Customshop is a modern trattoria with a neighborhood feel located in the heart of Charlotte, NC. "This was my first experience at the Custom Shop and it was delightful. While our server sometimes was off in his own little world I think that was just a fluke. The bar is pretty cool and had great service there. There are a few tables outside to view the city and Elizabeth area but we ate inside. Big booths, cozy, quiet, and nice ambiance. The food was spectacular. We tried several appetizers, meat and cheeses and all were delicious. Take their recommendations for that. I had the fresh made pasta bolognese and it was outstanding. Delicious. I tried the tuna and that was equally good. I will go back."

"My husband, four teenage kids and I went to custom shop for my birthday and could not have had a more perfect meal. Everyone throughly enjoyed their meals and the four small plates we ordered for appetizers were fabulous. The Tuna meatballs were a big hit. The service was excellent as well. Loved the diversity of the menu....a little bit of something for everyone."

"A little disappointed in the food. We've enjoyed meals at the Custom Shop before but this time things were kinda mediocre. My Mahi Mahi was pretty bland. Not sure if it was because I requested it to be gluten free. The waiter said they lightly flour it so they leff that off due to my GF request. My wife's tuna was much better."

"Excellent service and ambience. Started with the mussels which were a bit disappointing but good none the less. Too much basil, added some bitterness that was over powering. I had the smoked duck for main course which was excellent. My date has the duck confit which was also very very good. Other menu items looked very good. Love the farm to table concenpt and have visited many similar establishments, would rank this one high but not one of the best. I would eat here again but would try a few of the exoctic items from their small plates menu. I did see Jamon Iberico on the menu which I have only seen one other place in Charlotte."

"My wife and I were in Charlotte for the weekend and very pleased we didn't miss out on an experience at Customshop. An unassuming and understated interior sets the tone for and allows a menu that relies on simple, locally sourced products to really shine.
The smoked crispy duck breast dish was perfectly cooked, and the plate included some welcome twists to a traditional French dish (particularly the use of kumquats). The sea scallops were some of the largest my wife and I had ever seen, and were perfectly cooked as well.
We didn't take advantage of dessert but the ones we saw looked delicious.
Despite many well-reviewed restaurants in the area, we would return to Customshop without hesitation our next time in Charlotte."

All too often new servers try far to hard to compensate for a lack of wine and food familiarity. I think it speaks volumes of Customshop that our server was straighforward and frank regarding his unfamiliarity with the full wine menu. Aside from that, the food and wine was fantastic as usual. "I have been here once before and it was my favorite restaurant in Charlotte (I visit there often in preparation for a move there in the summer). This time, the time between courses was insane (over an hour.) When we first arrived there were many empty tables so I am not sure what went wrong. The fish that was ordered was overcooked (we told the waitress but she didn't offer any remedy.) The scallops that were ordered were slightly undercooked. We ordered dessert which was very good. Unfortunately, you would think that with the amount of time we patiently and politely waited they would have offered a free drink or perhaps dessert but it did dnot happen....this has been moved off the top spot in Charlotte at this point!"

"The best thing I had for dinner here was the bread pudding. One of my fellow diners said that was the best bread pudding he has ever had. I had the octopus appetizer, which i thought had some really strong flavors seasoning it, but was cooked to perfection. I ordered the monkfish special, which was unfortunately a bit rubbery. The dessert saved my experience but the service did not. Our waiter was a bit neglectful, not coming by too often to refill our waters, not coming by too often to take our order for the next course. He kindly put in the order for one diners souffle, served it to her, and did not come to ask us for the dessert order of the remaining guests. We had to flag him down. I would dine again and hope for better service"

"My second time there, and again, food was just OK. First time I've had a beet in salad that was crunchy. Waitress was after drink orders, immediately after putting the wine list in our hands. Can't figure out why this place has so many positive reviews since that has not been our experience, twice."

"Excellent food and the service is simply great. The entrees are not a balanced meal, which I didn't realize at first. You should an appetizer or order sides with your entree if you have a hearty appetite. If I owned/operated a restaurant, I would want it to be like Customshop. I'll definitely be going back."

"We had high hopes for Customshop. Things started off on a positive note with the appetizers. We had the roasted beets with burrata and the grilled octopus. I felt both were outstanding. The octopus was nice and tender but it also had a nice char. The aoili sauce was delicious and the potatoes were perfectly cooked. The pistachios and roasted tomatoes were a nice compliment to the beets and mild cheese.
Sadly, the entrees missed the mark. My husband ordered the grilled scallop special and I had the Carolina flounder and a side of the duck fat potatoes. The scallops lacked seasoning and were slightly gritty. My flounder was well cooked but also bland and the bed of favas were terribly undercooked to the point of being crunchy."

"We absolutely loved the food...one of best meals we have had in Charlotte. The duck confit appetizer was fabulous. Both entries were great. We had the WTF pork chop and the crispy duck breast. The wait staff was very friendly but missed on basic 101 serving .... Bring the appetizers and meals for all at the table at the same time. Our appetizers came 10 minutes apart and entries 5. It was a busy night there which may have contributed but still no excuse for something so basic. The food was so good though that we will definitely go back hoping the service just a misstep that one night."

"We love Customshop!!!! We were taken there by friends 2 weeks ago and could not wait to get back!!! We took two new friends there this past Saturday night, and they loved it also!
The food is delicious. The menu is very intriguing, and the service is very attentive and professional!
We did not feel like we were in Charlotte which for us is saying a lot since we moved here from San Francisco!
We look forward to many delicious and happy times at Customshop!!!"

"We love it. The duck was as tender & tasty as a filet; wife's tuna was perfect. Only problem is deciding amongst great offerings. We'll have to go back soon! We learned that a previous favorite, crispy fried flounder, is usually the special on Fri/Sat, so we'll time our return for that."

"Went for our anniversary dinner and loved everything about it. Started with a cheese and charcuterie platter that was very tasty. Then I went with the ricotta gnocchi and my husband got the crispy duck special. Both were very delicious. The duck took a while to cook so they gave us a complimentary dessert. We went with the bread pudding which was amazing!"

"Brunch was very good, but they took my favorite menu items off of the menu (blueberry mascarpone cheese french toast and fritta). The peanut butter/banana bread french toast was good, but not as good as the brioche bread french toast and the portion was smaller. The service was excellent and the scones brought to the table after you order is a nice touch!!"

"I was disappointed. The food was fairly salty and not very imaginative. The service was rushed. We had a 7 pm reservation and our waitress cleared my husband's plate while I was still eating and then brought the check basically alongside the frost covered scoop of ice cream that I ordered for desert. There were people standing up front when we exited so I figured we were rushed so that others could be seated. Another note - when I booked the reservation I mentioned in the comments that it was a special occasion and I requested a special table. No mention of the special occasion was made by the staff and our table was by the bar in the middle of the room. Wish they had at least read the special request. Even if unable to oblige."
