The views, the food, and the atmosphere combine to make Sandiago's Mexican Grill an excellent choice for lunch or dinner. Sandiago's is located at the base of the Sandia Peak Tramway, in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. The perch above the city gives the restaurant the best views of any restaurant in Albuquerque. Readers of Local IQ recently voted Sandiago's Mexican Grill "Best Restaurant with a view." People flock to the windows and patio to view the city lights and spectacular sunsets. The food is just as spectacular as the sunsets. The meal starts with our home made chips and pico de gallo. The entrees range from traditional New Mexican selections of enchiladas and burritos to the house specialties from coastal Mexico. The Baja Tacos, Mahi Mahi in a creamy white wine garlic broth and grilled Salmon with a three pepper glaze are local favorites. The hand crafted over-sized margaritas and Doogie's Mojito are some of the best drinks in town.
"I asked for a window table and the guest in front of us that did not have a reservation was given out table, (I only know this because the hostess and waiter were talking about it). So instead of the window view I had the wall view. Our waiter was not very attentive, we were out of chips and never was asked if we wanted more, our water glasses were empty and he asked if we wanted more water. Really they were empty..... Brought us the check and didn't ever ask if we wanted dessert. We spend over $100 and should of gotten much better service."

"It is still a pretty noisey place. They could use sound deadening techniques. Food is good and service was was very efficient. Still better than El Pinto by far..."

"I recently spent three days in Albuquerque on business. Ate out every night. This place was by far the best dinner our group of four had. Good service. Good atmosphere. Good food. When I make a return trip I will be sure to eat here again."

"Went here on a recent Saturday night to celebrate a graduation and had a great time, great food and an awesome view. Sandiagos is NOT a tourist trap despite being attached to the most popular tourist destination in Albuquerque, The Tram. It is a great restaurant with traditional and gourmet Mexican food coupled with outstanding service and an incredible view of the Albuquerque valley. The manager was very attentive as well as his staff and everyone ensured we had a great dining experience. The ambience is bright and festive and there is a well appointed bar. There is also patio dining looking out over Albuquerque but any seat inside is a great view as well. We will definitely be coming back and telling others about Sandiagos!"

"We usually have good service, but for some reason our last visit was disappointing. I walked up to the hostess booth and had to wait for the girl to finish her text before she acknowledged we were standing there. Then we waited longer than usual for our food to come out and then to top it off, we were missing silverware. We had to ask 3 times for utensils and about 10 minutes after our food was brought out were we able to start eating. The outdoor patio is nice, especially at sunset."

"Was a little too noisy and had to wait past the reservation time but they were very busy that night and work hard to accomodate everyone. I have never not had a good time at the grill! My favorite spot in Abq."

"After reading all the positive reviews, we were excited to try Sandiago's; however, the experience was a big let down. We made reservations for 7:30 and arrived on time. We were seated in the dining room, but after ten minutes our server had not come to our table. We could hear the other diners complaining about service, so we moved to the bar without having ever been helped in the dining room. Once at the bar, the service was better but not great. The margaritas tasted old and watered down. The food was acceptable, but boring and bland. The server who had never helped us in the dining area kept hanging our behind the bar complaining to the bartender, which took her attention away from the patrons and made us uncomfortable."

"Service was great. We unintentionally showed up 30 minutes before our reservations and we were still seated immediately! My special request to have a seat by the window for a coveted view of the city was granted. Nice anniversary dinner! Tasty, progressive New Mexican menu!"

"As has happened more than once when dining at Sandiago's, we had placed the reservation, but still saw several parties who came in after us be seated first. Our wait was about 20 minutes. An odd thing occurred with our waiter. 2 people in our party ordered regular Baja Tacos. However when the waiter brought them to our table, he said, "I keyed in the Tacos as the Mah (an upcharge), so if you don't like them I will reduce the charge to the regular price." I do not believe this is normal business practice. (On a side note, those same two diners had serious GI repercussions later that evening - makes me wonder if they had some old Mahi they were trying to unload) Otherwise, the service was forgettable, food was ok, view was spectacular."

"I would compare this restaurant to a cross between Taco Bell and Waffle House. Service was slow and the food was just okay. If I had it to do over again, I'd skip this place and try somewhere different. Don't bother with reservations because they don't honor the time reserved. I reserved through open table and called to confirm with Jason. Anthony was our waiter. It was a bad experience for my family."

"Our close friends from the neighborhood are moving from Albuquerque. 8 of us went to dinner to celebrate their time with us in the neighborhood. There is a semi private dining room behind the bar that we asked to be seated in by the windows. Sandiago's has great views of the city from the base of the Tram. Sunsets are fantatstic! The room behind the bar is out of the hustle and bustle of the main restaurant room. Great place to sit and talk. Everyone ordered something different from the menu. All the food was delicious. For the people who were leaving - they had never been to Sandiago's, because the wife did not think she could get a non-spicey dish. Imagine her surprise that 90% of the menu could be cooked to her not spicey specifications!"

"We ordered a variety of entrees and they were all really good. The pico de gallo and salsa was delicious. Chips could've been hot/warmed and they would have been excellent. No one in our party liked the green rice side. Just nothing "interesting" about the flavor - pretty bland. Overall it was a pleasant experience with an amazing view of the city. We plan to return in the warmer months to enjoy the outdoor patio."

"We were a little disappointed in that we had requested window seating so our out of town guests could see the city lights. When we arrived the window seating was full. So much for reservations. The waiter was however very friendly and offered great service. I would like to see Senior menu or smaller serving sizes for seniors. Since is was National Margurieta day we had to try the drinks. We were enjoying catching up after five years that we lost track of the time and the bartender came to our table to ask for the empty glasses."

"I made reservations for Valentine's Day for me and my wife. We arrived promptly for our reservation and were greeted by a friendly and courteous staff. There was just enough time for a well-mixed drink at the bar before our window table was ready, providing the most gorgeous night view of the Albuquerque city lights imaginable. The flower bouquet I had ordered online arrived just as we were being seated-perfect timing for a perfect evening. Our waitress was friendly, courteous and extremely knowledgeable about their special menu for the evening. We took her advise and enjoyed a perfectly prepared Surf and Turf meal. The steak was a superb medium rare and was tender enough to be cut with a butter knife. It made for an incredible evening."

"We have dined at Sandiago's before and found the food, service, ambiance and setting as great as before. We were pleasantlyi suprised at some of the new additions to the menue such as the "red" or "green" rice side dish selections. As always, our food on this night was great and reflected the uniqueness of the SW and fine Southwestern cuisine."
