"Everything on the menu will absolutely WOW you. The Cesar salad sounds like such a simple item but not at Mastros, it's full of flavor and a definite side as well as the mashed potatoes, yummm. The butter cake is out of this world and the Lemon Drop martinis with dry ice, OMG, scrumptiously good!"

"Great food but way too loud! I felt like I had to scream to talk to the other people at the table. They asked us specifically if we wanted to be in the area with live music and we said no so we could visit, but, they were piping in the live music through the speakers upstairs and it was just ridiculously loud. Other than that the food and service was great."

"Ordered lobster bisque, 1 medium bone in rib eye + 1 medium rare bone in rib eye, gnocchi, steamed broccoli, lobster mash. Bread they gave us was really good, but they take it away when the soup comes. Lobster bisque was good, creamy + had large chunks of lobster in it. Gnocchi with crab meat, very good, could taste the truffle + had chunks of crab in it. Mash potatoes with lobster, huge lobster chunks, but the potatoes were swimming in butter, it's a bit much. This was okay. Steamed broccoli, lacked flavor. There wasn't even any salt on it. Rib-eye...was good, not the best. Both our steaks were chewy, husband's steak was rare, mine slightly over. We both had a tough time cutting. Lots of tendons. Chocolate cake = heaven! Service excellent!"

"My husband had the bone in filet and I had the petite filet. We both loved our steaks. The sides are large and we ordered too much food. It was our anniversary and they gave us a plate with a huge piece of chocolate cake with fresh whipped cream on the side. It was a memorable meal and we would recommend Mastro's."

"I had an amazing experience at Mastro's, even my usually picky parents enjoyed their dinner. The table shared the Porter House steak for two, the Lime Sushi Roll and several sides. The sushi was some of the freshest I have eaten in the city and the steak was done to perfection. Someone had mentioned that it was my graduation dinner and the waiter was kind enough to bring us a piece of their chocolate layer cake., on the house We had wine and beer which was decently priced for a nice restaurant. My only complaint would be that the lounge was very crowded and loud making it hard to order a drink before we were seated. Overall I would definitely go back."

"It's good to try the Resto but it's quite pricey for what it is. The server was nice but we found her not very sincere, too scripted for a waitress. We felt a bit rushed for dinner. It had a nice ambience for a special occasion dinner. It would be nice if people are required to dress nicely, at least jacket should be required. It keeps the upscale feel of the Resto not having to see clients in tshirts."

"This was my fifth outing to Mastro's. A surprise birthday dinner for my partner, our party thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our server, Bill, was knowledgeable about the menu items and provided some excellent recommendations that we enjoyed very much. The level of service and the quality of the food cannot be paralleled in Chicago."

"The waiter was very attentive and had the perfect level of energy and let us also enjoy our night out. The cocktails were tasty and unique, bone marrow appetizer was delightful. We split a chopped salad which was good, but the dressing was very neutral in flavor (lacked a kick). For entree my husband ordered bone-in filet med-raw. It was SO good that I begged no fewer than 3 bites from him. I ordered Big Hawaiian sashimi grade tuna and it was fresh and flavorful. Both dinner portions were generous. Our sides were lobster mashed potatoes (recommended) and brussel sprouts. Both didn't disappoint. My only regret is that we weren't returning directly home and I couldn't have leftovers!"

"Our entire group commented that the food was fantastic - They were the best steaks we've ever had. Great selection of interesting sides. Very good service. We liked the restuarant decor, but it was too dark. We don't mind dim lighting, but this was much too dark. We liked the piano bar music that we could hear in the restaurant. I would give Mastro's an overall rating of 95/100.
We'll definitely be back."

"This place was so dark in the restaurant and the bar it was annoying. The little light that they had was like a night light. You could not see anything. My first thought was what are the trying to hide? The food is very overpriced for the quality. Our clear lobster roll had very little lobster and the sauce was very spicy. It was too spicy for our taste. My pan seared Alaskan halibut was dry and had no taste. The side order of Brussels Sprouts were burnt. The bone in rib eye we ordered was average at best. There are many other places in the city of Chicago that are better for steak. The only this that was great here was the dessert - we ordered the Mastro Signature Warm Butter Cake. It was excellent. But it's not enough for us to go back."

"This is my husband and my fourth time dining at Mastro's and we have had nothing but great experiences. The food is always outstanding - we especially like that the steaks come out on a hot plate and the sides come out on the small pan they were cooked in. It keeps everything nice and hot. The cocktails are delicious and their signature butter cake is one of the best desserts we've ever had. The service is outstanding, our wait staff has always been very knowledgeable of the menu. We can't wait to get back there!"

