"My wife and I celebrated our anniversary on the 11th with a first time visit to Pairings Bistro.
The table, the confort, the service and the food - all top notch and to our tastes. It was Resaurant Week, so we took advantage of the 4-course special and thought that the pairings of food and wine were complementary and brought out the nuances in each other.
A fine and memorable dining experience, that we both look forward to repeating."

"Everything was great, from start to finish. The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. The food was fantastic, from appetizer to dessert and all three courses in between! My wife and I do not drink, so I cannot speak on the wine pairing that they do with each step of the experience. However, based on reviews from friends and the food we had, I would be surprised if it was anything short of excellent. Do yourself a favor and try this place out."

"We loved everything about Pairings: great food & wine, good service, and close to home. Our only "complaint" was that the courses and the wines came out too fast, but after we requested the server to wait a little longer between courses, he graciously accommodated us, and the rest of the meal and evening was great. Would highly recommend Pairings and this will be a regular place for us in the future."

"Low expectations given that it is part of a strip mall. Excellent food and selection, to satisfy most palettes. Wine selection is excellent and reasonably priced, scallops and lobster mac n cheese were delicious and the dessert was amazing! Its a neighborhood gem and much needed alternative to the string of franchise restaurants in Bel Air."

"On our anniversary my husband and I ate at Pairings Bistro and could not have had a more enjoyable meal and evening! It was restaurant week in Harford County, so we both chose a 4 course prix fixe meal. Each original course was deliciously prepared with fresh local ingredients. The Carrot Curry Soup was smooth with a fine blend of spices. My husband wanted to lick his plate after savoring the Asiago Chicken with Mashed Potatoes & Corn Leek Gravy! In addition the service was immpeccable with attention to fine detail. Each course was timed and brought to our table only after we had a chance to finish the one before. Pairings is a hidden gem, and now that we have found it we plan to return again & again!"

"We really enjoyed our time at Pairings. Our food and wine was delish, and we were just a little, bummed when we learned that evening that our reservation was for a Sunday Supper theme with a 'set' menu to choose between three to four different courses only. We should have reviewed the menu ahead of time to realize on Sunday evenings, they have a 'set' menu for Sunday Suppers. Still a good time! THank you!"

"Everything about Pairings is great except for the location. The restaurant sits inside a little strip mall and we would have completely missed it had we not gotten a recommendation from a friend. the restaurant would be perfect in down town Baltimore, but I'm very happy to have a great dinner spot closer to home."

"Hadn't been in several years and wanted something special for our anniversary. Didn't know they'd expanded and created an entirely new dining room. Very impressive. Stylish entrance and bar with an inviting wine room. The design of the ceiling in the main dining area makes you feel like you are inside a very large wine cask and is very warm and welcoming. Now the food/wines. We had 4 courses-soup, salad, entrée and dessert. All our selections were very nicely presented and excellent quality, freshness and delightfully tasteful, and I mean all 4 courses. Scallops and the farm steak (yum!). The wines were very nice. Service was exceptional; attentive but very relaxed. All in all a 5 star experience."

"This is much different that your usual restaurant. The emphasis is on matching wines with the food. The food is wonderfully prepared but portions are small. You can order ala cart from a list of 2 soups, 4 salads maybe a dozen or so entres and 4 deserts. And of course you can select a wine or wines as you choose. There is also a 4 course option that includes a glass of wine specifically selected for each course-so that is 4 glasses. There is also a 5 course option. Servings are small compared to other upscale restaurants but very rich and expertly prepared. Don't look for big baked potatos, mounds of pasta or a loaf of hot bread. Frankly, with 4 glasses of wine, you aren't likely to care to eat too much. 4 course option with wine is $57."

"We needed something a little more upscale than chain restaurants and this fits the bill. Unique menu with a wine selection for sophisticated palate. Attended the Mother's Day Brunch. Food and Mimosas were excellent. While the staff was very nice, the Wait service was a little slow. I'm not sure they were prepared for the rush. My guests enjoyed. I will go back."

"This was my 3rd visit to this amazing gem of a restaurant. Service was impeccable and food magnificent. 3 of us opted for the pre-fix menu (amazing value) without the wine pairing we opted for bottle of wine and their unique beers. Started with the fried oysters - perfectly battered and cooked - not too much breading, fried crisp and crunchy, not greassy - oyster remained plump and juicy. Followed by cream of crab soup (loved the extra sherry) beet salad (visually beautiful with layers of flavor and textures), grilled caesar salad with brioche croutons, the fish tacos (perfectly balanced with the sweet red cabbage and chipolte sauce) bbq shrimp/cheddar grits, tres leche cake, cheesecake and ice cream special. Can't wait to return...."

