Shortly after the original Sant Ambroeus opened its doors in Milan in 1936, a devoted following emerged. This celebrated pasticceria and confetteria became the meeting place for the local intelligentsia, whether beginning their day with Sant Ambroeus’s legendary cappuccino and cornetto, savoring panini at lunch, or spending their evening enjoying refined cuisine in the restaurant’s elegant dining room. We translated these old-world sensibilities of Sant Ambroeus to modern times, and imported our rich culinary traditions to New York. Each of our restaurants remains authentic to our Milanese origins, and we continue to serve our culturally inspired delectables in a casual yet elegant environment.
"The place is really small but cozy and delivers everything you expect from an upscale restaurant. Food, service and ambiance will never make you regret to spend more than the average in the West Village scene. Worth every penny and every minute you spend there, including the long waiting for a table."

"This was a wonderful experience! It's a small, charming room and we sat in the booth towards the back. The food was excellent; the lentil salad to start, the tagliatelle with a light veal ragout and both the seared salmon and grilled sea bass entrees. The friendly, welcoming service was a highlight and our server, Julia was a particular standout in the NYC restaurant world."

"How are they able to get better and better? Is that even possible? The salads, soups, entrees, desserts, coffee, chocolates, staff, location. This is the perfect restaurant!"

"I was there for dinner and always happy but Brunch is something special. Same food, same staff but the ambiance is at least vibrating and celebrities show up any minute. Again, great experience in the best downtown Restaurant!!"

"The food is to die for. Its a bit pricey, but not totally unreasonable for a special event. I love that they offer a wide variety for their lunch special for restaurant week. I heavily recommend the panna cotta, especially if your mean is on the heavy side - its a nice clean finish. The gelatto is also very good."

"Sant Ambroeus was a nice enough experience, but would have been less so if we'd been in a hurry. We went for lunch during restaurant week (Jan 2013) and had significant waits in between courses, though the restaurant did not appear overcrowded. The servers were professional and pleasant but inattentive, and of the food, only the baked goods were anything to write home about. Bread-basket at the start of the meal and signature chocolate cake at the end were outstanding. Shaved artichoke salad and pasta carbonara in between, however, felt uninspired and were weakly flavored. Enjoyed the atmosphere."
