Las Palomas Restaurant-Bar
Las Palomas Restaurant was founded by the late Javier Corona and his wife, Amelia, in 1983. Javier was a retired diplomat and an accomplished artist-- his art can be seen hanging on the walls of Las Palomas. Amelia traveled Mexico and the world with Javier, gathering recipes and sharpening her skills as a superb chef and hostess. With Javier’s taste and style and Amelia's ability to implement and refine their creations in the kitchen, they produced the unique dining experience of Las Palomas.
Las Palomas relishes the essence of this unique dining experience. Mealtime is very important in Mexican culture; it is a time dedicated to the enjoyment of food and family. This unhurried experience cultivates the enjoyment of building family bonds. The recipes are from the interior of Mexico, from Veracruz to Yucatan to Oaxaca. These "heirloom" recipes are several generations old. They are complemented with new offerings that continue the restaurant's commitment to quality and freshness.

"We celebrated my birthday with my favorite margarita and a couple of chef selections from the menu. Everything was perfect. If you haven't tried it, the Chicken with Pecan Sauce is delectable. And you can't beat the garlic shrimp plate. What a beautiful dining room!"

"Las Palomas sells super fresh Mexican food and great drinks, and they have a wonderful outdoor patio that is shaded. My friend loved her ceviche and thought it was the best she had ever had. I had a fajita salad and the chicken was spicy and delicious and the salad was cheesy. Their house margaritas are a tad limey (sour more than sweet) and refreshing in the Texas heat. I'd definitely eat here again the next time I'm in Austin."

"Our group was visiting Austin from out of town. We were looking for classic Mexican fare and Las Palomas did not disappoint. We were all very pleased with the quality of the food, the attention and enthusiasm from the wait staff and the comfortable dining environment. So many of the newer generation Mexican eateries are a full frontal assault on the senses. By contrast, Las Palomas presented a wide variety of delicious, classic Mexican ( not Tex-Mex ) dishes that satisfied without overwhelming. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and made us feel at home. We all commented that it was "just what we wanted" and we "wouldn't have changed a thing". This family owned restaurant has been getting it just right for over 30+ years."

"We had the Mother's Day luncheon and it was terrific. The paella was great. We took about 20% of it home and had it for lunch the next day. Every bit of it delicious. The flan is the best in Austin. We are trying to get Mariecarmen to make paella a regular item for Saturday evenings.
Service started ab it slow, but then turned into the usual great service.
A fine experience; as was Valentine's Day; and as it always is."

"The food, service and entertainment was good. We sat directly in front of the 3 person band and were able to carry a conversation without any problem. We celebrated a birthday and the band was kind enough to play a birthday tune. My only complaint is; because we brought our own birthday dessert in, we were charged an extra $1.25 per person. Based on what we spent at this restaurant, I felt this was unnecessary and very petty."

"We dined on Saturday night while Las Palomas had an amazing flamenco band performing. They were a wonderful addition to the restaurant's atmosphere without blaring us out, so we could still have a conversation at the table. I had a Las Palomas Margarita that was very fresh, not overly sweetened like the corn syrup filled mixes used at most texmex spots. Food was pretty standard, I didn't find our entrees to have much seasoning, perhaps they keep it tame for the older Westlake crowd. My date ordered the Mole enchiladas after much acclaim and she said "meh." Overall was a fun evening and I would go back, though I feel there are several other restaurants in town that have yummier Interior Mexican recipes. Go for the flamenco on Saturday!"

"Waitress very nice and attentive. I liked the choices they gave you with their preselected menu for Valentines and everything was wonderful. I really enjoyed the Poblano pepper cream soup with a sour cream heart shape floating on top. The stuffed bell pepper wasdelicious and so different. My husband got the Salmon and it was flakey and the sauce was very light with some spice but just right. The flan was amazing with the Gran Marnier sauce and I really liked the fact that it was not overwhelmingly sweet. We had nice bottle of bubbly proseco and really enjoyed the entire evening. We will be going back before we need any special event to go there."

"I had read that Las Palomas is a neighborhood gem, which is my favorite kind of restaurant. So, even though its not my neighborhood, we drove to eat there. LOVED it. SO glad we did. Everyone at the table had fantastic food. The service was top notch. I wish we lived closer we'd go every week. As it is, we'll be going back regardless."
