A 2009 San Francisco Chronicle Bay Area Top 100 Restaurant. Willi’s Wine Bar's classic roadhouse appeal captures the casual, laid-back nature of the Sonoma County Wine Country. Tourists and locals feel equally at home enjoying a quick bite or lingering over a glass of wine. The menu at Willi's features 32 international small plates, some wildly inventive and others comfortingly familiar. The knowledgeable staff is eager to help create perfect pairings with wines from the extensive wine list. Diners will find a dazzling array of wines by local producers and are likely to find the winemakers themselves at a nearby table. All wines are available in a two-ounce taste as well as by the glass or bottle. Patio dining is covered and heated.

"Looks like a local's bar from the street but it's got a great courtyard and very good food. All small plates you can share. The shrimp, the scallops, the lamb chop's were highlights. Lots of choices for a cheese plate. Skip the potstickers.

"I love tapas and was excited to come here, especially after reading the great reviews. We arrived on a busy Saturday evening but were seated right away with our Open Table reservations. We chose the outside patio to enjoy the beautiful evening, under the heaters it was perfect into the later evening. Our service was exemplary, friendly staff and helpful with our selections. The food was beyond good, each dish was an experience of flavors. I would highly recommend this restaurant to foodies and anyone who enjoys trying something new. I live out of the area but am already looking for a excuse to visit again so I can come back and try more items on the menu."

"Went with a group of male co-workers and I was worried the "small plates" would leave them hungry. However, if you order enough of them and focus on the more substantial choices, you will be stuffed by the end of the evening. Our "quick dinner" lasted more than 3 hours due to the relaxed pace and steady flow of tapas coming from the kitchen. Service was very good, our server had a great knowledge of all the wines - we basically told her our preferences and she brought out her suggestions. Everyone was spot on! The BBQ duck with polenta got rave reviews, and I especially enjoyed the beet salad. Save room for dessert - the chocolate cake was delicious! Would definitely return in I'm in the area!"

"We ordered several excellent small plates. Most notable were the Goat Cheese Fritters with Blistered cherry Tomatoes, the Crispy Pork Riblets (tender, flavorful and a generous serving) and Moroccan Style Lamb Chops (simply outstanding!). We selected the flight of Sonoma County wines with our meal, followed by a Madeira with our dessert of flourless chocolate cake and vanilla bean ice cream. Our server was helpful, attentive and gracious. All in all a lovely way to end the week."

"Great food, very varied selection in the menu - wonderful place to try a bit of everything. Our server, Hanna, was very friendly and accommodating. The downsides are: the chairs inside and out are pretty uncomfortable, and the noise level is pretty high - we were glad we had a corner to dull some of the noise. Try the filet mignon sliders, and the arugula endive salad - both were wonderful. We would come back for the food, but may be deterred by the noise level."

Friendly attentive service, with quick, well sequenced delivery. The "Fish & Chips" with well seasoned fried sardines and homemade chips was a high point, just beating out the lovely "mac&cheese". "Have been wanting to eat here for some time. Extensive menu and will certainly be back to try more items. Enjoyed the roadhouse ambiance and service was pretty good if not particularly warm. So many small plate choices!
Oysters on the half were just ok but the asparagus was prepared beautifully and was perhaps the best I have ever tasted.
Pork belly pat stickers were overcooked and dry, i'm sure this doesn't happen too often after reading other posters comments.
Filet mignon sliders were excellent as was the meat charcuterie sampler.
It should be noted we had a late reservation and the hits far outweighed the misses. Can't wait to try more items on our next visit!"

"Seriously the best lunch my husband and I had in wine country this weekend. I have eaten here years ago remembering it to be good but it was much better than I remember. The oysters were the best I've had."

"if you go be sure to request outdoor seating - we did not know to do this and got stuck inside despite having made our reservation weeks in advance. there are some very bad, dark and noisy seats if you are not specific in your seating request. the food was fabulous as was the service. fun place to try different things."

"Innovative menu and we loved the food. Wished the truffle fries were crisp rather than soggy, but the flavor was amazing. We were seated outdoor at street edge of canvas wall. Traffic is fast and noisy there. We did not ask to be moved, but probably should have as there were other options. Pricey, but a fun splurge."

"Hopefully we just caught a bad night...Oysters to start were very average. Macaroni dish was delivered not lukewarm but cold. We sent it back. Filet Sliders and shrimp dish were both good. Salads were average to good."

"Unprofessional service almost spoils the quality food. Have not been to Willi's in many years and may not go back in many more. After waiting to order course 2 +3 we try to make eye contact with our server, fail. So I nicely say "excuse me" and a second female server walks toward my table me and with no smile says "are you talking to me?" instead of "can I help you" or "can I get your waitress for you?" or something from hospitality101. Warmth & professionalism would have made a much more enjoyable meal."

"Took a friend from out of town on her first visit to the wine country. She loved it! The food was great (we went through 5 small plates starting with fish and ending with the turf) then a crepe dessert. All were outstanding. The wine flights were delicious and gave her a really good intro to how great Sonoma County is."

"We recently visited Willi's again with my son and daughter-in-law. My son's wife as a very severe gluten alergy and my wife has a gluten intollerance. Willi's has a nice gluten free menu but you need to pay better attention to the dishes than the kitchen. My daughter-in-law's shrimp were properly prepared but then served over bread, not once but twice. The server and owner were quick to take the food and replace it and appologized profusely. Willi's specializes in small plates and all our dishes were good. They have a very good wine list with an emphasis on local wineries. We will come back again but will continue to be cautious of the servings."
