Local is, in every way, a product of its place, local in every sense–local farmers and local tastes, local vendors and local artisans, local community and local people. Our often-changing menu presents sophisticated, fresh, and direct cooking of the best of the markets and ranches.
Please see our website for the current menu.
Local serves dinners Wednesday - Saturday evenings. Each dish is served appetizer or main size, so that you can taste and share or have a traditional coursed meal. Our wines, curated by Terrior, are all naturally made and primarily Californian. Each wine is available by the glass or bottle.
"This restaurant is all local and all natural in addition to being exceptionally creative . The four of us loved every item we ordered. The wine selection was superb, including the orange wine. Terrific San Francisco find. And reasonably priced."

"The first time we went to Local Mission Eatery we had a wonderful time and were spoiled by Jonathan, who was the expert on wines! Our recent experience was so disappointing. The hostess was snobby and didn't make the slightest attempt to accommodate us. Even though we had reservations, we were seated at the bar. The bar was crowded and not comfortable. We never knew who our waiter/waitress was the whole time we were there...we were served by different people. And the service was terrible. Not once did anyone ask how the food was or if we wanted more wine, even though our glasses were empty! The food was average, not outstanding by any means. My salmon dish was good, but my boyfriend's pork dish was very dry. Will definitely NOT go back!"

"I’m not sure which was colder – the rosemary focaccia or the waiter who refused to warm it up for me. First he said, “The bread will heat up with your soup” and then: “It’ll dry out if I toast it again.” It also seemed an inconvenient truth to him that he had to get us things like menus and service. Insouciance, a special side dish!
But unlike the waiter (and the dismally dry pork shoulder), the food was largely delightful. Like a story with a favorable twist at the end, most of the dishes began by meeting expectations and then pulling a delectable culinary reversal, like the standard tagliatelle with the unexpected uni."

"Mission Local Eatery is one of our very favorite restaurants. You can hardly go wrong in ordering as everything on the menu is terrific. Very fresh local ingredients put together in the most inventive and delicious ways. Great wait staff and a nice, casual environment."

"I've eaten at Local Mission Eatery twice. The first was with an out-of-town foodie guest for a meal during one of LME's wine/menu pairings. We both thought the meal was one of the best we've ever had. I had been searching for a time to come with my wife, and managed a deferred mother's day celebration mid-week. We had the focaccia as an appetizer, bean soup with kale and artichoke, grilled artichoke and fennel, tagliatelle, ricotta gnocchi with chicken confit and an surprisingly complex chocolate brioche for dessert. All the dishes were excellent. We loved that one can have half portions of the main courses, allowing us to try more dishes. Service was attentive without being stuffy. Currently this is my favorite restaurant in SF."

"We had read about Local Mission in Bon Appetite and Saveur food magazine and had put it on our list of places we HAD to try. And EVERYTHING written about it from the amazing twist on Chinese Food to the cool energy and vibe of the room was TRUE. We highly recommend this place and RESERVATIONS are a MUST."

"First time there - wonderful, friendly and patient service. The menu is not big, but there were plenty of choices for us, one of whom was a vegetarian. Vegetable dishes were great. I'll be back!"

"Great place and food cooked perfectly but ingriegients weren't as fresh as I would of liked... I was one of the first seats on a Saturday so I got some eft overs from the night before. The fish, Cod, smelled and tasted fishy and I believe was frozen. Took only one bite. The other pieces isaw them take out of the fridge looked a bit more fresh. The only other thing I thought was not on par was the dessert. It was two hunks of chocolate bar, couple day old chocolate pudding and lemon curd that tasted stale. Only took one bite."

"Great choice for almost anyone. Suited to the local hipoisie, but casual enough and with an accessible, seasonal, shareable menu. Some dishes are truly special, others are decent. Nothing is bad. Environment & service friendly and inviting. Only disappoinment was with wine; understood the concept is "local" but wished for at least one old world choice."

"The three-course prix-fixe was over priced for the quality of the food. The waitress was too push trying to impose choices (eg, an expensive combination of wines to pair the food) on us. Overall, very disappointed with this place."

"If you're like me and you're into the farm/stream/brewery-to-table movement, you'll find Local a very special place. The menu changes constantly and everything is ridiculously fresh and tasty. There are essentially two sections of the menu: appetizers and mains. The mains come in two sizes - appetizer size and entree size - so you can have a family-tapas-style dinner if you want, with small sharing courses coming throughout the evening as they come off the stove. Standout for me was the Black Cod entree -- the supplest fish I have ever tasted--no exaggeration."

"Service was HORRENDOUS! Waitress had no product knowledge and seemed out to lunch (or dinner in this case). Several key dishes stood out like the tagliatelle ... otherwise... everything was just mediocre in flavor and presentation.
Sorry."

"wow, we had always loved this place, but tried the newer one recently (Local's Corner) then came back here and ..what has happened? food was mediocre, hipster servers were less than interested in us. just disappointing. we'll give it another try in a few weeks, maybe hit an off night."

"I just love this restaurant. We've been eating here for over 2 years and frankly don't come often enough. The food is always good and frequently outstanding. Our last meal over this past weekend was one of the best I have had in my life. We don't go out much anymore (kids!) but we've eaten out a lot in SF and around the world and Local Mission eatery delivers some really phenomenal dishes. Our last meal consisted of: fried brussel sprouts with pomegranate and cheese (can't remember kind): Brussels sprouts were perfect! Wild rice with squid ink and some veggies: Yummy lemony, rich umami like flavor Bean stew: savory, hearty and delicious lamb wrapped in cabbage: spices and texture were perfect It won't let me write anymore but I could"

"I can't recommend this place enough. The food was terrific and the small plate options meant we got to try a wide variety of their plates. There wasn't anything we didn't like....the cheese w/ poached kumquats, sunchokes, pasta....I could go on and on. Their wine bottle prices are really fair and our server gave us a great recommendation."

"For our 1st dinner in Local Mission Eatery the 3 of us decided to share a few starters and main dishes. We are all very impressed with the beautiful combination of flavors. Somehow every time we picked up a piece of food from any of the plates, we were surprised to find that beyond the expected taste, the magicians behind the kitchen counter had managed to infuse another taste into it. Whether it was the almonds impregnated with the flavour of orange, the delicately smoked ricotta or the citrusy trout, every mouthfull was a pleasant discovery, all beautifully executed. We were very pleased also with our bottle of Zinfandel. The only flaw I can think of was the lack of good timing between each dish as it was pretty slow."

"Great food, local, seasonal and great service. I would recommend this place to anyone that cares about what they eat rather than how much is being served. And on top of that prices are reasonable."

"Very fresh and interesting dishes. Small menu but something for everyone. I will definitely go again. Also very affordable by SF standards. All of the servers were very friendly and attentive despite a fairly busy evening including a large group."
