10 Degrees South is the only restaurant of it's kind in the USA, specializing in South African cuisine. South African cuisine is a fusion of French, Portuguese, Dutch, German & Malaysian cuisines with strong Mediterranean influences. The restaurant was founded in 1998 in a small bungalow in Buckhead Atlanta. Six years later, inspiration was taken from the sophisticated & modern hotels of Cape Town to transform 10 Degrees South. 10 Degrees South offers the passion for life which means the love of friends, family, food & drink!

"Absolutely wonderful! The food was excellent and unique to the Atlanta food scene. The atmosphere was very much out of a high end South Africa restaurant...warm, sophisticated and romantic. A rare treat of a restaurant."

"Was not impressed wih food, although it didn't taste bad, it just wasn't fine dinning at all. The Sambals were completely cheap and cheesey.
The restaurant decoration is aweful and the place didn't feel romantic at all.
The service was very good, very attentive and pleasant.
Not going back, the food is not worth the price, it felt cheap and wasn'r crazy about the presentation either."

"Initially, there was trouble finding our reservation. I found my dishes, the dried beef and ostrich to be bland. The former was fatty and left a greasy taste/coating in my mouth. The latter was skimpy; three thin pieces for $30 did not seem a good buy. My wife's entree, two days later, is unmemorable; although she found it chewy/tough. Her appetizer, the chicken spring rolls, was very good. We had the cheese cake for dessert, but found it disappointing compared to its menu description. The coffee was pleasantly strong and the wine was perfect. Overall, we found it a relatively pleasant experience, but not one we would repeat."

"My husband and I visited for the first time to celebrate our equivalent of "Valentine's Day." The ambiance was inviting and the food delicious! We both enjoy more flavorful foods and the starter platter was a perfect selection to sample multiple items. My favorite was the lamb chops, although the prawn piri-piri was a close second. The only negative, which we had already read in other reviews, was the mediocre wine selection. I would (and already have) recommended this restaurant."

"10 Degrees South was not good. The server seemed to know more about Paris Hilton than the menu and the food was BLAND. My girlfriend had the bone in rib-eye and there is no doubt in my mind that I would favor a Outback or Longhorns steak to what 10 Degrees South was able to produce.

10 Degrees South also requires valet. I really dislike being required to valet at a non-descript location in the middle of nowhere on Roswell Road. Leave the valet for the big boys in more dense developments where parking is an actual headache for patrons. There is no need for someone to walk 20 yards to get my car for me when I can see it from the front door.

A few positives...the lobster spring rolls were good and the South African wine was good"

"My wife and celebrated valentine night @ 10 degree south.
Every was ok not exceptional as we expected. I beleive opentable ranking about the restaurant is a bit misleading. Food was good, but the seating are too close to one onather and they are not comfortable."

"We had a fabulous time at 10DS. I took my two teenagers and one of their friends and we ate everything on the menu. The mussels were fantastic as were the Peri Peri Prawns (very spicy). My son enjoyed the sausages and the lobster spring rolls (that evenings special appetizer) were crunchy, flavorful and suprisingly light. I had the Kingclip as an entree...this is a flaky white fish in a buttery lemon sauce. My son had the special, mahi mahi with a spicy blue crab sauce. He loved the spice. The girls had a vegatable curry and the skewered beef with apricot curry. We all pounced on the skewered beef and my daughter had to call a halt to sharing so that she could get some dinner. The best desert was the tropical cheese cake."

"We were excited about returning to this restaurant, and were not disappointed! The service was impeccable and the food outstanding. They have a waite staff here that is second to none. The selection of food is varied so that everyone in our party found something really special to their tastes. The prices are reasonable, so one doesn't have to save this restaurant for only special occasions; but, dining here makes the event a special one! BRAVO!!!"

"My husband and I really enjoyed 10 Degrees South. He especially enjoyed the ostrich, which was absolutely amazing, though my prawns were outstanding, too. The service was excellent and we even found a new wine we love. I would not hesitate to go back... next time, I'm ordering the ostrich!"