"We selected the 4 course with wine pairing. Each course was outstanding in flavor, freshness and presentation. The wine pairings were great, and generous. Cream of crab was excellent! They had outdoor seating, but portions of it were still under construction so we opted to eat inside. Tables are a little close, but not too close. Our server, Eric, was outstanding as well. "This was my first time eating at Pairings Bistro and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food and service were. The ambience is what you would expect at a nice wine bar and the service was top notch. The waitress was very helpful and pleasant, as were the other servers who came periodically to clear plates or refill drinks.
The food was amazing up until dessert. Although the desserts were good, they were clearly overcooked. I had the beignets which were very small and fried to the point of being dark brown and crunchy. My husband ordered the lava cake which had been cooked to the point where there was actually no "lava" left in the center.
I would certainly go back and also recommend this restaurant to friends and family!"

"As always, Pairings met our high expectations. This time our server was exceptionally friendly and generous in meeting our requests. The restaurant has recently expanded a bit and created a different entrance, so not having the door in the main restaurant room opening all the time is a definite plus, especially in cold weather. "Food was great. Portion sizes may be on the small end for some people; however, I was very satisfied. Unfortunately, it took WAY too long to get our entreas (we did not order appetizers). Took almost 40 minutes to get our food. If it was a busy night, I would understand, but the entire time I was there, the restaurant was nearly empty. There were literally only two other tables being served with us.
The amount they charge you for 3oz of wine is a joke as well."

"We started with crab and artichoke dip - which was very good.
I had scallops & pea risotto - very good, the scallops were cooked very well - however i question the need to bread them...but nonetheless they were very good along with the risotto. My Girlfriend Had the shrimp and grits - we thought the grits were very good - however the shrimp were completely overcooked...nearly inedible. We really didn't want to make a fuss...everything else was very good...the service was excellent.
I like the option of small plates or larger ones depending on your particular appetite...we had the small plates and thought they were perfectly sized.
The manager apologized for the shrimp and comped us some champagne...which we appreciated...we will retur"

"We went on a Friday ( April 5 th 2013) Food & wine where very good!! Our waitress had a "bad night" barely saw her & waited 15 min for my glass of wine & waited twice for each of my husbands beers!! Our food was delivered by someone else and we where done eating before we ever saw our waitress again!! She spent a lot of time chatting & laughing wirh orher customers at the bar. I'm sure they where pleased but we felt neglegted & not valued! She did apologize & compensated us, so I would still reccomend the Bistro. The fish tacos where good ( need more sauce) we loved the lobster Mac & cheese and the crab flatbread! We also really enjoyed the crab soup with Jumbo lump crab meat put right on your spoon & Sheri to pour in as you wish!"

"I loved the European feel to the restaurant and the waiter couldn't do enough for us. It was great that we were not rushed to finish our food. We had a four course meal and I especially enjoyed the "cream of crab soup". Presentation of meals is superb with attention to detail. You have to reserve a table early as it gets booked out pretty quick."

"This place is a gem. I've had a great meal every time I've been there. The expansion is nice - easier to get a reservation and the noise level is better. I had the Butternut Squash soup, fried oysters and the Lamb chops - each course was amazing and memorable. I love the wine list too - usual and great selections."

"The prixe fixe meals with the pairings was fun and interesting. I would not recommend the 5 course which serves 2 choices of the main course. The 4 course should be adequate. The ambience was pleasing and the food was delightful. If you like a tasting of wine, it was very convenient that you can purchase a bottle of wine there - as they have a small store in the front of the restaurant. The waitress was not very excited about explaining the different wines. She seemed to be bored telling us about the various wines that were being served. However; it was noted that the other waiters and staff seemed more enthusiastic.

"The food was okay, not as good as I expected. We had a couple apps that were okay, but I thought they would be better. The flatbread pizza was good. Dessert didn't have much on the way of taste. Our server was good and attentive, no issues there. Too bad Bel Air doesn't have a really good restaurant for a night out."

"My friend and I had never been to Pairings Bistro and it was a good midway point for us meeting. The decor of the restaurant is very warm, stylish, reminiscent of a decorated wine cellar. Service here is outstanding! Everyone with whom we came into contact was very friendly, helpful, and had a smile on their face. We started with a two-cheese plate of cabra la mancha and manchego, which was served with warm baguette and walnut spread. My friend had the BBQ shrimp and grits and I had the chicken Marsala with mushroom risotto. Of course we indulged in dessert - a chocolate brownie and warm fruit crumble - which was the perfect end to an excellent meal. Very tasty food with superb presentation, and great service. We would definitely return."

"I eat at Pairings several times a month and am never disappointed. This time I took a friend who warned that he's not an adventurous eater and he was worried he wouldn't like the food. I knew I could pick things he'd enjoy though. First we had the lobster mac & cheese, which he enjoyed so much and had a tough time sharing with me. Then he got the Cider Braised Pork Shank and practically licked the plate clean. I got the mussels which are a classic, and my date even tried a few mussels for the first time ever and loved them. For dessert we got the Hot Cocoa and Marshmallow Brownie with vanilla mint ice cream, which I have had a few times and love. It was the envy of diners sitting at the table next to us."
