Postrio knows just what you're looking for. Comforting food. Relaxing drink. Intimate surroundings. All coming together in gathering spot worthy of one of the world's great cities.
And you'll find us right where you need us: just off Union Square in the thick of San Francisco.
"I'd heard that I should eat at Postrio, as it's "a Wolfgang Puck restaurant," this said with raised eyebrows that implied it would be great food. Yay, I love a special night out!
The host/waiter initially mistook our party of 2 for a party of 5, asking "Did you lose 3 people? It's fine, it's fine," then wandered around the half empty restaurant "looking for a table." (Huh?) He came back, I said my name again, and he found it this time on his screen. We were seated at a tiny table in a waiter-traffic zone. Sad, there were lots of pretty tables available.
My steak was chewy and charred. My daughter's chicken was just ok, though tender. The lack of "special" quality was disappointing. Desserts were good. Overall, "ok.""

"This was an interesting experience. I've been to Postrio before and it has always been wonderful. I made a reservation on Open Table to take guests for brunch. Turns out, they no longer serve brunch and didn't tell anyone. It was a bit embarrassing for me and my guests. To the restaurant's credit, they did let us in and served us breakfast, which was very good. The service was a bit off, likely due to the fact that they weren't expecting to have guests. So, I would still recommend Postrio, but would recommend calling to confirm any reservations before showing up."

"An excellent location; quiet, understated, classy interiors. The food is good enough; the freedom to have an audible conversation with friends on a Friday night: priceless!"

"Nice atmosphere. Food was disappointing. Staff very nice and trying hard but waiter was way overloaded with the number of customers. Halibut tasted like it had come out of freezer and had lost its moistness - boring. Portions were small. Would not go back except to try their wood fired oven Pizza. Great location!"

"20+ years ago, this was one of the best restaurants downtown. Not any more. We made a 6:15 reservation making it clear that we had a show at 8:00. Greeted at the door by someone who made it clear he was flustered and about to get slammed by a large group, he ran us to our table, where we waited 10 minutes for our waiter to arrive. The first glass of wine we ordered took 15 minutes after ordering it; the second glass took almost 20 minutes. Our waiter was out of control and screwing up almost everyone's service in our section. We must have heard him say "I am sorry about that" at least 10 times at each table for slow service or bringing the wrong thing or forgetting what was ordered. Almost missed the show waiting 15 minutes for the bill."

"This restaurant is no longer the caliber destination I remember it to be. Food is nothing special and our dishes had major flaws. My partner had the halibut, it was dry and overcooked. I had the Scallop and Pork Belly, lacked salt and came out warm/not hot. Service was terrible for a fine dining restaurant. After I had the appetizer, I placed my used knife on the plate. The server took my knife and placed it back on the table. I pushed it aside and it stayed there till after the dessert was brought out. I didn't even use it for my entree course and a new one was NOT brought to me either. During the entire evening, the manager was sitting at a table with a friend and ignoring the other guests. A terrible experience overall."

"We had not been to Postrio since the main restaurant, which we really liked, closed. Only the top part of the establishment is operative even now. The food was very good...excellent ribeye steak and very tasty and perfectly cooked halibut... and the ambiance fine. Service was attentive and generally good though there were errors in our bill that had to be corrected twice. Drinks were strange and not very good. Martinis ordered "up" had quite a bit of slivered ice in them and the Irish coffee left a great deal to be desired! However, the location is great if you are going to an ACT performance after dinner as we were."

"I've always heard how great Postrio was, so my wife and I went to dinner there last Saturday night. I was unaware that Wolfgang Puck had ceased being the owner back in '08. We were still very pleased with our dinner and the service as well. The one recommendation I would make is to identify what Neo Spaghetti is. From the description, I thought it was spaghetti with crabmeat in it. No where did it mention that it was squidink spaghetti. I would not have ordered it if I had known; luckily it was just an appetizer. Besides that, dinner was good."

