From Domaine Restaurant's Tim Goodell comes Public Kitchen & Bar, new at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, featuring a menu of eclectic American fare. The landmark hotel's reimagined dining hall offers locals and travelers alike a stunning setting reminiscent of a stylish and welcoming private home. A loft-inspired design provides a lighter, brighter space highlighted by black walnut butcher block tables, redesigned 1960s library chairs and diamond-tufted banquettes. At the room's center, a large, three-sided, marble topped bar offers creative cocktails, a moderately priced bottle wine list, beers by draft and bottle and an assortment of cured meats and cheeses.
"It has been years since we had dinner at the Roosevelt. I heard the Public Kitchen was getting good reviews, so I decided to treat my wife for her birthday. The place was hoping! We arrived about 7:00 and the pool party was just leaving, and when we made our way inside, we found a huge fund raising event. People everywhere and the sound level was a little intense. We entered the Public Kitchen and Bar and found a little haven of calm and style. The ambiance is smooth and comforting, the service is good and the food is better. I couldn't have asked for a better place to treat my wife for her birthday."

"The Sunday Brunch Buffet was loaded with unique and very tasty items, not at all the usual steam table bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs. The server was charming, and attentive without being a nuisance. We will be back."

"Great food. Place wasn't even that busy yet our server would disappear for long long periods of time. Took us forever to get her to come over and just take our order to begin with."

"It is all about the food. Chef Goodell has a penchant for eclectic offerings. That said, finding beef tartare (my selection) in an "American Food" themed restaurant would seem a bit conventional to some, but this contradition seemed to work here. Noticeable was the provencal infusion within the design of the restaurant, consistent with Aubergine and his culinary routes. This fact supports my above statement. Unfortuantely, the dinner crowd was a bit sparse, at 5:30 PM on a weekday. The overwelming attention of staff, was positive though, as more of the dinner crowd started to fill in. For foodies, I give it a plus. I am a big fan of Red Pearl, another Domaine Group casual "gem". I will absolutely return and recommend the Public to all."

"Not impressed. The meatballs we ordered were the best part of the meal (we also ordered crab cakes (only one cake was provided) and bread along with roasted chicken. The chicken was tough, and I felt it had been cooked too long."

"Everyone in my party enjoyed their dishes. We shared an outstanding mushroom tart as an appetizer and, between us, had salmon, shepherd's pie and the burger. All were delicious. My only complaint was the noise. When the restaurant became more crowded, the noise level was such that it was hard to hear the people across the table."

"First time eating at the restaurant and reviews I had read were mixed, so expectations weren't super high. Surprisingly pleased with the food. From the beer and wine 4 of us ordered through the appetizers and the main course (sorry, no dessert ordered), the food was all given a thumbs up. My husband raved about the calamari, and this after his disappointment over it not being fried the way he likes it (I don't eat the stuff), the pate was given a thumbs up by all (although one of us thought the jam it was in too much), and the burrata yummy (some might say too salty, but I like salt). My main dish of steak frites just good, not spectacular. Guys loved their hamburgers. FYI - very loud and skews young but such an awesome landmark."

"Public Kitchen has had some very good reviews, so it's possible we were there on an off night, but the evening we were there (Valentine's day, 2013) the food was nothing more than average. On the plus side, the service was good, and the ambiance of the room was fine as well.
It IS a good place for a pre theater dinner; they seem to be set up to get the pre-theater crowd in and out in time for the Los Angeles 8:00 curtain.
One thing that we thought was really weird: the restaurant emailed demanding a copy of a driver's license matching the credit card used to hold the reservation. OK, we understand that Valentine's day is a big day for a restaurant, but a CDL? No way!"