"We held a business dinner at Mastro's with plans to visit a neighborhood bar afterward. The food, the service, the people were so outstandingly good, we stayed at the restaruant bar after dinner to enjoy the live music. Everyone who attended dinner (individuals from Japan, Europe and of course around the US) enjoyed the food and the ambiance."

"The food and the service were great! I really want to stress those as good points. The problem is that we had to wait until between songs to talk to each other, and it was a small table. There are enough tables in that one small room that the noise level is very high to start with, then they blast songs with only a few seconds between the end of one and the start of the next. I don't see why anyone would book a dinner there, either romantic or business, because you could not get a business point across well shouting, and you can't be romantic if not talking. We had to lean over and speak into each other's ears to be heard most of the time."

"We were in Chicago for a long weekend and Mastro's was a recommendation from some friends. Our friends have been to Mastro's in other locations and said they would be a fabulous choice. They were right! The lobster bisque had huge chunks of lobster. The steaks were prepared perfectly. The cocktails were not only delicious but their presentation was fantastic. Throughout the evening, the service was outstanding. We will definitely make sure to visit a Mastro's any time we are near one. This Chicago experience was fantastic!"

"I'm the same person that referred to Mastro's as the standard for Chicago steakhouses. Their offering on this visit was subpar not only for them but for any "better" establishment. I ordered a medium rare porterhouse, which is my usual selection, but the NY strip portion was so tough I could barely cut it. It would have been obvious to the staff that there was an issue if they were attentive. I say that because when I couldn't finish my own steak I began to eat my wife's steak.
So, everyone has 1subpar day, I'll be back and we will see if they retain / reclaim their title."

"High end steakhouse, with a wide variety of seafood options as well, including some sushi. We had tuna, crab and shrimp to start, then steaks. All were very good. Deserts were very good as well. Only dissapointment were the salads. They were loaded but the dressings were very unimpressive. Very vibrant bar scene with a piano player and singer. Some say it is too loud, but we enjoyed it."

"Reservation people need to be more aware of the time. We had to wait 45 minutes past our reservation time. I returned to the front desk on 3 occassions to find out if there was a problem or not, no problem just be a minute. One member of our party had to leave because the excess se had to wait was going to make him lat efor an airplane.
Other people came right in and went to a table or others were not waiting as long. Waitress was excellent, good personality, helpful on the menu items. Food arrived in good order and was at the right temp's. wine list was good .

"Was excited to try Mastro's as it had been recommended by many Chicagoans. Food was excellent, but the service was rushed and terrible. Halfway through the dessert while I was putting the fork in my mouth, the waiter came to ask if we wanted coffee or tea. As soon as I nodded no, he slid the bill on the table without us asking for it. I would expect this at a diner that lives on table turnover, but I am spending hundreds of dollars at what is considered one of the best steakhouses in Chicago. The waiter was disturbed when we told him we were offended, and then scurried away. Two minutes later, a manager came over and said that in his entire career he has always seen waiters bring the bill to table unprompted. No apology."

"Besides that they were running behind seating people and we waited an additional 30 mins to sit even though we had a reservation, the food was incredible. The filet was like butter, melted in my mouth. They have a great wine list. Pricey but definitely worth the money for the quality cuts of meat.

"I had an amazing time at Mastro's in chicago. It was jam packed on saturday night with a great live band in the bar. It is defintely not feeling the effects of the economy. My only gripe was there was no where to sit in the bar while we waited 25 minutes for our table. The service was top notch, and the drink I ordered was the fleur de bleu. stolichnaya blueberry vodka, muddled blueberries, and elderflower liquer. DELICIOUS!!!!!! My friends and I ordered the filet mignon which is served on 400 degree plates while seared in clarified butter. We shared the asparagus, green beans, and sweet potato fries which was enough for 6 people! The coffee was the best cup of coffee ive ever had at a restaurant. I will be back!!!"

"One of a few steakhouses I visited ony Chicago trip. Food was great porterhouse steals the show. Unbelievably dark!! We needed flashlights to order. Staff knew this because they all had one. Pricey, but not disappointed. Went with a group of 9 . Could see myself going back with wife. I own a resturant and this place was well managed."

"It was my birthday, I really enjoyed myself, the food was great, the waitstaff were very nice , we didn't have to wait at all to be seated or for our dinner, and of course they surprised me with a nice piece of cake, it was so moist and fresh.
