"The place is charming, and there is a lot of potential. However, the service was really slow and the food wasn't warm when it finally got to us. The waitress didn't really seem too concerned about our dining experience and never apologized for the delays. I ordered a Quessadilla and it was more of a taco preparation than anything else, and the filling was sparse. To their credit, my drink was good. As I said, the place has potential but for what we paid, I expected much better."

"We arrived at Cafe Frida having made a reservation on Open Table for four. Two of us were present; the other two were delayed because of 'suspicious activity' at the 96th subway station. We were told we could not be seated until all party arrived.
I insisted that we had made a reservation, our table was guaranteed and we wanted to sit and have a drink. This policy is clearly ridiculous. We were reluctantly taken to our table. We ordered an appetizer that never arrived. After half an hour with no service we were told the Health Dept was there for an inspection. After more than an hour waiting with no update we left. We will NOT return."

"Delicious and fresh food. There's a wide range of fresh salsa's to choose from and the quacamole is really good. We had tacos and tamales for dinner, generous portions, and bright flavors. Would definitely return. The staff are great and manage the mix of folks there for drinks and families with kids quite well!"

"We went to Cafe Frida for Brunch on Sunday. There was only one server for a rather large area and it took a long time to be served. The food was good but rather unspectacular. The refried beans didn't taste good and the sides were generally sparse."

"Chips and Guacaomole were good (although we ordered it "medium" and had two orders, the first was most definitely not spicy and the second much more so). The menu has a nice variety of items and food was fun and tasty. Service was reasonably attentive and cheerful. Overall a great place to go with some friends for a fun and relaxing night. It was still crowded at 10:30 on a Saturday night, but we didn't need to shout to be heard at our table. While I wouldn't call it a "destination restaurant", when I'm in that neighborhood (we were there for an event at Symphony Space), I will be happy to go back."

"I SO wanted to love this place. I'm from CA and it looked so promising. After dining there go for drinks ONLY and the great service. The host, waiters and busboys were wonderful. The food was NOT. Bland, cold and basically the only mexican food restaurant where I had to ask for salt!!! I really hope it improves because the ambiance and wait staff were great."
