"Arrived early, seated late, but finished with plenty of time to make our show. The hostess was reassuring about time and was right, but crowded doorway to stand in was not pleasant. Table made sangria was terrific, as we're most of our meals. Avoid sugarcane chicken salad, loved the pineapple chicken and side of garlic spinach. Very loud, music level was not necessary, made it very hard to converse at our table of 6."

"The place is really nice ,and the food is decent , I really liked the appetizers . we had empanda and stuff avocado with lobster .as for the entrees I had ropa vieja with yellow rice . I feel that the yellow rice was bland, but ok."

"A little bit disappointing because the mofongo wasn't the same, the strip steak wasn't seasoned and the 18% tip included for 2 people wasn't OK for an underwhelming service. Good black bean soup and goat cheese empanadas though. I was asked in the beginning if it's my first time there, i said it was my second time and if I knew it was my last one as well..."

"This is a great place to go before a show. Grab a Mojito at the bar, some tapas or one of their flavorful entrees and you're ready to go back out into the Times Square craze or off to a Broadway show. Always a reliable restaurant with friendly staff."

"My wife and I wanted something different for lunch on our way to a Broadway play and we were not disappointed. The empanadas, the tamales, and most of all, the tres leches cake, were exceptional as was the service. It's a busy place with constant background music, but you can still have a conversation without raising your voice. Great for lunch, but probably not for dinner."

"we were relegated to upstairs which we thought was a blessing due to the noise downstairs. That soon changed as 2 large groups were seated and carried on as if they were 12 year olds. No one asked them to keep it down. Conversation was not possible for other diners. We were seated at a cocktail table with short little chairs so difficult for anyone not tall to eat. I would not return."

"The food was incredibly good, the service was really attentive and the whole ambiance of the place made me feel like Hemingway was going to be sitting at the bar. The mofongo with ropa viejo was more than enough for 2 people. The guava ribs were outstanding and the maduros were perfect. I would visit this restaurant again in a heartbeat."

"I have been to this restaurant 5 or 6 times, but this time around the food was not good. The sampler appetizer was cold, The main course meal was a mofongo that was really bad. My husband had the pork it was cold and dry. my friend who i recommended the restaurant to had the rice and chicken that was tasteless and no chicken. I was really dissapointed."

"This is a fun loud place, great for large parties or an early dinner before a show. We used to go to Victor's but found the food at Havana Central more consistent. The pork is always wonderful and the prices are reasonable. The only draw back is that the last time we went our entrees arrived less than 5 minutes after we ordered it and not much after our appetizer was served, so hold off ordering the entrée if you are not in a hurry."

"I work near Havana Central and have gone there for happy hour and maybe a meal at the bar. I don't remember feeling the need to go back but a visitor to my office asked me to take her for some Cuban food so I decided to try it again mostly out of convenience. The food was surprisingly very good. Service was good too but at the lunch hour on a rainy day, the restaurant was not very busy. The weekday lunch specials are a decent deal for Midtown. For $12.95 you get an entree with 2 choices out of rice, plantains or beans. The portions are big."

"this was a great spot for a pre-theater dinner. it's nice to eat something else than italian! the food was good and the portions were large. our only complaint was that the courses arrived much too quickly. they were taking away our guacamole and chips to serve our main dish as we were still eating the appetizer. the wine list is definitely lacking but the sangria is good."

"The pork shank was phenomenally good, as were the guava-glazed ribs, and I ordered an extra side of black beans to take home with the rest of my huge portion of ribs. Skip the chicken & pork bits appetizer; they're not worth the money or the calories. Have the fried plantains instead. But don't go to this place expecting quiet conversation and pleasant background music. The volume of noise makes diners have to shout just to be heard, even sitting two feet from each other. The problem was exacerbated by the pre-theatre crowd, but it was present before 6PM as well. (You know a restaurant is noisy when the streets of Times Square sound quiet by comparison.)"

"jeffrey was our waiter. he was great! (I hope the restaurant manager reads this). He was attentive and funny. I drank my first glass of White Sangria so quickly, that he said "Oh. I must have forgotten to serve you!" as he walked by, stopping to fill it again. How nice to have a waiter with a sense of humor-and i have been there at least 8 times!"

"The place has very good service and decent food. One appetizer came out barely heated. Rice and beans should also have been served hot. They were lukewarm. Our waiter graciously replaced the cold appetizer and was very concerned about his guests. All in all, a great dinner before taking in a show."

