"We have been living (and eating) in Chicago for almost 10 years and we had yet to dine at the Ritz until recently. We were pleasantly surprised by our new find in deca and plan on going back. We really enjoyed the ambience, sitting off to the side of the atrium. It was quiet enough to have an intimate conversation but the background noise of the running fountain and the passers-by created a great atmosphere. The food was very good overall, but unfortunately was overshadowed by the halibut that came out a little gummy. But we sent it back to be cooked a touch more and there was no problem. And our server seemed very rushed even though there were empty tables around. Perhaps they were understaffed."

"We keep trying, but the service in this restaurant is so s l o w. I had to ask twice for coffee @ brunch, and a refill never came. This is the second time we have tried Deca but ever since the change over the service is horrendous. We live in the neighborhood and would love to have an alternate restaurant but I just can't go back. What happened to the usually outstanding service in the past years??"

"This review is for Easter Brunch. The food was excellent with lots of choices however the service we received (at a very expensive per person cost) was sub-par. Definitely not aligned with what you'd expect from a luxury hotel / restaurant. We've had better service at Four Seasons hotels."

"Very disappointing experience for a Ritz Carlton- Four Seasons!!! The check-in for our one o'clock Easter reservation appeared to be staffed by 1 person. The area in front of the fountain, which was home to the Seafood stations, was packed with dozens of families waiting to be seated making it difficult for seated guests to access the stations. We were seated on the west side of the fountain. Perhaps there were 4 other tables with guests seated. We sat for a good ten minutes before our waiter came to our table. Perhaps he was not a regular on the staff which would explain his awkward explanation of the buffet stations.The staff behind the food stations were delightful and helpful. Visually the food was spectacular as was the quality."

"Everything about our experience here was great. Our waiter was a real gem, really enjoyed his personality and the service that was provided. "You'd think for $150, I could get a decent cup of coffee with my brunch. I got one, had to wait several minutes for cream, which was curdled. After sitting there for nearly an hour and no refill, I went to the bar for another cup, which was ice cold. Disappointing service to say the least. The food, however, was absolutely delicious, and the staff preparing omelettes/breakfast and carving meat were great."

"Our server, Tomas, was wonderful. We were dining using a voucher purchased from TravelZoo which was for a $142. dinner for 2. We were expecting an enclosed restaurant, but found that the space is very open in the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Great for people watching, but not very condusive to hearing your dining partner... Ordered the appetizer risotto, and that was very bland and slightly undercooked. My entree was the veal chop which I ordered medium rare, but it arrived more of a medium well. All in all, everything was fair. I guess I just expected more from a restaurant inside the Ritz-Carlton."

"My friend and I arrived for tea. I didn't realize that she was gluten free and a lot of the tea menu has flour in it. The staff very graciously accommodated her request, coming up with a vegetable sandwich on gluten free bread, a gluten free muffin and a bowl of fruit. The service was prompt, and there was no recriminations for not warning them ahead of time about the dietary issues. All staff were very hospitable. We had an excellent afternoon. Beth"

"Our waiter David was very good and steered us to the best choices. We really enjoyed the seafood tower appetizer and would return for that. The entrees were mixed; the skate, which is usually one of my favorite fishes was mushy and bland- but we were warned. The salmon was good. "Food, service, and ambiance were all great when a friend and I met for lunch. Each of us had a salad and would both recommend our selections -- Nicoise and Lyonnaise. This is the lobby restaurant on the 12th floor of a hotel so it's an open space, not an intimate dining room. But it's comfortable, not rushed, and a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon. It's pricey, though maybe not more so than other hotel dining rooms."

"My wife and i had dinner there last night.
The French onion soup is the best I ever had in the United States. It compares to some of the great ones in Montreal and Quebec City.
Our main courses were trout and wild salmon and they were delicious.
Everything was wonderful. But, for having reasonable food prices there beverage prices are just too high. A small bottle of diet coke was $5 and a lemonade $6.
If a restaurant is trying to lure people in with reasonable prices, screwing us over on soft drinks just turns us off. I was planning to make deca a regular restaurant for lunch or dinner, but now with $5 for a lemonade, count me out."

"First, the restaurant was very accomodating as traffic delayed us 1 hour from our reservation. Once there, dinner was lovely - I had the wild salmon with artichokes - delicious. My friend had the roasted chicken which she said was excellent. Our server David was very knowledgeable about the menu offerings."

"A very busy night at Deca lead to slower service (although superbly executed by an outstanding, experienced server whose fine service we have enjoyed in the past) than usual, but the dinner was very good.
I was, however, disappointed that on a cold, snowy night, the winter classic Saturday special, boeuf bourgignon, had been removed from the menu, although it still was showing up on a menu on-line.
Nice evening but not as wonderful as previous visits.

"This is a very nice restaurant. There is valet parking for $15. Then you go to the 12th floor. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. The food was good and I would definitely go back. It was very elegant and comfortable. I really enjoyed myself. I would definitely recommend this for a date night or special occasion dinner."

"I'm a member of the Carlton club, which is the Ritz-Carlton's club within the hotel, which confers certain dining privileges, so I love coming to the Deca, the hotel's quite romantic, very foodie-friendly restaurant. It's set in one of the best hotel lobbies in Chicago (on the 12th floor), and has recently been redone. A bit modern, but still a wonderful old fountain in the middle of things. Always a pleasure to eat there."

"Disappointing/poorly-trained service...though very friendly. Timing, accuracy, wine orders, attentiveness -- even the simple act of having the table prepared with place settings, etc. -- fell short of bare minimum expectations. The only plausible explanation is that The Four Seasons across the street kidnapped the real Ritz-Carlton staff. Thankfully, the kidnappers left the kitchen staff behind, because the food was quite good. No idea how Deca received a Bib Gourmand nod."

"Atmosphere is somewhat morgue-like, lacking all charm. They claim they serve "fresh" ingredients, but actually the opposite is the case. Beware the seafood plateau! "The lobster bisk lacked texture and intensity. The flavor is good but leaves you wanting. The champagne risotto was ok. The beignets were stale like they had been cooked off that morning or the day before and left to dry out. With regards to the menu my wife chose, the pear salad may have been the ugliest plate of food I have seen, the flavors were ok. The roasted chicken was moist but again lacked flavor and just wasn't remarkable. The creme brûlée was acceptable, traditional and elegantly presented but nothing special. The service was very good and the bottle of wine the serve selected for us complemented the meal very well. We would have enjoyed the atmosphere more had we not been sat, just my wife and I, next to a 12 top with small kids"

"deca is in the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton hotel, the ambiance is very grand. As always, the Ritz' service was exceptional. We had the Restaurant Week prix-fixe menu, very good value. Started with the warm pear salad - excellent! "Peared" with the Pear Necessities martini, definitely must repeat. I've been disenchanted with burgers lately, but the Ritz' wagyu burger was very tender and flavorful, huge portion with tasty shoestring french fries. Finished with the Lemon Tart and Cafe au Lait. We were not rushed, stayed for quite a while chatting, a lovely afternoon. Will go again for afternoon tea or drinks at the bar. Perhaps even a spa day, followed by dinner. One of the nice things about a hotel restaurant - many choices to ponder!"

"What do you say when you want just enough people to find it so it stays the way it is good food, quiet, and available. This is the third time I have been there.
