"I like the way the restaurant looked and the food was good. The best part of the meal was the cotton candy! It was huge! On to the bad, we went here for a late lunch and were seated promptly- it wasn't very busy. We sat around for 15 minutes maybe more, thought about leaving but the hostess came over after she noticed we still had our menus and no water. A few mintues later, a fellow came over to take our orders- he wasn't too attentive which was understandable since he was also the bartender. But, seriously, the bartender shouldn't have to work a full bar and serve a table. What's with the 'support' staff? We sat right by the open kitchen with the counter and there were alot of 'support' sitting around-maybe get us our water?"

"We finally made a trip from the burbs to the Uptown Area and settled on the Uptown Cafeteria for an early dinner. Early is not the word as we had made reservations for 5p, but ended up arriving at 4pm! Not a problem! We were greeted with a smile and promptly seated. We had a great server who brought out our drinks and took our appetizer order. Once the drinks were delivered he took our dinner order and we were all set. Dinner was great! Great presentation, portions, etc.

Overall a great experience!!"

"I came here for my birthday. Food was okay, service was super slow especially when the restaurant was super Slow. Another thing to add was that we ordered a couple drinks and were given the wrong drinks. But on the plus side, I loved the decor, loved the rooftop bar, and I got cotton candy for my birthday. So if you're just looking for a cute place to go for lunch or drinks with friends, this may be your spot."

"This place is FUN FUN FUN ! If you are looking for a quiet, romantic, luxurious place, go elsewhere. But if you want a great, low-key place for some serious comfort food (which will likely require you to spend many hours at the gym to work off the calorie burden), a good variety of cocktails and beers, and a festive atmosphere, then step right up. I brought 4 out of towners here to escape the doldrums of a sterile business meeting because I knew we could kick back, relax, and eat well, all for a pretty decent price. We didn't anticipate that it would also be "trivia night" to boot. Definitely louder than usual and spirited, but not crazy or unpleasant at all. Come here if you want an easy night out, good food, and some consistent fun !"

"Nice place. Not overly crowded. Kind of diner like with the food. Shrimp and Grits for me. It was a special occasion so they did a very nice job of taking care of us. I called ahead to make sure that a bottle of champagne was there for us at the time of our arrival."

"I had seen a newspaper snippet suggesting Uptown Cafeteria for Happy Hour and have yet to see what specials they serve then, however dinner was very good. We shared the spicy sweet chicken wing appetizers, and I had the BBQ Brisket with Tater Tots (my favorite side). My date had the steak with steak fries - he loved the steak but was not a fan of the spears. NOt the CAfeteria's fault, just not his preference! We didn't have enough room for dessert and their breakfast menu, though limited, looked yummy. I am looking forward to going there again - for Happy Hour AND breakfast!!"

"Love the chilaquiles here. They could use a side of salsa but otherwise they're delicious. My dad had the crab cakes (which is actually an appetizer) for his meal and they were great. You get 5 which is more than enough for a meal. I do wish they offered the regular lunch menu in addition to the brunch menu on Sunday (the brunch menu ends at 3, kind of late)."

"ambience = diner. food = a step above diner. service = no where near a diner: slow, slow, slow. slow to seat us (left us standing next to a table that needed to be wiped down but no one ever came to wipe it down and others were seated so we went back to the host stand). slow to receive our menus, our coffee, the creamer, have our order taken, and get our food. so slow receiving the food, in fact, that the hollandaise (sp?) sauce on my eggs benedict had solidified by the time i received it. my expectations really aren't that high, i swear, but when i'm paying $13 for an eggs benedict i expect it to arrive fairly warm. on the plus side, the servers were very polite but they seemed completely oblivious to the fact that they were slow."

"Had a great night with friends with a corner window table over looking Lake Street - was a great spot to sit and watch outside! GREAT food and a fun atmosphere for a gathering of friends. Went upstairs to see Comedy Sportz and then came back to the restuarant for wonderful desserts! Our waitress even remembered us and stopped to chat! GREAT NIGHT!"

"Had Brunch on Sunday and everything was great! Bloody Mary bar is amazing----lots of extras---cheese, bacon, in addition to the usual offerings. Very busy place, even at 12:30. A bit of a wait for table to accomodate 6, even though I had a reservation and we arrived just after our appointed time. Food was slow coming as well, but worth the wait.
Always a facinating clientele to observe during the waits. Kids loved the huge pancakes,
chocolate milk was hand-mixed and a little weak, so they added more syrup and is was great. Definately a return visit worthy place!"

"Food was really great, especially considering people in our group would be considered as having "picky appetites" and "dietary restrictions". Comfortable atmosphere for families and restaurant was clean and inviting.

I dine out alot and uptown cafeteria is becoming one of those places you can be comfortable bringing a picky eater, friends from out of town, family, or even on date night and know that you're getting good quality for your money and a great atmosphere. One of the few gems in the Hennepin and Lake area."

"The Uptown Cafeteria is great on concept and very poor on food. It was my second time eating at the Uptown Cafeteria. This past time, I ordered the all you can eat fish fry.
The fish came dark brown and very heavy battered. I asked the service person if my fish my be over done, she respond no that is the way it always looks golden brown. The meal was just horrible, over done fish, over battered and over fries, greasy friends and not much else."

"The ad said that kids eat free with each adult entrée for the brunch special- when I got home I realized that we were charged. Lame. Then, when the waitress in our section was cleaning another table, she had to bend over slightly and her tiny "skirt" came up so my husband and small children got to see her anatomy.... A lady at another table actually said, " gross!" I get that this is a foodie place for hipsters and it has a bar- but dont advertise to take your kids there if you aren't going to make your servers wear any pants. Oh- the food was awesome."

"Very enjoyable comfortable place in the heart of uptown. All the waitstaff are friendly and knowledgeable. The kitschy decor is a part of the whole idea but can get a little overwhelming...In nice weather go ahead and take off early some afternoon and hang out on the rooftop!"

"Really enjoyed all of the food and beverage options here. Apetizers recommended were fantastic. I had chicken and waffles which were above average. Love the comfort food theme and whole vibe of this place. Only con was rather tight booth seating."