"My girlfriend and I, went to the restaurant on Saturday May, 4th. The avocado with lobster salad appetizer was delicious. The braised pork with yucca mash was amazing. I was very hesitant at first before making a reservation, but the Cuban food combined with live Salsa music made this place an execellent choice. This is a place you definitely have to experience. FYI the Copacabana is one avenue away, just in case you feel the need to dance."

"Had dinner there with a group of six. Place was mobbed. Very ethic clientele assumed the place is likely authentic with good food. Decor is nice. Service was spotty at best, maybe too many tables. Empanadas, both chicken and beef great. Plantains and sweet bananas, awesome. Pernil Asado absolute heaven. Moist well seasoned very tasty. Rice and black beans also fantastic. Two had the Pineapple Chicken Pollo con Piña, both enjoyed the dish very much. I had Seafood Paella, all I can say traditional Paella is NOT tomato based or certainly tomato is not the prevalent ingredient. Not good at all. The shrimp mofongo was also not very good too soupy. All in all, very good place and food. Will be back, better informed at what to order and expect."

"I made a reservation for 6 people for a celebration - coworkers came from all over the city, paid for parking, and met at Havana Central. When I went in, about three minutes before the reservation time, to tell them we were there, the hostess asked me to have a seat in a waiting area and went to speak to another hostess. They both approached me to tell me the water had been shut off, and therefore no one was being seated and no food was being served. They had no estimation of when the water would come on. When I asked them if they had planned to contact the customers with reservations to alert them, they both just shrugged. They couldn't recommend one other place nearby. We paid for our parking, and left - I won't be back."

"After reading some of the reviews here I was hesitant on even making a reservation but we decided to give it a try...SO GLAD WE DID! So close to Time Square, it made it so convenient to get it after our show. We were greeted/seated immediately. Our server was super attentive and accommodating to say the least. Everything sounded so good on the menu which made it difficult to decide and when we got our food we were not disappointed. Everything was flavorful, nice sized portions just perfect. I know home-made Cuban food and this is legit tasting Cuban food! Apart from the food, drinks were on pint from the bar as well. All in all, glad I went with my gut and not just by the mixed bag of reviews. I will definitely be back!"

"We are regulars at Havana Central! The food is delicious! We were celebrating our friend's birthday, so we ordered several appetizers to make it more festive. The pulled pork guava taquitos were especially delicious so we just had to get another order!"

"THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC.WHEN I WAS GROWING UP MY FATHERS BEST FRIEND WAS CUBAN. EVERY YEAR ON 4TH OF JULY HE MADE PAELLA AND IT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE SUMMER. THEIR PAELLA TOOK ME BACK TO MY CHILDHOOD AND THAT WONDERFUL PAELLA. THERE WAS 4 OF US AND WE HAD A SAMPLING OF THE MENU. EVERYTHING WAS WONDERFUL FROM THE MUFANGO TO THE RIBS. THE ONLY THING WE ALL DIDN'T LIKE WAS THE CORN ON THE COB ON THE SAMPLER APPETIZER PLATTER. NO ONE ENJOYED THAT. WE ALL AGREED THIS PLACE WAS ON OUR LIST FOR DO OVERS. I DO RECOMMEND MAKING A RESERVATION AS THE PLACE WAS PACKED AND THEY WERE TURNING PEOPLE AWAY WHO DID NOT HAVE RESERVATIONS."

"Havana Central is a fun place; I love the atmosphere and the music. I definitely would return as I enjoy the food. I had the chicken in garlic sauce which was so good! My friend had the skirt steak which tastes well. The waitress was fantastic, patient and very helpful. All in all, everything was great and I recommend this place to my family & friends."

"This is the second time I go there because of the food, which is not outstanding, but pretty good Cuban food near my house. SErvice is consistently bad. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by these unhappy girls who state that the wait is going to be long, EVEN IF YOU HAVE A RESERVATION, because "they get tons of reservations"....not sure how to translate that...
At the table, waiters are super busy and confused. I got something different from what I ordered.
And you better finish your meal quickly! because they will almost push you out the door when they see that you're done and not ordering anything else."

"We found the food to be shockingly lacking in taste. The appetizer (the mariquitas) was cold and you could tell that they had not been made fresh. The vaca frita was entirely too well done and extremely dry. The dish is rather well done and a bit dry but both characteristics were extreme in this instance. The pork mofongo was also not very tasty and the pork was full of grizzle and fat; hard to eat when you've got to fish for edible food. The service is good; the folks very friendly. But, the food at Victor's Cafe is better --though both are overpriced, but I guess the location in NYC will dictate that. Disappointing experience."
