was poor was the chicken monterey. It was a pasta and chicken dish that they melted a layer of mozzarella over

"I rarely indulge in fried food, but I chose wisely when I selected the fried eggplant and shrimp app. The eggplant was fried perfectly: crisp and dry. The shrimp were perfectly cooked-still succulent and the sauce was a great complement to the dish.

"Food was very good. The wedge salad and tomato basil soup were hits. Everyone enjoyed their entree. The veal Marsala was delicious, and the filet was cooked perfectly. The desserts were just okay. The Death By Chocolate was dry and tasted like the refrigerator. The creme brûlée was runny. The white chocolate cheesecake and rum cake were the best. However, the paper menus were nasty!! They all had grease stains, and the dessert menu had coffee stains to accompany the grease stains. If this is what the public sees, I wonder what the kitchen looks like?"

"As always, the food was fabulous! Unfortunately we had a reservation and arrived just before the scheduled time. The hostess seated us right next to the bar in the area that used to be a waiting area. The noise and crowd from the bar were constantly flowing over into our conversation. At one point people waiting for a table were standing directly behind me and bumping me with their purses! Doesn't really help a Valentine's dinner!"

"only complaint are uncomfortable chairs. The food was excellent. We sat in the back room and it was pretty quiet, but going through the main room to arrive and leave was a huge sound difference. The front part of the restaurant is really noisy."
