Akbar, with genuine Indian character and charm, is aptly named after the Grand Mogul Emperor famous for splendor of his hospitality, fabulous feasts and elegance of living. As the first Indian Restaurant in Long Island, Akbar has lived up to its name, providing unparalleled services to its guests for years. Inspired by the diverse tastes and flavors from India, each chef at Akbar not only brings years of culinary expertise to each dish, but also has his own specialty, creating a unique balance in each menu item. An elegant setting with dramatic high ceilings, plush carpeting, Indian carvings, and the romantic glow of candle light add to the memorable and unique dining experience.
"The food and service are good, and the decor shows it was once fresh and vibrant. The place now looks run down, and in serious need of renovation. If it was not for the good food, I would rate this place as mediocre, at best--mostly because I like to be in surroundings that look well taken care of. This place has not had an update in years--cracked flower pots, worn carpeting, etc."

"The price can add up as everything is ala carte but the food is delicious and worth it. The ambiance is wonderful...the waitstaff makes you feel like a Raj!"

"The food is absolutely amazing. It seems that if you have the slightest inclination towards this type of food there will be something on the menu to more that satisfy you. The service was not always on top of their game; however this can be both a good and bad thing. If you are looking to get in and out this isn't ideal. I do not like when the staff hovers though so this is perfect. It also isn't bad enough that you are staring at an empty glass for a while. Give it a shot."

"This restaurant was referred by a coworker. I was excited because I wanted a different cuisine and was taking a couple out on their anniversary. The workers were pleasant and the service was good. I appreciated being told they had a buffet which had a variety of food and the price was good. The food was decent and not spicy. If i go again, I will order from the menu, although it"s pricey. I would recommend this restaurant."