"This certainly is not the Postrio in its heyday, but it is solid place for dinner before the theater. Nice, quiet ambiance, away from the maddening crowd."

"Not the old postrio. Food was good, but not great, lacked flavor. Accompany items were odd. Service was spotty, he got to many tables for one person, and that is when the service went down."

"Let's bring back the '90s but without the excitement of high times. This is a sad reminder that the good old days are over. The remnants of a once fabulous ambience are sad to witness. The ghosts have even left the premises. Oh, well. Staff is nice and well meaning."

"This is a good place to dine before the theater in an area that has few good options. I wish that the food had been more carefully prepared (e.g., oily top on the pizza, indifferent salad, over-cooked salmon) and that the seating was more comfortable (i.e., our booth for two felt like we were squeezed in)."

"While the luncheon menu was limited, the salads and dessert were large, delicious, beautifully visually, made with quality ingredients and well priced. I think they specialize in pizzas at lunch..so next time, I'll try a pizza."

"This is a different Postrio than the one I went to a few times some years ago. Menu is more casual and fairly limited. We were there on a Monday night so perhaps that had a bearing on the experience, but the entire downstairs was not in use (didn't look like it had been used in some time.) We were crammed in to a semi-dark mid-level area with about 7-8 tables. The food was good, but not spectacular. The service was the best thing about the place. Hopefully we were there during a transition period. I only get back to SF about every 3 months or so, and I'm not sure I would waste a precious restaurant experience on this again."

"This is not the restaurant that was downstairs 10 years or more ago. This is the bar & restaurant on the street level, a shadow of what was.
I had the mushroom pizza which had a pesto sauce that ruined the delicate flavor of the mushrooms. I also found the sweet onions a minus. If the pizza had only the fontina cheese & mushrooms it would have been very satisfying. This might be a good place to have dinner before the theater, but with modest expectations."

"Overall, this was a disappointing experience. Our server forgot to put our appetizer order in and then messed up my dinner. There are so many good food options in SF, I would not recommend this place at all."

"We haven't been there for many years and thought it would be fun to sit in the bar area. We had a lovely corner booth that was perfect for the 4 of us The menu is small but perfect with just enough selection. Service and food was good!We would all go back!!!"

"We love this restaurant for lunch or dinner. The menu is small but everything we've tried is delicious, the service is excellent, and the wines are plentiful and wonderful. We've come back each time we come to San Francisco for years.

"We were there on a Thursday and - I had the ribs and my boyfriend had the chicken. Both were divine; perfectly seasoned, just delicious. The service was great too. We sat in the bar area even though we had booked a table in the restaurant, so I can't speak to the ambiance in that area. The bar was a nice casual place to site with lovely 2 and 4 person booths. It was a little breezy though."

"What a surprise for our famous Postrio! The small-pricey menu and the minimum service was not appreciated. The chicken sandwich was filled with nuts and grapes --perhaps chicken sprinkled on it. Customer asked for no sauce on the ribs --and it was served with a heavy, spicy sauce. This was a crowded restaurant when Wolfgang Puck owned it. Now it has a new owner, new name, and serving few customers."

"Good location but really just an average dining experience. Don't get me wrong - I would dine there again but there was nothing that really wowed me. We started out with the ceasar salad which was just your basic salad...and then had the wood fired / mushroom pizza. It was tasty but a little greasy."

"Horrible service. Substitutions in menu item (changing the whole dish) served without being asked or advised first and without any offer of change. Bread delivered after we inquired --!two thirds of the way through our second course -- what the empty bread plate and knife were for. Great food and menu are surpassed by very sloppy service. Postrio used to have good service. Gone!"

"Ate at the bar by myself and had a great time. The food was really good, although the kitchen was a little off on timing. The bar manager more than made up for it and it was a fun evening. Highly recommend the scallops and beets appetizer and the poached pear dessert."