"Wasn't expecting too much and them bam, it had a good atmosphere and the food was really good. It was the appetizers that shine the most, taste better then some of the entrees. I was with a group of 10 so we got to try a variety of items. The wine list and choices, outstanding! It's probably one of the best lists I have ever seen in ATLANTA. A lot of variety and international choices, I'd visit again just for the wine."

"I had been to South Africa last year and had been craving some traditional food, and 10 Degrees South provided just that. Our waiter was from Capetown, which made the experience even more authentic. "I took my husband to this restaurant for his birthday and he absolutely LOVED IT. He loved the food, the ambience, the decor of the restaurant and the service. We thoroughly enjoyed ourself. Even though I won't consider 10 Degrees South a Kid-Friendly restaurant, my husband wanted to celebrate his birthday with the entire famiy and the staff was very accomodating by seating us in a private area with our 7 month old daughter, which added more to having a wonderful romantic evening.

My husband was very pleased with his dining experience for his birthday and so was I."

"Everything was amazing. We couldn't have asked for a better date night. The staff was so helpful and knew answers to all of our questions. The food...well, I almost cried tasting the escargot. Great environment, and so relaxing. Not many restaurants just allow their customers to hang out and unwind. We kept saying how it felt like this could be our home. I would recommend to everyone."

"10 Degrees South is a fun, upbeat restaurant! We have always been impressed with the food, service & atmosphere. One of my favorite spots to go for drinks & dessert! We were very disappointed with the service on New Year's Eve. It was extremely surprising! Our waitress seemed to forget everything, including US! It was difficult to get her attention, and she rarely came by to check on us. "Where's my drink?!" was a regular saying at our table. Other than our waitress, everything was perfect! Natalie, hostess extraordinaire, was so helpful throughout the reservation process, and the several additions/subtraction in guests on our reservation for party night! It was a delight to thank her in person for her help! Fantastic food, we will be back!"

"DO NOT GO HERE. This place is terrible.
My wife and I went for news years eve 2009.
When we made enquiries they told us there ould be a variety of live music, champagne toast etc.
The music was one guy with a guitar, at the bar, who sang on and off.
The champagne was just CHEAP white wine.
The service was absolutely terrible. The dessert we wanted was not available.
The starter was cheap frozen food but the steak was average, however very small.
Overall I would rather stay at home. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!"

"10 Degrees South has been one of my favorite Atlanta restaurants for a while. This time we started with the lobster spring rolls special, which was excellent. I had the Sosaties, which had a great flavor, but the meat was a bit tough. My date had the Cape Kingklip (sp?) fish and her face literally lit up when she took the first bit. She raved about it.My one, consistent gripe is that the sides are rather boring (most entrees are served with rice). Not bad, but boring. I'm guessing the approach is to be more authentic, but I'd like to see some more interesting sides."

"First time here and absolutely loved it. Price was reasonable, and the food was great. The bar scene was wonderful and I couldn't like the heated deck/patio more. Its a great place for couples or groups. Actually we ate nothing but appetizers (couldn't choose from the entree menu) and those were absolutely delicious. Will go again."

"10 Degrees South is a great place to enjoy fine dining. South African food with fusion just explodes in your mouth with each bite. I had their Calamari, Crab Cakes, Ostrich, Rack of Lamb and paired it with their Merlot. It was all great and i have no room to complain because all the room was taken up by the absolutely scrumptious food.
I would recommend this place to everyone and i will definitely make it a point to go back for another great night out."

"Dining experience was outstanding. All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our food from appetizer through dessert and the service was attentive but not over-bearing. Dining is separated from the bar where they had live music and the blend was just right as we could hear ourselves talk while a vibrant bar scene was just around the corner. The heated outdoor patio looks a great place to enjoy a nightcap, though we did not take advatage of it this time. A great find in Buckhead."
